It should appear a short description in all websites

It doesn’t. CBC is another example that apparently doesn’t provide this feature.

Prior to the software upgrade, there was an option to display search results in order from oldest to newest posts. Is there any means to do that now?

It works when you choose the "Advanced Search" option instead of the basic "Search" option.
There you can choose between the "Newer than" and "Older than" option and the "Relevance" and "Date" option. The "Date" option is the one you need.

Can anyone advise how we close our TRF accounts? I have not been able to find any option to do so on my account settings page.

That's impossible - and undesirable as ongoing discussions would be impacted. An account can be "closed" on request (by sending a request to the admin & mod team) the result of which is that it can no longer be used by the member; but the account will not be deleted with all of its content.

How does one get rid of Read Alerts?

All Alerts are marked as Read. However, I cannot delete them. There is no Delete button. How can they be omitted?

I don't think alerts that you previously received can be deleted (what is the reason you'd like them deleted?) but you can avoid receiving them in the future: go to Your account and select Preferences: there you can indicate which alerts you want to receive and which you don't want to receive.

Clicking on 'Mark read' ensures that the number that shows up at the topic next to the bell are the number of new alerts and don't include previous alerts.

The alerts are marked Mark read. Will they be omitted if a new alert arrives?
I went to my Account. I went to Preferences and all alerts are unchecked.
Please delete Alerts marked read at the topic next to the bell.
Long ago the same situation occurred and the account went haywire.

Can you share a screen shot of your problem - just to make sure we fully understand?

In theory it is not even needed to use 'mark read' because as soon as you click on the bell, it will recognize that automatically. And no, all previous alerts are still in the system but normally don't do any harm, so I'm trying to make sure we understand your concern.
