On 7th and 8th June there will be a State Visit from France to Monaco. Can't remember any official visit to the Principality lasting more than one day so this is very exciting. There will be a state dinner as part of it too.

Here's the official announcement for the state visit:

State Visit to the Principality of Monaco by the President of the French Republic and Mrs. Brigitte Macron Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, 2025

(..) Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene will welcome Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and his wife, Mrs. Brigitte Macron, for a state visit to the Principality on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, 2025.
This visit is part of the strong and centuries-old bonds of friendship between the two countries.
The Heads of State will meet during a private audience preceding the State Dinner, which will take place in the evening in the Throne Room of the Prince's Palace. Sunday will be the setting for the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF). It will begin with a visit to the Larvotto site of the SeaWergie company, a thalassotherapy company specializing in spa treatments, in the presence of local stakeholders.
At the same time, HSH Princess Charlene and Mrs. Brigitte Macron will attend the "Water Safety" event to highlight the work of the Princess Charlene's Foundation, one of whose major objectives is to prevent drowning and save lives. HSH Prince Albert II and the President of the French Republic will then close the two-day BEFF and participate in a luncheon attended by heads of state, heads of government, and representatives of royal families.Following this closing ceremony, they will travel to Nice for the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3).

Has Prince Albert hosted a proper State Visit during his reign before? Are the banquets white tie and will we finally see Charlene in a tiara?

Although technically it is a state visit, I don't think there will be a state banquet. I also don't recall seeing a state visit to Monaco, so I don't know.

The program says there will be a state dinner in the throne room on the first evening.
True. So it is quite possible that the princesses of the princely family wear a tiara on this occasion. :)

My tiara expectation are low - in France state banquets aren't tiara events even for Royal ladies who have them. Charlene seems to avoid tiaras where she can.

My expectations are low too, on the other hand it is Monaco who are the hosts here, not France, so we might get a surprise.

We may indeed. If Charlene had worn tiaras more I'd be putting money on an appearance. But then she does like to surprise IMO so maybe we will see a tiara after all. This will be a big event for Monaco.

The French typically wear just a regular suit with a tie (see for example state visit by Denmark) and at most black tie (state visit by the UK), so white tie with tiaras seems very unlikely if both parties prefer to do without.

I vaguely recall a State visit to Monaco from the Chinese president and his wife when the twins were toddlers?

Anyway, given all the recent controversy surrounding President Macron and his wife, I predict more media coverage than usual for this event.😣

There have been lots of State visits to Monaco but they have only lasted one day with an official lunch. This is the first 2 day visit complete with dinner that I can recall during Albert's reign.

According to this article, this visit is "a high-level diplomatic event aimed at celebrating Franco-Monegasque friendship with all the pomp and protocol that the Principality can muster".

The presidential couple may stay at the Hôtel de Paris, overlooking the Place du Casino in Monte-Carlo, but this information has not yet been confirmed.

White tie, Black tie, or No tie - State visits to Monaco really does not happen every day so i’m really curious to follow this one
Not sure what the protocol is and if we will see Charlene or her sister in law in tiaras.

Monaco doesn't normally do state visits, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear the announcement of the upcoming French visit. Hopefully there will be a gala dinner with a tiara for Princess Charlene.

Is that owing to the special relationship between Monaco and France?

I'm quite surprised too as it's the first two days State Visit EVER between Monaco ans France. To be exact the last State Dinner between the two countries was in ... october 1959 (!) when President De Gaulle hosted Prince Rainier and Princess Grace at the Elysée.

Since Charlene married Albert I remember Montenegro, Croatia and China having state visits, there might have been others.

Photos and information about the relationship between Monaco and France have been shared by the Palace today:

State Visit 🇫🇷🤝🇲🇨
For more than five centuries, Monaco and France have shared a unique history. Alliances, treaties, and official visits have forged a relationship based on trust, respect, and closeness.

1512: France recognizes Monaco's sovereignty
The context of the Italian Wars in the late 15th and early 16th centuries gave Monaco a strategic position. In 1489, King Charles VIII mentioned the "liberties" of the Lord of Monaco, but it was in 1512 that King Louis XII recognized that the lordship was held only "by God and the sword." A founding act in a long-term relationship.

1641: The Beginning of a "Community of Destiny"
After a period of alliance with Charles V and a Spanish protectorate between 1524 and 1641, the Grimaldis turned toward France when it became the dominant power in Europe. Through the Treaty of Péronne, fiefs were granted in France by King Louis XIII to Prince Honoré II. They formed the first layer of French collectivities that belong to the current network of Grimaldi Historic Sites, created 10 years earlier.

1861 & 1918: Treaties of Friendship
The 1861 treaty, signed between France and Monaco, confirmed the sovereignty of the Principality and compensated for the loss of Menton and Roquebrune, which had seceded in 1848. In 1918, a new agreement strengthened the alliance between the two countries. France guaranteed the Principality's continued existence at the end of the First World War by including this agreement in the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.

Two historic visits under the Fifth Republic: 1960 & 1984

During General de Gaulle's official visit in 1960, the issue of marine environmental protection and the possible dumping of nuclear waste in the Mediterranean was raised during a meeting with Commander Cousteau. In 1984, François Mitterrand's state visit provided the opportunity to sign an agreement that expanded Monegasque territorial waters.

(..) I hope a tiara event, too!

This is an exciting visit - I do wish we got more of these to Monaco and from Monaco to other countries. Give us tiaras Charlene please! Her fashion choices and even jewellery have been outstanding recently so I am hopefully not matter what the dress code (black tie/white tie etc) she will be on form

Its also a 2 day visit.
