Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako spent their last day in Nagasaki Prefecture today, September 14.

On September 18th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the United Nations University 50th Anniversary Ceremony at the UNU headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo. His Majesty gave a speech in English. Afterwards, they met 16 graduate students from 14 countries about their research.

  • 9/29: badminton in Otsu City, Prefectural School for the Blind (where they will observe a junior high class, envelope production from recycled Braille newspapers, and attend briefing from local guide dog organization) in Hikone City

On day 2 in Kyoto today, October 5, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the opening ceremony of an international forum on science and technology and visited the Katsura Imperial Villa:





 
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will visit Kyoto and Osaka October 4-6 for the 22nd Annual Meeting of STS Forum and Osaka-Kansai Expo. Empress Masako's attendance depends on her health.
  • 10/4: Shinkansen to Kyoto, Kyoto Botanical Gardens, briefing on Prefecture and accommodation at Kyoto Omiya Imperial Palace
  • 10/5: opening ceremony of the 22nd Annual Meeting of the International Forum on Science and Technology in Society (STS Forum) at Kyoto International Conference Center, attend opening session, meeting with STS Forum members, Katsura Imperial Villa
  • 10/6: travel to Osaka, Japan Pavilion, United Nations Pavilion, International Organisation Pavilion, Future of Life Pavilion, meeting with Expo officials, return to Tokyo via plane

According to NTV, the Katsura Imperial Villa visit was private. Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako toured Shokintei teahouse, the most prestigious teahouse on the property, and garden. Naruhito last visited in 1980 and this is Masako's first visit.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will visit Mie Prefecture November 8-9 for the 44th National Sea Enrichment Convention.
  • 11/8: visit Toba Aquarium (Toba City), meet people involved in fishing industry (Shima City)
  • 11/9: National Sea Enrichment Convention (Shima City), tour training vessel at Mie Prefectural Fisheries High School (Minamiise Town) and release fish at Shukudaso Fishing Port
Reportedly, they will release spiny lobsters and juvenile red sea bream.

Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako and Princess Aiko will visit Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall in Sumida, Tokyo on October 23 to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. The family will offer flowers and the visit marks the culmination of Their Majesties' memorial tour.

Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall enshrines the remains of victims from the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923) and Tokyo Air Raids (1945).

Today, November 13, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended an event for the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of the JICA Overseas Cooperation Corps at the Tokyo International Forum (Chiyoda Ward):


 
Planning is underway for Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to visit Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures next spring for the 15th anniversary of the 2011 earthquake. A visit to Kumamoto Prefecture for its 10th earthquake anniversary (April 2016) is being considered for the autumn.

On November 20th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met 15 recipients of the Health Culture Award from the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare at the Imperial residence.


The couple privately visited the "Empress Teimei and the Peerage" exhibition at Kasumi Kaikan Memorial Gakushuin Museum in Toshima, Tokyo around 6pm, staying about 2.5 hours.
