Though it was predictable,it's a very tragic news, especially for his mother. My condolences to the family.
Actually I feel relief. I don't know if that's the right word but I just feel that he was suffering so much that it is good that he is finally out of pain and out of limbo. It is sad for his family but the entire time was sad for them. Unless you have gone through this type of thing, it's difficult to understand. You go from high hopes to the depths of despair and you try to be at least a little happy for the children. It's exhausting.

I just hope the family understands that he is in a better place now. It's all just so sad.

I understand what you mean. It's hard enough to lose a family member, but the fact that they've gone through such a long period of uncertainty has to have been so emotionally difficult for all of them already. A very sad ending, but one that I hope can bring as much peace as possible to all.
This is such a terrible news!! My heart stopped when I heard the news, this is so sad! :verysad:
Poor Mabel, poor poor Luana and Zaria.
My toughts and prayers are with the whole family and the Dutch people

:rose: Rust in vrede lieve prins Friso!! :rose:
Such terrible news. May he rest in peace now. I feel for the whole family. :-(
How terrible, probably better but so so sad. Everything, the accident, the coma. He was only 44!
May God be with his wife daughters, his mother and brothers.
I pray for Beatrix; burying her beloved son, horrible.
So sad to hear about Prince Friso. I feel so sorry for Mabel, his little daughters and his mum. My heart stopped when I saw the news.
My condolences to his family
I gasped when I saw the headline, yet I knew it would happen eventually. I feel so sad for the entire family but particularly his young daughters who will have few memories of their father. RIP Friso.
May he RIP.
Much strength to Mabel and their two daughters.
He passed away only one day after Mabel's 45th birthday - thank God he did not die yesterday ...
This is sad news despite the fact that I knew very little about him.
I feel so sad for the whole family. It is very hard to lose a loved one, a husband, father, son, brother, a friend. Friso always had such a great smile. I pray that God will bring this family His comfort and help, especially during this time.
Wow, even though you knew this was probably going to be the outcome, I was so sad when I logged on and saw the news. My mom buried her youngest son, my older brother, and it is something you carry with you forever. May they continue to help each other, support each other, and remember the fun-happy times that he gave everyone. He may no longer be here, but will never be forgotten or far from their hearts.
Prince Frisco, May you Rest in Peace. God Bless the Dutch family, especially Princess Beatrix, Princess Mabel and his beautiful girls!!!
My condolences to his wife, children, mother and extended family. While it was not unexpected, it is still very sad to read this news.
My condolences to the Dutch royal family. May he rest in peace.
I am terribly saddened by the news of Friso's passing. My heart goes out to his mother, Mabel and the little girls who will grow up without their father..May he rest in peace and i wish the whole Dutch royal family strength to get through this tough time.
My heart goes out to the Dutch people, and of course the royal family, especially his children. I feel sadness as it is a tragedy for the family, but I also feel relief for the Prince- the state he was in, he was not living, he was existing. Letting him go was the greatest act of love. It will be hard for those children, without Daddy, but they have not really had Daddy for over a year. The family's love and faith will help them heal.
My heartfelt condolences to the Dutch RF and the Dutch people. I hope that our Dutch posters will keep us informed..
How sad this is, even though this was expected somehow, it's still heartbreaking. How horrible is for Mabel to loose her husband, Luana and Zaria to loose a father and Beatrix to loose her son.
It was hard when he was in coma, it's dificult to say, but it is better this way because this is the end of the course of that painful journey they had, I hope they can have peacefull days ahead now, though with not all happiness but with relief that he is not suffering anymore as well as they can keep living and go through their lives.

I'm sure the funeral will be so sad, to outlive a son, it's truly hard for a mother to bear.
I wonder if the other royal houses will send representatives to attend Friso's funeral. How was with Claus's funeral?
May he rest in peace , so sad for Princess beatrix Princess mable and the girls .
RIP Friso.

And peace to his mother, wife and daughters.
Any idea of when religious services will be held for Prince Friso? I wonder if it will be public or private?
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

This is a good summary.

Extract from the Daily Telegraph 12th August

“His Majesty the King (Willem-Alexander) announces with great regret that this morning his highness Prince Johan Friso ... died at the Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague, aged 44,” a palace statement said.

The palace statement said that the prince, who was based in London with his wife and two children, “died from complications as a result of oxygen shortages during his ski accident.”
He had “minimal consciousness” and his condition was unchanged, the palace said.

It then took nearly 50 minutes to resuscitate the prince after he was pulled from the snow – time that may have caused permanent damage, said Dr Wolfgang Koller, head of trauma at the Innsbruck hospital.

The prince was taken to the private Wellington Hospital in London for treatment, and in November the royal family said he was showing signs of “minimal consciousness” – leading to hopes that he was returning to health.

His wife, Princess Mabel, a highly-respected human rights specialist, was CEO of Nelson Mandela’s Global Elders group until she resigned following his accident, to keep a vigil at his bedside.

But in July this year, 17 months after his accident, the prince was moved back to The Hague, which some have seen as a sign that he was going to be allowed to die in his native country.

However Selma Tromp, vice president of the Netherlands Society of Neurology, told The Daily Telegraph she believed he was moved back to The Hague because there was no further hospital treatment available to him, and he was to be given home care.

“There’s no suggestion that the life support machine was turned off by doctors,” she said.

“The palace said he died from complications, so it doesn’t sound like there was anything electronic that was being used to keep him alive. He was stable.
“But complications are very common for patients in a coma.”

Mark Rutte, the prime minister, described it as “a black and sad day,” and said that his thoughts were with the family – in particular his mother Beatrix, who abdicated in April, becoming Princess Beatrix.

“For Princess Beatrix the loss is indescribably great,” he said. “A child dying is the worst that can happen to a parent.”

Prince Friso’s wife was said to have spent Sunday – the day of her 45th birthday – at his bedside.

Dutch television stations on Monday night altered their schedules to broadcast tributes to the prince, who was much loved in the Netherlands. END

So sad for Princess Mabel.
So sad. My heart goes out to his two daughters and his wife Mabel, the royal family and the Dutch citizens. May he rest in peace. From God we come and to him we return.

This is sad news.
But I think it is beautiful that he was with his family in the Netherlands these last few weeks and that Mabel had him with her on her birthday yesterday. It's like he decided that it was a good time to go.
