General News & Information for King Harald V and Queen Sonja: 2006 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I think King Harald and Queen Sonja probably wanted to get away for a few weeks from the pressure the Norwegian royal family is currently under. They're also getting on in years and deserve a few days of rest.

As expected Harald goes on hunting trips (usually somewhere in UK) in January and then away with Sonja and friends to warmer weather in February or March.

At least they seems to have shifted out traveling to the other side of the world, to Canary Islands instead nowdays…. Not as exotic but at least a shorter route back home should an emergency situation occur again..

I don’t think it has anything to do with the current pressure. If anything, they might have considered staying this time.

As H-R explained, each year they go on holiday to a warmer location at this time of year.

Don't Alexia de Grecia and Carlos Morales live in the Canary Islands? I wonder if they are on friendly terms.

They have been living on the island of Lanzarote for many years but sold the house in 2024 according to this article. They also have a residence in Barcelona.

The Palace shared a joint portrait to congratulate King Harald on his 89th birthday today, February 21:

Happy birthday to His Majesty King Harald! 🇳🇴

Today the King turns 89 – we congratulate him and wish him a wonderful celebration 🎂

The photo of the King with Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Ingrid Alexandra was taken earlier this winter in connection with the celebration of the Princess's birthday.

Such a lovely 3 generations picture!

When Ingrid ascends the throne it will be the first time the throne doesn’t pass to the youngest child… (in the current dynasty)

But thanks to Marius, every monarch except Olav will still have grown up as a "little sibling".

Am I the only one who didn’t like the picture? There’s an awkwardness to it in color and positioning and angles and… everything. Their other three-gen pictures have (understandably) been much nicer.
