General News for the Wales Family 2: March 2024-

And they all travelled on the same flight. I appreciate that there aren't too many flights to Mustique but if, heaven forbid, anything had happened to that plane, we'd have been looking at King Harry and King Archie.
Why is this being allowed?

It shouldn't be difficult to arrange for George to travel with his mother & the two youngest with their father.

Agree. I don't know why HLM and now KC3 permit this.
Likely it is because twelve was the age when Charles and William began to fly separately.
Does anyone know if HLM and Charles flew together before his 12 th birthday?

Prince George will be 12 this year, let's see if there are any changes later.

I don’t think that this precaution (it’s not a rule nor protocol) is still necessary. Flights are way more safe than it used to be.

Thanks for this, I recall the 12 year old rule but it still does not make sense to me that the heir and heir's heir travel together. Did Charles and William travel a lot together? Perhaps we know more about their private travel than we did when William was a child.

I recall seeing magazine photos of the then Wales family with Charles, Diana and their sons arriving at Aberdeen Airport for Balmoral summer holidays starting when William was a toddler until he was an older pre-teen.
Charles and William did appear to travel together until the latter was 12.

I think Charles was usually at home when his parents went anywhere by plane (Anne, too). Andrew and Edward seemed to have been taken more places at a younger age.

Tell it to the Swedes. Or some others, additionally. It's true; car travel is far more dangerous. It's also true it only takes one incident.

But I'm pretty sure we will start seeing George solo after the summer (and 12 may have something to do the airlines' "unaccompanied minor" guidelines, though of course he wouldn't be unaccompanied). If not, something has changed.

Personally I’m not convinced it will change when George turns 12. William tends to do things his own way. I agree that flying has gotten safer, but it still seems like a sensible precaution to me. But i’d be more worried about them flying in helicopters together which they seem to do quite frequently.

I'm not sure William is so stubborn and idiosyncratic that he's going to insist on potentially putting his brother on the throne vs. having his nearly-teenage child ferried around by other people.

(He presumably knows why he is named William.)

I think William and George should stop traveling together at a certain point, and that will probably be when George turns 12. But it is very imprudent for the whole family to travel together by helicopter, this should not happen.

Are there commercial flights to Mustique? If its only private planes then I understand why you wouldn't use 2 private planes for environmental issues.

The article says they took a commercial flight from London to St Lucia and then a private plane to Mustique. No idea if there are commercial flights to Mustique, maybe not...

Do the royals pay for their vacations out of their own private accounts? I know they receive funds from their duchies for living expenses.Just wondering for security protection because more things need to be put in place and planned ahead.

Members of royal families pay for their vacation through private funds. Their private funds do include monies received from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall respectively for the King and the Prince of Wales.
