In 2026, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will conduct an inquiry into the Crown Estate, including its property leases with members of the Royal Family.

The Public Accounts Committee “examines the value for money of Government projects, programmes and service delivery” on behalf of Parliament.

The Crown Estate is an independent commercial company that manages properties owned by the Crown (not by the King personally). Its profits are delivered to the Treasury, not to the Crown or the King.

On December 2, 2025, the PAC published a letter from the Crown Estate explaining its lease arrangements with members of the Royal Family and a letter from the Treasury setting out the governance arrangements for the Crown Estate. These letters are useful introductions for members of the public interested in these subjects.

Letter from the Chief Executive and Second Commissioner, The Crown Estate

Letter from the Permanent Secretary at HM Treasury

On the same day, the PAC announced its planned inquiry. Read the official announcement here:

Quote:

“The inquiry will be based on this correspondence, and on work from the National Audit Office updating its 2005 report, 'The Crown Estate - Property Leases with the Royal Family'.

It will also include wider work based on the next annual report and accounts for the Crown Estate, which is due to be published in June. [...]

“We now await the conclusions the NAO will draw from this information, and plan to hold an inquiry based on the resulting evidence base in the new year.””

No further details of the upcoming inquiry have been confirmed, despite speculation from media and members of the public.

Quoted from the now closed thread:

What i wonder about the Move of the Royal Mews. Will all the carriages brought to Windsor. Aus the Mews are also a Tourist attraction in London. And for Events like the the State Opening and Trooping they will be needed there
I assume the plan would be for the Mews at Buckingham Palace to become largely for tourists but still maintain capacity for motorcars as well as carriages, coaches and horses when needed.
I mean, apart from the daily post round and the transportation of Ambassadors to Buckingham Palace by carriage / coach the other times they are needed are annual events such as Trooping the Colour & The State Opening of Parliament. As long as they keep the ability to house horses and carriages for a short time it would be relatively easy for them to move whatever is needed from Windsor to Buckingham Palace.

At Bermondsey Abbey (Priory) on February 28, 1155 Prince Henry (Henry the Young King) was born. He was the son of King Henry Ii and Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.

This already happens to a certain extent: carriages that appear at Trooping the Colour [Saturday] then move to Windsor for Garter Day {Monday] and Royal Ascot week Tuesday to Saturday] , so moving in the opposite direction should present no logistical problems...

Intruder was caught at Kensington Palace. I assume they use the Wales' name as sort of click-bait since it's not specified to be at the Wales' apartement.

It's from the Sun, but Telegraph also reported it (basically just quoting the Sun).

The Daily Mail is reporting that Dumfries House will be able to host weddings in a new entertainment space as of July 2027.

The project 'will see a single-storey, 430m sq extension built 'seamlessly' onto the historic Robert Adam-designed house, replacing a marquee that had been previously used for weddings and receptions' and will be known as The King's Hall. The construction will use local materials, and original building techniques.

I hope the construction is done carefully and sympathetically, but this should be good news for the local area, which has been an unemployment blackspot for many years.

Mods, please feel free to move this if I'm not in the right thread :)

I have no concerns on design and construction in a manner congruent with and sympathetic to Dumfries House and the local environment, given the involvement of the King.
