General News and Information for the Norwegian Royal Family: 2003 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
About the unseen photo,
"Se og Hør has checked the metadata on the image. According to them, the photo was taken on 8 January 2019.
Communications adviser at the Castle, Sara Svanemyr, tells Se og Hør that "the new official photo was taken in 2023".

Stunning photo but it’s terrible of the Norwegian Royal Court to claim it was taken in 2023 when it was clearly not…

Everything can be checked nowdays…

It is taken by the same photographer who took Sverre Magnus photos for his 18th birthday in 2023 who the court has not published photos by before, the dress also has the same pattern as the coronation outfit made by the same designer also in 2023. I dont understand about metadata but I do not think the court would lie when asked specifcally about it. Mette Marit also had much shorter hair in the start of 2019. Imo it is a recent photo.

At a garden party in 2016, King Harald V delivered a much-loved speech about the diversity and unity of Norwegians. One particularly renowned line from that speech (readers of this forum may recognize it from poster Royal Norway's signature) was:

"Norwegians are girls who love girls, boys who love boys, and girls and boys who love each other."

Reacting to recent events, the season premier of the "Nytt for Nytt" program spoofed the 2016 garden party speech by dubbing over footage of that line with:

"Norwegians are boys who hit girls they love, take cocaine, and go off to party in Italy. And Norwegians are boys and girls who sell the image rights to their wedding to the British tabloid press and hide their wedding dress with a big, white sheet."

(Between this and VG's "fairy tale (based on a true story)", it seems the upside of the monarchy's troubles is that Norwegian comedy is having a brilliant time.)

Where can I find information about King Harald's 18th birthday celebrations?

King Harald braved the pouring rain and took his children, grandchildren (minus Maud Behn) - and Marit Tjessem to the Oslo Opera House to watch "The Nutcracker" .

Also present was Prince Sverre's girlfriend, Amalie Giæver MacLeod.

And the royal family continues to appear publicly with Durek....:(
The time when they could choose Märtha but not Durek has unfortunately passed.

They had the chance laid bare in front of their eyes before the wedding and we all expected them to take it - but they did not, as it was clearly more important to not cause any hurted feelings for Märtha Louise than to protect the institution… Now they cannot pretend that he does not exist when they have already opened the palace doors right in front of his nose and told told him ”welcome inside”

Now they have to live with the consequences of their own (non)actions

Exactly. In fact, they will now only have the opportunity to move away from Durek when Haakon is king, and even then I doubt that will happen. The lack of a sense of state in this family is striking.

It’s impossible to know today what will happen after King Harald and Queen Sonja has moved in at the Royal Mausoleum…. Death of the closest family members is a life-changing event that can put things in perspective for those who are left behind

However Haakon will inherit ”the other problem” as well wich for his reign is potentially more dangerous as it affects the family he has built for himself… So i don’t think a change of monarch will see the problems go away unfortunately

Is Sverre wearing a sweater from ML and Durek's brand?
My first thought was no because the logo looked different than photos from Martha-Louise's wedding weekend but I went to her website and it does look like one of hers. I will post pictures soon. Presumably the mods will move this comment if it is suited for one of the fashion threads.

ETA: Unless something happened recently, Durek does not have an interest in Hést but Martha-Louise has partners, link.

…wait, didn’t Harald say he was going to quit traveling abroad? So…what’s this and more importantly, where is this?

He has to my knowledge never said that… It was rather a public expectation that he shouldn’t travel to the other side of the world…

Some discrepancy in the royal calendar. On Feb 28. Haakon is listed for two events at once.

The Royal Court released the annual report for 2024 today, April 24 - with a very lovely photo on the cover and many photos inside:

The Royal Court released the annual report for 2024 today, April 24 - with a very lovely photo on the cover and many photos inside:

The press release reads a bit more personally than usual:

[...] The royal program governs the activities of the Royal Court, and changes in the life situation of the members of the Royal House affect the Court’s activity. Changes in society for others also play a part. Among other things, this involves changed security requirements as the result of a changed threat situation, new laws and regulations, guidelines and reporting requirements. Altered climactic conditions affect how the parks must be managed. We continuously work with a developed and modern court that can deliver in changing operating conditions, expectations and requirements – inter alia, through more efficient resource usage.

The King is a head of state, and the King is a husband, father and grandfather. A life’s work – like life itself – consists of many phases. Joy and challenges come and go through a long life and long vocation. 2024 was a year that brought both both joy and challenges to the Royal House and the Royal Court. [...]

The number of events listed for each royal in the calendar for 2024:

Crown Prince Haakon: 157 (including 41 as regent)
King Harald V: 103
Crown Princess Mette-Marit: 57
Queen Sonja: 54
Princess Astrid, Mrs. Ferner: 13
Princess Ingrid Alexandra: 7
Prince Sverre Magnus: 5
Princess Märtha Louise: 0

They say it is 743 events together and that all audiences and meetings are not listed, so the events in the report is a selection, certainly for Harald and Haakon.

I like the stories of the four employees they interviewed that had worked there for so many years, especially the man who worked there for 70 years and was King Olavs valet.

They also say the have reduced the staff from 150 to 140 to allow for the price increase in many sectors.

They need to improve the layout, its rather dull and old fashioned, and some more unseen photos would have been nice.

They say also a new website will be launched in 2025.

Thank you for that clarification and additional information! (I didn't read the report yet.)

That is somewhat concerning as the current website is already quite attractive and informative if you ask me. While more content would always be welcome, I hope the "new website" won't be an inferior product, as far too many relaunches of royal websites have been.

I love this information. And I can't wait to see the new NRF website.
Is there a planned launch date for the new website?

The website is fine, they could certainly add more to it, both photos and information about the royal collections, but they could rather use their energy on social media where they are lagging behind other courts alot.

No date is given for the launch, just 2025, I hope they have some new portraits then, except the CP couple the other ones are quite old now.

As earlier anounced Mette-Marit and Sverre Magnus will watch the semifinale in Europe League between Bodø Glimt and Tottenham. They have now also been invited and accepted to visit Stjernelagets training three hours before the game starts. From the Norwegian Football Association (NFF), football president Lise Klaveness and general secretary Karl-Petter Løken will participate. From the European football association UEFA, president Aleksander Ceferin, general secretary Theodore Theodoridis and deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti will meet. Bodø/Glimt will represenred Ørjan Berg.

Stjernelag in Bodø/Glimt is a football team for girls and boys aged 6 to 15, who do not fit into regular football teams, or who have a disability and want an adapted offer. For Stjernelag, the focus is on the social aspect, the feeling of mastery and the joy of playing sports is very central. Included in the offer are players with developmental disabilities, hidden disabilities, physical disabilities, Cerebral Palsy/acquired brain damage, blind/low vision, deaf/hard of hearing and autism spectrum disorder.
