Duke Franz and the Royal House of Bavaria 2: 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I was checking out the upcoming Sotheby's Royal & Noble Jewels sale catalogue, and there are a few items being sold that are property of the "Ducal House of Bavaria" . Several tiaras and really historic items from King Ludwig I and Queen Therese and other jewels. Rather disappointing to see that branch let go of things like this.

At last, we meet baby Rupprecht!
Prince Ludwig and Princess Sophie have been humbled and delighted by the many warm wishes and kind congratulations received for the birth of their first child. They would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation for the many generous gifts they received from all over the world for the birth of their son Prince Rupprecht: from baby clothes and toys to books and plush animals - some lovingly handmade - they deeply appreciate each thoughtful gesture. The young family is doing well and looks forward to supporting their son as he grows up.

Can you point out which Jewels and Tiaras. Can't find any from the bavarian royals?

Yes, starting on Page 3 of the catalogue, about halfway down the page, starting with some jet and sardonyx mourning parures. They actually are selling dozens of jewels. including 2 tiaras. their lots go into page 4 of the catalogue.

Then some Thurn und Taxis jewels as well. The first 2 and a half pages are all jewelry from the Bulgarian Royal family, from the Wurttembourg prince who recently died, whose mother was a daughter of Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria.

I don't remember ever seeing this Laurel tiara. Is it known what branch of the family is selling?

I always like to see Franz, the Duke of Bavaria attending official events. He is such an exceptional person and still busy and healthy at 91! I hope he'll have more years in good health and spirits.

Beautiful words by Duke Franz

How wonderful is this! As a Dutchwoman and member of the House of Wittelsbach, Sophie is the ambassador for an exhibition on Rachel Ruysch - one of the most important female painters of the Baroque period.

The painting is lovely indeed and nice how the Bavarian RF still gets to promote one of Bavaria's great museums, where so many works originally belonging to Wittelsbach collections are on display.

See the post above from November, Sophie as Patron and several family members attended the exhibition opening back then.

WARNING!
The next set of photos it's too cute to handle!
Prince Rupprecht, the son of Prince Ludwig and Princess Sophie, received a pair of lederhosen from the Bavarian Traditional Costume Association as a “Weisert”. The “Weisert” can be understood as an Alpine tradition in which bread or yeast pastries are given as a gift at the birth of a child. Little Rupprecht will probably only come to appreciate the benefits of this practical garment later. Lederhosen used to be simply practical everyday clothes in the Alpine region and were often passed down from generations. Today, they have evolved into special-occasion attire (costumes) for folk festivals. Nevertheless, the ornate and expensive deerskin pants in particular still have a strong place in many regional traditional costumes and it´s impossible to imagine traditional costume clubs without them. Members of the House of Wittelsbach have learnt to appreciate lederhosen early on. Prince Regent Luitpold wore them when hunting, while other family members enjoyed to use them as practical everyday clothing for their children. Prince Ludwig still wears them today for the annual Lion March in September.

Duke Franz spoke about his and his family´s stay in Dachau concentrationcamp.

I don't say this kind of thing about people I don't know personally, but I love Duke Franz!
May God grant him everlasting health and happiness!
Isn’t he lovely ? A very friendly, intelligent, down to earth and charismatic man who is easy to listen to and to understand and like…

Not to forget that he at the age of 90 decided to even officially come out of the closet and finally be proud in front of the whole world about who he is…

He would have been a lovely monarch had it still been a thing in Bavaria… But he has been a fantastic family-head and representative for Bavaria (especially in the arts) anyway…

I know he turns 92 this summer but i hope our lord still gives him some good years…

On February 7, the lovely Duke was visited by the Stadtsoldaten of Bonn at Nymphenburg Palace.

Read the full caption because the history behind the Wittelsbach's connection to the Stadtsoldaten is actually quite fascinating! :)
