Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the opening ceremony of a conference hosted by the Global Environmental Action nongovernmental organization in Tokyo today, October 23:

On November 20th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met laureates of the 35th Praemium Imperiale Awards and international advisors at the Imperial Palace's small dining hall Rensui.

On December 4th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Trần Thanh Mẫn and his spouse Nguyễn Thị Thanh Nga at the Imperial residence for about 25 minutes.

His Majesty expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support following the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January and extended condolences for the typhoon Vietnam suffered in September. He also recalled the warm hospitality he received during a visit in 2009.

Chairman Mẫn stated that the relationship between Japan and Vietnam is very good in various fields, including politics and culture, and that he is grateful for Japan's support.

On December 12th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met 72 people at audiences at the Imperial Palace.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will make a day trip to Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture on December 17. They plan to inspect heavy rain damaged areas and meet victims and responders. This will be Their Majesties' third visit to the disaster-stricken Noto region this year. The visit may be postponed to December 18 due to weather conditions.

  • Futegawamachi area of Wajima where the Tsukada River flooded during heavy rain in September, killing 4 people
  • Wajima Junior High School to meet evacuees. Some were victims of January's earthquake and lost their temporary homes
  • back to Wajima City Hall to meet police, Self-Defense Forces, firefighters, and other disaster personnel
  • briefing with mayors of Suzu and Noto cities at Noto Airport before return to Tokyo


 
On December 20th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended an audience with recipients of the Health Culture Award from the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare and their spouses at the Imperial residence.

Emperor Naruhito's family canceled plans to visit Emperor Emeritus Akihito on his 91st birthday on December 23 because Princess Aiko has the flu. Although they do not currently have symptoms, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako canceled as a precaution. Emperor Naruhito also canceled a visit to Idemitsu Museum of Arts to see the Japan-Türkiye 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations exhibition, scheduled for the afternoon.

Princess Aiko had a fever of 38 degrees C and cough on December 22. She tested positive for influenza A the next morning with her fever dropping to 37 degrees. She will recover at home until the 27th.

If her parents remain free of symptoms, they will resume official duties on the 24th.

Plans are underway for Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to visit Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Okinawa in 2025 to commemorate 80th anniversary of the end of WWII.

... The imperial couple plan to visit the Peace Park in Nagasaki, one of the two cities devastated by atomic bombings during World War II, when they attend an annual national cultural festival in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, in September.

In the summer, they are expected to visit Hiroshima, the other atomic bombed city, and Okinawa, which saw a fierce ground battle between Japanese and U.S. troops, the source said...
