There is no statement or evidence to say that they actually have decided on Eton. However, it was reported that he visited Eton in March (Easter Holidays) this implies he may have chosen his boarding house.Let me rephrase it then. According to the British media, the Prince and Princess of Wales have decided on Eton as their preferred choice of school for George. Many posters seem to be skeptical about that and are still considering that George's parents might prefer a different option.
Of course, George has to be admitted first.
Harry was going to Eton whether Diana died or not. It had nothing to do with her dying because he started the admissions process when Diana was still alive.Harry got in to Eaton because they didn't want him to be away from William after the death of Diana. So I am sure if W&C want George to go to Eaton he will indeed go to Eaton.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised either way.
It is a stone throw from Windsor, I doubt he would bring any more disruption than is already there.I'm still hoping that George will go elsewhere - not keen on the disruption to daily life in Eton that his presence here could bring to the town
I'll let you know when/if it happens! It is a stone throw from Windsor, I doubt he would bring any more disruption than is already there.
That’s not unusual. The footpaths were closed when Harry & William attended. It wouldn’t be any different now.I'll let you know when/if it happens!
My guess is that the first thing to go will be public access to the permissive footpaths across the playing fields, which would be a real shame as they're used regularly by locals. The Friday afternoon tours are already carefully supervised, they'd probably stop. The College closes Dorney Lake, another favourite place for walks, at the drop of a hat so access there would probably end. Locals are allowed to use the swimming pool, can't imagine that would continue either....... and so on.
or into the military. That is, if he wants to go to university.
George will also be able to pop over for tea with the King on Sundays, like William did with the late Queen.Eton is indeed a full boarding school. However, parents are welcome to come and watch their kids play sport most weekends, and take them out for a meal. Not quite sure about Eton, but most boarding schools allow exeat weekends every third week, allowing the kids to come home for a night.
Various posts in this discussion have referred to media reports, but I haven't been able to find a link/quotation from any press report in the posts made to this thread after January. (If I have overlooked one, please correct me.)
It is a bit difficult to follow a discussion about media reports without knowing what reports are being discussed...

TALK OF THE TOWN: Royals agree on new school for Prince George
TALK OF THE TOWN: Although William and Kate were spotted looking around a number of top schools, Eton and rival Marlborough College were clear front-runners.www.dailymail.co.uk
And I can guarantee nobody at Eton would be going around boasting about this. They’d get their backsides kicked.Thank you for posting the source!
The headline does not appear to be justified by the article. The actual information is merely:
"But now insiders tell me there is a 'smugness' emanating from Eton about a forthcoming announcement. 'It was like, 'I know something and the people at Eton know something, but I'm not going to tell you'. That was after William and Kate visited Eton,' says my source."
That some individuals at Eton are presently emanating smug vibes does not seem like rock-solid proof of anything...
If you combine this with how in the past months we have been getting leaks and stories about how George wants to go to Eton and how Willam and Kate visited the school and while other schools have been mentioned it's always been pointed out the end choice is Eton. However we just have to wait and see!Thank you for posting the source!

Because William attended Eton. Certain media have framed this as a Kate vs William thing. Should George attend Eton then the royals won over commoner Kate or stepford Kate wanted to be more royal than the royals. And if George attends Marlborough Kate won and is breaking tradition or is deroyaling the future king.If you combine this with how in the past months we have been getting leaks and stories about how George wants to go to Eton and how Willam and Kate visited the school and while other schools have been mentioned it's always been pointed out the end choice is Eton. That is silly as there is no "royal tradition" of going to Eton. William was the first British heir (or future heir) who went there.Because William attended Eton. Charles’s great-uncle Henry went to Eton with the future King Leopold III (and a boarding school before that), but he was an exception. In fact, as far as tradition goes, before Charles' generation, royal princes would be homeschooled by private tutors. They didn't go to normal schools and mix with other children.
For example, this article from Tatler.
Or on Marie Claire, People.com, The Daily Mail, GB News, etc., etc.
Note: The Daily Mail, which is not always reliable, seems to be source of the news and other vehicles are mostly quoting it.
Yes Willam was following the Spencer tradition of going to Eton. That is silly as there is no "royal tradition" of going to Eton. William was the first British heir (or future heir) who went there.

Yes, George has not sat the Common Entrance yet, that will only happen at the end of Year 8, so summer 2026. That said, it is very rare for an independent school, having made an offer to a student, to decline admission on the basis of results of the Common Entrance. He hasn't taken his Common Entrance exam yet.
He may have taken Eton's "Entrance Tests" (Interviews, etc), but he hasn't taken the CE which will be sent to selective schools and marked. THEN it'll be decided which school he attends.
All they've decided right now is which schools to send his results to when he takes the exam next year.
But that still doesn't mean he'll choose Eton, if they have also decided to have his results sent to Marlborough, or any of the other schools they visited.Yes, George has not sat the Common Entrance yet, that will only happen at the end of Year 8, so summer 2026. I agree. I have not made any comment on what school George may choose to attend. But that still doesn't mean he'll choose Eton, if they have also decided to have his results sent to Marlborough, or any of the other schools they visited.
But Henry was not the heir to the Crown. As I said, William was the first future heir to go to Eton.Charles’s great-uncle Henry went to Eton with the future King Leopold III (and a boarding school before that), but he was an exception.
It should not matter what his father and grandfather did. If university is not for George (or his siblings), he should not go.Both his father and grandfather went to university before going through military training (Charles was actually the first British heir to go to university if I am not mistaken).
Given the precedent set out in the previous two generations and today's expectations about the education of the heir, I would be surprised if George did not go to university himself.
Great point. In Charles' case it seemed to have been the Duke of Edinburgh who picked the school. So, if the unofficial rule is that the married-in parent has the deciding vote, they might end up at Marlborough... as that is where the Middletons went.Yes Willam was following the Spencer tradition of going to Eton.
