General News for the Wales Family 2: March 2024-

Imaging this is a belated celebration for Carole's 70th - reports suggest she(and we can presume mike) were already on the island prior to the Wales family arriving

At some stage I think Charles will have to enforce William and George to be on separate flights - unthinkable if something happened
 
They pay for their holidays themselves out of private funds (that includes money from the royal Duchies for Wales that would be Duchy of Cornwall)
But the police will pay for the protection officers travel, accommodation and expenses.
 
Given that they travelled by scheduled flights (which tbf is commendable in many ways) it would have been quite easy for William or Catherine to travel with Louis and maybe Charlotte on the Thursday (withdrawing him two days early from school as apparently they did with all the children) then the other to fly out on the Friday with George and maybe Charlotte who as older children should probably be in school as much as possible. British Airways flys a 10am flight on Thursday and Friday so its more than doable for them to have flown separately as
a) there are flights on two consecutive days so its not like flying separately would mean waiting days for another flight
b) they aren't using private jets which would mean paying double the cost, they are paying for seats on a commercial flight so only paying for what they use e.g two less seats one flight and two more on another
 
Don't forget their security detail - while the family itself might require the same number of seats, they might need to take additional security personnel if they would follow this arrangement.

Yes possibly but I think it likely would only be one or two extra seats either way and it is probably safer from them to travel separately anyway for pretty neutral in the end.

I would have been quite relaxed about William and George being on the same flight given the advances in air safety (current North American issues excepted!), but the thought of a potential King Harry is far too scary. so perhaps the time has come for George to travel separately from William.

A good effort - a little stilted but quite a credible Welsh accent 😁.
 
It's nice to hear William speaking Welsh. There's been a bit of grumbling about the fact that he hasn't really done so before. Apparently he's been using Duolingo :) .
 
Great to hear William speaking Welsh - I hope he is learning. He has certainly lacked much on language proficiency so far, his French is poor
 
I am sure it was phonetically spelt on on cards for him to read from .
The effort is great though and is endearing!
 
Apparently (according to newspaper reports) the whole family are learning, which is great. Important to keep these languages alive and in use and William using it helps this cause.

I wonder why Charles/Diana didn't encourage either boys earlier on this as we all knew William would be heir and with that given the PoW title
 
I am surprised too that he hadn't learned to speak Welsh sooner. Maybe he just doesn't have a knack for languages and put it off for as long as possible.

Charles appears to have had a knack for languages but his children seem to have taken their required classes and stopped afterwards. As I recall William studied Swahili at some point.
 
They were advertising for an assistant private secretary with a specific Wales remit and one of the desirable candidate qualities was being able to speak Welsh. Hopefully they found someone and William can use the language regularly, Welsh os a hard language and especially without regular opportunity to use it.

William, if I am not mistaken, is patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight. An expected but equally appreciated tweet in regards to the last of those great hero men that fought for our freedom.

I recall William attended the funeral of a veteran previously was it a WW2 connection? He may do the same privately if the family allow
