:previous: The Church of England includes about 26 million people. And then there is the church of Scotland that is a separate identity within the Anglican community. So, it's at least 40% of the population not 1%.

Hmm, that was solely based on some of the posts that have been posted on here before, so that might be off. But regardless, it'd be nice if they have more lenient rules given that most of Meghan's close friends aren't from England.

I don’t understand why the Anglican church should break the rules on godparents, especially when this baby’s grandfather will one day be Defender of the Faith. Meghan chose to join the church, I’m sure she understands the rules.

That's not usually the way churches work, though. If you are a member of a church, the rules apply to you, even if you have friends who are not members. If that is indeed what the rules are in the Anglican Church, I think it would be appalling if those rules were bent to accommodate someone just because they were royal and wanted to choose a godparent for their child who didn't meet the criteria.

After some quick research, it seems that it’d hardly be the first non Anglican godparents in BRF. While we don’t know the religion of each private individual that’s been named as godparent to royal children, there has been a history of foreign royals as godparents. It certainly wasn’t required of them to convert. King Haakon of Norway is one of the future Defender of Faith (Charles)’s godparents.

So Meghan’s friends that are non Anglican being named as godparents shouldn’t be a problem at all.

ETA: I just remembered based on recent news that Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark is a goddaughter to HMQ, so it does seem the rules on who can be godparents in each church might not be as strict as only those that belong to that particular branch of Christianity.

I am the godmother to two children who were Baptized in the COE. I am not Anglican, but at least at my friend's parish, you only had to be baptized in the Christian faith generally, to serve as a godparent, no matter the denomination.

I can imagine that the Sussex baby will be baptized possibly by a high level member of the clergy in the COE so they may be less permissive, but I think the "christian baptism" requirement stands overall.

I think one person that we can rule out at this point is Jessica Mulroney, unless she has converted since her marriage. Although there is that special person role.

Why would she be ruled out? I don't know much about her personal background...

She’s Jewish. Or at least at the time of her wedding, she was. The Mulroneys has a joint faiths ceremony at St. Patrick’s Basilica. Ben is Catholic.

Ah thanks, I didn't know that!

Boy: Philip George William Henry, Earl of Dumbarton
Girl: Lady Alexandra Rachel Elizabeth Mary

The child won't be Prince/ss until Charles becomes King unless the Queen issues letters patent deeming them HRH Prince/ss of the United Kingdom. Right now, the letters patent state that children and grandchildren (in the male line) of the monarch are born with the HRH Princ/ess but it doesn't apply to great grandchildren.

The Queen issued letters patent specifically for William's children. ?

:previous: I think we've seen that the younger generation of royals are not very interested in saddling their children with four given names. Three names seems to suffice.

Girl: Victoria Diana Elizabeth or Victoria Diana Loyce
Boy: Philip Charles Louis

Henry for a boy?
Dad’s official name that isn’t used much. It’s a nice name.

These names are the ones that I'd choose but Harry isn't always conventional & could go for something unusual like Princess Anne did with Zara.

Alice Diana Elizabeth
or
Charles Philip Henry

I suspect Harry would love to call a daughter Diana as a first name but might be anxious that there would be constant media comparisons that could be a burden to the child. I don't think a little Charles would have that as much.

Honestly, I prefer Frances far more than Diana if they are going to honor Harry’s mother. One, I just like the name. Two, it’s a more subtle tribute where the press wouldn’t be making the obvious point ALL.THE.TIME.

I had that concern about Charlotte's name, but it doesn't seem to be a focus of anything. Just the normal (sometimes OTT) Diana/grandmother stuff.

I would love to see Frances used...it's a lovely name for a boy or a girl ...middle name even!

I'm going to go way out on a limb and suggest a name that was the middle name of Diana's great grandmother. Ellen.

It'd be a salute to Harry's American origins and an unique name for the British royal family without being totally unheard of. :D

Given that next year is the 200th birthday of Queen Victoria, I wonder if Victoria or Alexandrina would be used if it’s a girl.

I like Ellen Francis for a Girl

Phillip David for a boy

Interesting about the American forebears of Harry.
After perusing names of Diana's forebears... more guesses:

Franklin Peter Charles David
Edmond Charles Henry Philip
John Franklin Charles

Victoria Frances Mary Camilla
Frances Eliza Meghan Loyce
Rosalind Mary Elizabeth

A girl born on 9th March
Godparents: Serena Williams, Sarah Spencer, Samuel Chatto, two friends and Catherine

I think it’d be nice if the Sussexes involved both Diana and Camilla in the bmame one way or another. Harry has spojen about the false evil stepmother narrative the press tried to paint with Camilla before. It’d be nice to honor both his mother and stepmother in the name Along with Meghan’s mother.

Random thoughts,

I think they will pick a name used by royal in past but not living relatives or ancestors from recent generations as the first name, and their parents/grandparents/great grandparents' names as the middle names.

First name: Norah, Edwina, Adelaide or Victoria for girl; Arthur, Edmund, Alexander for boy (I just go through Wikipedia and pick some names of previous British princes/princesses that sound nice ?)

Middle name: Frances, Loyce (mother), Elizabeth, Jeanette (grandmother) for girl, Philip, Alvin (grandfather), Albert, James (great grandfather) for boy.

Victoria Frances ... they will call her Toria (rhymes with Doria)
Charles Henry ....Charlie

I'd say hightly unlikely that they will give the name Charles - Victoria is not likely but more possibele.
