I was saddened not to see a new family photo this year for Mothering Sunday but given the vicious online scrutiny following last years one I understand the reasons.

I doubt that we'll see a family photo on Mothering Sunday in the future. The OTT response to the photo by the press and social media effectively ended that opportunity.

I can't help thinking about what the Wales Family were going through at that time behind the scenes and then having to deal with the vicious online trolling which was utterly shameful!

Totally agree - the picture in 2024 was lovely and never deserved the backlash it received. The press and online posters were nit picking.

I have fingers crossed in future years we can have pictures again or maybe paintings the kids have drawn for their mum etc

"'I have got my son here too so I am on best behaviour but 43 years since this has happened and I want George to experience a night out in a big competition, those memories are really important to create and bringing him away is important.
'I am open to who they support, I am bias but they come to games with Villa so it will likely be Villa, but I have left the other two at home probably watching on TV. We will see who they support.' "
A good memory with his oldest.

Now with Charles on a State Visit in Italy, William and George in Paris, does this mean Harry is in charge (he happens to be in London today) ;) just a joke

Apparently the Wales’s were on their fourth holiday this year in France since the 3rd of April 🫠

Yes they were skiing in Courchevel last week, Paris Match has pictures. Is that 4?

New Year - skiing with Middleton family
Feb half term - Mustique
Easter break - skiing in Courchevel

I stand corrected I though this was their fourth holiday in 4 months

They've gone on holiday every school break - tbf that is what most of the other families at the school the children go to will be doing.
Though I'd never moan if they decided to do more official travel as well.

I just love that the people always defend the Wales’s lack of working on the idea of they are focusing on the children and giving them a normal family life, I would ask in what world a normal family take 3-4 holidays abroad in 4 months 🫠
But it's not 4, is it? You still keep mentioning 4, even in your "correction". It's 3. Three. Trois.

Other than Mustique, the others were in Europe. I guess being an Aussie, I see travel to France and other European countries like going on a trip to another Aussie state, like Queensland or Tasmania. Going between Paris and London is half the distance between Adelaide and Melbourne; we consider Adelaide to Melbourne as a short road trip!

Considering what 2024 has been like for the Wales', I am not surprised the family is making up for lost time

After the year they had last year, where they couldn't go anywhere at all, I would never begrudge them taking family trips during the children's breaks. It probably feels very reassuring to the kids that they are able to do this again.

One of the holidays was for Carole's 70th birthday celebrations. I don't have an issue with their holidays as they are never going to work when the children are off anyway. Yes I think they should and could work more in the term time (in a normal year obviously last year/this year was an exception) when the children are in school but that still wouldn't stop them going on holidays in the school breaks.

Another question would be why this kind of question is always raised only to the Wales family in this forums (a forum covering every royal family including the defunct one) but not to other royal families.

Could William (and Catherine) do more? Sure, of course. But sometimes I think for some reason people (royal watchers) always put them in higher standard than the other royal families which i think is a bit unfair.

But when I mention it I compare it to other working royals in the same family, I just went through this in another fourm, but the 77 years old queen consort while supporting her husband through cancer is doing more engagements than the kings own son who is in his 40’s!

The 4th child of the previous monarch and his wife “Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh” doing more engagements than the future king?
And am not mentioning the 70+ Princess Royal who is on another league of her own!
Come to think of it comparing the Wales’s to other crown princes/sses in their own age group won’t be in their favor also!

We even have a pretty similar situation with the crown prince of Norway who also have a wife who is suffering through a major health issues and he still do a lot of engagements and taking more responsibility from his increasingly ailing father!

Am afraid If Charles going to be remembered in history as the Environmentalist, William will be remembered as the Reluctant!
I am not sure about the reluctance, but going through his threads here I found:
- 1 commemoration, with his wife
- 1 day visit to Wales with his wife
- 2 football matches, including the one posted just above, which may have been private.
- 1 rugby match, with his wife
- 1 visit to a football association
- 2 meetings (one of Earthshot)
- 2 day visit to Estonia
- 3 Earthshot related events
- 16 other events (which includes one video)

We are at exactly day 100 of the year today, of which there were 29 days with public appearances. Except the visit to Estonia, a visit to Wales with his wife and two other visits these were mostly single-appearances, not day-visits with multiple events.
That means on average there were public events during two days of the week [the same period had 28 weekend days].

Genuine question, do you have the numbers for other royal houses to compare? Because I've seen comment by a Dutch royal watcher on twitter moaning about William-Alexander going to another holiday of the year while doing less than the UK's lazy Will. (I honestly doesn't follow other European Royal families closely, so i don't know how "busy" they actually are)

Once I made comparison of the number and found that no member of Japan Imperial Family could even compete with William's number during normal year (back when William's number was 200-something. I don't have the number now, I lost it with everything else in my broken hard drive), nor any of them ever do multiple engagements in different sides of the country a la Anne. But then again, I only counted based on what's being reported since i didn't know how to find any info about closed door meeting similar to William's foundation meeting which was reported in the Court Circular.

During Workshy Will era, I remember reading an old article (I think it was The Sun) which mentioned that Charles (and Diana) doing moderate number of engagements (the article basically comparing him with his sister's and parents' higher numbers) and Charles's number only pick up significantly post-divorce (whether it was because his marriage or that his kids were both in boarding school). But back then, that article made me think that maybe it will be similar with William (that his number will increase after his kids are in boarding school, not that he would divorcing Catherine for his number to pick up). I'll link the article if google can find it, (or maybe @Iluvbertie could kindly help with the tally :)) so we can compare apple to apple of two Princes of Wales with young children instead of comparing them while in different stage of life.

I agree though about William's reluctance. He always gives me the impression that if he could, he would abandon his position, prefering living an aristocrat life than being royal (or even king) . He surely doesn't seem as eager (ambitious) of becoming monarch as Fumihito, the Crown Prince of Japan for example :) . And with his comment about being royal with little 'r' instead of big 'R', I'm inclined to think that he plans to continue doing this way: big projects with less traditional public engagement (like the older generation royal have been doing) and more social media appearance (and I don't think recording social media message have ever counted as engagement). Would it be a correct move or not, time will tell.

It's a shame that Villa lost the away leg, but what a wonderful experience for George to go to a European away match.

It's the first time Villa have been in Europe since 1982. It's a big thing.

No issue with William taking George to the match. I'm quite envious - I'd love to be going to United's away match in Lyon tonight! But, yes, maybe William could do a bit more in the way of royal engagements, at least during term time.
