General News about King Carl Gustaf & Queen Silvia Part 2: January 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.

Expressen and Aftonbladet writes that Queen Silvia will be a guest on an episode of the Swedish equivalent of "This is your life" to pay tribute to drag show artist and designer Christer Lindarw who's impersonated her many times through the years. The Royal family's embrace of Christer and his show group After Dark helped popularise drag during the 70s and 80s and was seen as a sign of support for the gay equality movement.
The Queen is seen wearing a yellow Dior gown of which Christer had made a copy that he wore on the first night they met in 1977 and the Cut steel tiara. After holding a short speach the Queen handed Christer a rose with the words "From one queen to another".
The episode will air on TV4 on May 31

The show aired tonight and was a lovely and moving celebration of the life of the legendary Christer Lindarw. Expressen writes that very few knew about the Queen's participation, but that their reporter Benjamin Andrée was told and invited to cover the recording of the show. He can reveal that Queen Silvia hid in the theatre's kitchen for a few hours before going on stage and that although initially only invited to record a video message she insisted on coming to the theatre to celebrate Christer in person.

They were at the concert itself? The orchestra does not seem dressed for it so I wondered if it was a rehearsal perhaps?

Whatever you think of the music, Rieu is always a very amiable man. He only played for the Dutch Queen [Beatrix] in 2010, at an event near Maastricht. IIRC at the time it was suggested a reason for the delay was that Beatrix, as a lover of classical music, did not like the kitch performances, though she reacted well during the concert itself.

Yes they attended the concert. I sat not far from them.

Andre’s trombonist wrote on his IG that the King and Queen visited the orchestra after the show during the ”aftersnacks” so i suppose that’s when the picture was taken.

I’ve been following the orchestra on Youtube for many years so it was nice to finally get a chance to see them live as well.
