Infanta Sofia's Fashion and Style Part 1: April 2025 -

Sofia during today's National Day celebrations:

OMG, that is awful. Did she confuse the event with a school graduation? That poncho-looking coat looks terrible and, if we are discussing her fashion style I would have expected this moment for her to move that hair back so it won't cover two thirds of her face at all times.

It looks bad and she needs a stylist to help on her outwear decision making as she gets ready to join the social life representing the king and queen at other events.

Re the polka dots dress under her graduation poncho, looks nice for any other event but this one. I would have preferred Sofia to look like her mom's and use a more elegant suit dress choice instead of a dress you will use to go out to a friend's party.
On that second picture it looks like three women going to three separate events although Leonor and Letizia are more matchy while Sofia seems she joined the walk at the last minute with the dress she was on.

And again, her hair needs to be off her face at some point in her life.

Her hair is very much the current style for young woman her age. Maybe because I have kids close in age to her, it looks fine to me. My daughter looked at the pictures and said, “her hair is perfect” (high praise from someone who is hair obsessed). So she definitely wins points among her contemporaries.

The polka dot dress is nice. I wonder if she borrowed the cape from her mom- it looks very Letizia.

I don't like any part of this outfit, neither the cape nor the dress nor the shoes look very flattering on Sofia. She can do better than that.

The polka dot dress is age appropriate for such an event. Now if she was going out for the night with friends to go dancing or such, no. But to a more formal day occasion yes when needed. Not granny at all.

The poncho on the other hand is horrid.

(...)
And why the poncho coat? She could have grabbed any coat from Letizia's closet and not look like a walking tent. Better luck next time.

The black-and-white dress is great on her. The poncho/overcoat/whatever it is, is the opposite of that.
How would anything from her mother’s wardrobe have possibly fit her?

I was thinking of a coat, if she needed one I bet there had to be one that can open in the front and still look stylish. If she was cold she could have also used the traditional Spanish mantón de Manila / the Manila Shawl and look absolutely spectacular. I'm sure her mom and grandmother have spares she could borrow. Ages ago King Juan Carlos presented then Prince Charles the most spectacular Spanish Shawl I've ever seen as a gift for Camilla.

A Spanish manton would be better than that poncho

Sure, anything would have looked better than the Franco-approved black thing. But Letizia is very roughly about half a dozen sizes smaller than her daughter. Absolutely nothing tailored from her wardrobe, including an unbuttoned coat, is going to fit — and that might be part of the problem for Sofía. Anything she wants to wear, she has to come up with herself. She’s not a princess who has the luxury of experimenting and browsing with her mother’s vast stylish wardrobe. So we wait to see if she finds her fashion feet — or does something more important.

I’m not a fan of the enormous poncho/coat. It swallows her.

The polka dot dress is cute and fits nicely.
This is absolutely the worst outfit yet that I have seen on Sofia.

(...) I’m pretty sure she’s dressing herself at this point. (She is both a bit too old and too young to have someone else choosing her clothes.) So she is wearing what she wants, presumably, and as long as it loosely fits (ha) the occasion, that’s still freedom of expression. Unlike her mother and sister, she doesn’t have to be dressed to please all of us.

Plus, she looked fine in the dress. It’s just the coat that should be sentenced somewhere.

Thanks - the altered length makes the dress look even worse. Very matronly the combo with the cape.
Is my though also. She should keep the length.
But maybe her age does not wear midi length.
Sofia is tall. But she is not the only tall in the world. Catherine Amalia and her mum as well as Queen Mathilde and Princess of Wales are tall also but they managed to get dressed nicely. So Sofia shouldn't have issues to find proper clothes, models are very tall also.
Just her choices are still not very successfuls, at least up to now.

The drab hairstyle on Sofia and the dark colours on National Day?

I was also displeased seeing Sofia's outfit but I'll give her more time. She's still young and is finding her own style.

Anything that is tailored to Letizias body will not fit either daughter. But she often wears stuff off the rack that is two sizes too big, eg the Hugo Boss suits, therefore there certainly are clothes that can be worn by the daughters, we've seen them sharing dresses in the past.
But yes, Sofia has to build her own wardrobe as the majority of outfits cannot and should not be shared.

I don't know why this is considered such a bad outfit. That cape is exactly the kind of cape that Maxima and Amalia wear all the time. The dress looks very nice as a shorter version.

She is just 18 years old in a very strange role, a student abroad in sneakers and jeans one day and at a super formal military event the next day...She is not the heiress either so finding out what to wear is not easy for her, she probabaly does not have the help that someone like Princess Amalia and Princess Elisabeth probably has, the latter who also wears alot of couture outfits, whilst Sofia is usually showing up in of the rack...

Ah, but several of these ladies made (and occasionally still make) plenty of fashion mistakes, especially when they were new to royal dressing.
Sofia is only 18, and she’s quite tall, which makes it hard for her to choose completely suitable outfits. Or, perhaps, she’s the future Laurentien! Until then, I intend to recall my mother’s advice: if you can’t say something nice…
As for her hair, she has a fabulous head of it. She should enjoy some ‘teenage privilege’ while she can.

It is a very expensive outfit (though a fail IMO) as it is a fully Carolina Herrera, as per Royal Fashionbdaily IG

Agree - I was not expecting it to be by Carolina Herrera - I anticipated we will see the black cape/coat on her mother at some stage.

From what I have seen Infanta Sofia has shown in precious outings that she does have style, it is mostly seen in her more casual wear.

To me the outfit worn on National Day is not bad but somewhat meh without the coat, and meh and unflattering (but not egregiously so) with the cape. The look with the cape sticks out because I don't see others wearing a outer garment, so to me a lesson learned could be to select an outfit that is more weather appropriate.

I suspect that Sofia erred on the side of caution with the dress she selected for National Day and "suppressed" her personal style, or alternatively, she is still developing her style for these types of events, or another alternative is that, with Sofia being away in school, the outfit was selected by someone else.

In general, I tend not to like the shoes Sofia wears, but I think that her shoe choices are due to her height, either she is self-conscious, and/or does not want to tower over her other relatives (save her father), and the people she interacts with.

Like others, I think an improvement can be made with her hair. Full updos are not necessary, but styles where her hair is off her face, and perhaps a slight side part.
