Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie plan special visits to various regions of the country in 2026 and 2027 it was announced today:

Joyful Entries and National Day Eve Celebrations 2026/2027

In his Christmas address, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke announced the organization of a series of five Joyful Entries across the different regions of the country, reflecting his commitment to continuing direct engagement with the public, in keeping with the spirit of the Trounwiessel and the Feierlech Tour on October 3 and 4, 2025.

The Joyful Entries 2026-2027Traditionally associated with a new dynastic stage, the Joyful Entries provide opportunities for meeting, exchanging ideas, and fostering closer ties between Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess and the citizens, in the presence of local authorities and key figures in the country.

For 2026, Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess will visit the following municipalities:

April 24: Esch-sur-Alzette

July 10: Troisvierges

October 2: Wormeldange

The series will continue in 2027. The following municipalities will be visited (dates to be confirmed):
BeckerichMersch

The visited towns and municipalities coordinate the activities and may partner with local and neighboring entities to give the event a regional dimension. Detailed visit programs will be released as they are finalized.

Visits on the Eve of National Day

Every year, on the day before June 23, Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess visit a different town in the country to share the celebrations with the local population.

In this context, the next two visits have been scheduled:

June 22, 2026: Differdange;

June 22, 2027: Ettelbruck.

These annual visits on the eve of National Day are organized on a rotating basis among the municipalities and regions of the country.

The celebration of National Day remains true to tradition, notably with the unmissable events in Luxembourg City on the evening of June 22, followed by the official ceremonies on National Day, June 23.

Lovely tradition to continue but I do wonder why they cannot make 5 such visits in 2026 but instead chose to spread it out over two calendar years.

The medieval tradition comes from the Southern Netherlands, namely the old Counts of Hainaut, Flanders and the Dukes of Brabant, later also done by their successors the Valois Dukes of Burgundy and later the Habsburgs and in all their territories in the Low Countries. The most famous one perhaps beign Charles V's entry into Ghent.

The Belgian King and Queen also did these Joyful Entries of the various provinces after their marriage and after the King's installation in 2013.

The term "joyful entry" refers, in the Middle Ages and under the Ancien Régime, to a ceremony during which a sovereign appeared in major cities to present himself to the population after his accession to the throne. Although the term is sometimes used by chroniclers to refer to French or even Spanish royal entries, it most often relates to the ceremonies in the territories that formed the Burgundian Netherlands: the Duchy of Brabant and Limburg, the County of Hainaut, Flanders, Artois, Holland, or Zeeland…

In Luxembourg it was first done by Grand Duke Adolphe in 1891.

I also think it is a Lovely tradition but like @Somebody i wonder why they will spread that out over 2 years. After all Luxembourg is not so big and i guess there are not so many regions to visit, like for example Belgium

I'm surprised that they would schedule an event on July 10. Usually, the Luxembourg royal family spends the months of July and August at their property in the French town of Cabasson. Does Henri still own the holiday home or has ownership transferred to Guillaume?

I'm not so sure how they defined regions because Luxembourg has 2 regions (Oesling in the north and Guttland in the south) and 12 cantons. So, how they landed at 5 visits isn't clear to me (other than roughly south(west) - north - (south)east - west - middle). They also didn't always pick the largest towns in the areas.
