Reunion celebration on June 13th

It will be a festive day when Her Majesty the Queen and Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Prince Christian on 13 June 2021 take part in the official celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Reunification.

The Royal House's program on 13 June 2021
The official Reunion Celebration begins on the morning of 13 June 2021, where the Queen, Crown Prince and Prince Christian in a carriage will drive across the old border at Frederikshøj south of Kolding. The carriage ride will take place in the same place as Christian 10. on 10 July 1920 rode over the old border on the white horse Malgré Tout accompanied by Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Knud on horseback and Queen Alexandrine and Princess Thyra in the carriage. 101 years later, Christian 10.'s granddaughter, great-grandson and great-great-grandson will once again cross the old border, where an interpretation of the sport of honor from 1920 has been set up. At the event, the Queen gives a speech and inaugurates a sculpture.

Subsequently, the Queen, the Crown Prince and Prince Christian participate in a festive service in Haderslev Cathedral. Here, too, German Federal President HE Frank-Walter Steinmeier and wife Fr. Elke Büdenbender and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Mr. Bo Tengberg participate.
In the middle of the day, the Queen visits the new reunification park at Folkehjem in Aabenraa. The Reunification Park is Aabenraa Municipality's new national park in front of the historic Folkehjem, which played an important role before - and after - the Reunification in 1920. In 1918, the Folkehjemmet formed the framework for the adoption of the Aabenraa resolution, which became crucial for the final Danish-German demarcation.

The Queen continues the day in Sønderborg, where the Queen, Germany's Presidential Couple and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Mr. Bo Tengberg participates in a ceremony at Kongeskansen at Dybbøl Banke. After the event at Dybbøl Banke, a visit will be made to the German minority's new museum in Sønderborg, the Deutsches Museum Nordschleswig. Subsequently, the Queen watches a reunion show at Alsion in the late afternoon.

The reunion celebration ends on the Royal Ship Dannebrog in Sønderborg Harbor, where the Queen hosts a reception.*Subsequently, the Queen has invited the German Presidential Couple and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Mr.*Bo Tengberg for dinner on the Royal Ship.

Interesting that QMII is going solo after the service in Haderslev Cathedral.

There is plenty of room for both Frederik and Christian to attend as well.
Perhaps they will go solo in as yet unpublished events? We can hope.

I'm also curious to see how well this will be covered by national TV.
The regional stations will of course go non stop.
 
Ohhh! Looking forward to it! I love seeing several generations together.

Are they having the celebration this year because 2020 was too awkward with the Pandemic? And off topic Christian Eriksens collapse on field made our news here. I hope he makes a full recovery and how wonderful was Captain Simon Kjear who performed cpr and knew what to do. He probably saved his life.

Correct.
That was during the lockdown, so it wouldn't have been possible to celebrate this on anything remotely decent scale.

The DRF are now slowly nearing the old border in the carriage, escorted by a limited squadron of the Guards Hussars - due to Corona restrictions.

Back in 1920 Christian X actually fell off the second horse he rode and hurt himself pretty badly. So bad that he had to continue by car for the rest of the events.

There are still limitations in regards to the size of the crowds.

Briefly: While crossing the border on his white (chalked) horse, Christian X, who was actually a very sensitive man behind his rough exterior, was presented with flowers. One was a girl who had been adopted by a priest and his wife. He took the girl along with him on his horse.
The elated king asked her if she wanted to go with him to Copenhagen. Panic!! The girl couldn't see her mother, she had already lost her real parents and she wasn't particular keen on being taken away from her new parents! But fortunately the girl was shortly after reunited with her mother and all was well.
Christian X kept sending cards to the family, wishing them well, for the rest of his reign - and today the daughter of that girl is present.

Christian looking slightly nervous. Daddy is relaxed and visibly delighted and chatting (and calming) his son. QMII's oversized sombrero-like sun-hat was taken by the wind - it's almost tradition.

Was there stillLockdown in Denmark a year ago. Here the Lockdown was much longer then last year where from the Middle of May most was going back to more normal.

Do they not use Hatpins in Denmark. Noticed she had also problems with her gown as the Wind was blowing it up.

They do. But there is a limit to how much a hatpin can hold in place. Someone picked up the hatpin and gave it to QMII.

Christian had problems with his long hair as well. The area is pretty flat and open, so when it blows, it blows!

QMII gave a nice all-round speech.

The lockdown in DK lasted from mid-March to well into the summer.

I like the fact that QM is wearing white as Queen Alexandrine and Princess (whose name I can't remember, sorry!) wore white in 1920. Knowing QM I'm sure it's no coincidence. Also, I think the hat is similar to the one Queen Alexandrine was wearing - QM probably hadn't thought about how windy it might be. But as you say, Muhler, tradition has to be kept to as well! I'm skiving off church this morning to watch this so just as well there is a church service :flowers:

Nice to see Christian Olsen is still keeping busy!

Christian Eugen Olsen is a great commentator, with a wry sense of humor. And of course he really know what he is talking about!

Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie, who were present at the most official event, crossing the old border.

Don't know what church you belong to, but it may differ from the Lutheran celebratory service.

It's important to point out that until 1848 the ethnic Danes in Slesvig (Schleswig) didn't consider themselves Danes first, they were Slesvigans first (Schleswigans).
That change came about the European surge in nationalism that started during the Napoleonic Wars and really took off during the 1840's - hence the many revolutions i that period.
Today, they consider themselves Danes through and through but they are also very much Slesvigans.
Just like the Danish minority south of the border, the German minority feel a bit of both German and Danish and also Slesvigans.
After all Schleswig/Slesvig and Holstein/Holsten were a national entity of their own for 800 years, albeit under the Danish kings, not Denmark.

Yes, I spotted Count Ingolf and his wife - always nice to see them. I'm Church of England (Anglican) but I always enjoy seeing other traditions. Must admit I don't think I could get used to the fact that you sit for your hymns, but then I'm a singer. I know my Vicar is glad that she doesn't have to wear your clergy's collars/ruffs :whistling:
 
I think the long black coat is worse. I understand it can be very warm!

From now on QMII will go solo.
Frederik and Christian will presumably drive back to Fredensborg, some 3 hours drive away.

Yes, because I'm a lay minister in the Church I also wear a cassock (what we call those long black cloaks) and even though mine is made of a much thinner material than those in Denmark, it can still get pretty uncomfortable in summer!

Loved the interior of the Cathedral and very impressed with the pulpit - one of the things I do as a lay minister is preach but I think I might be overwhelmed trying to preach from that pulpit :lol:

I live about 200 km from where QMII is right now. If the locals talk fast and among themselves I would say I understand about half of what they are saying.
On the other hand foreigners who study Danish, have several times told me that people from Southern Jutland are the easiest to understand, when they speak the Queen's Danish. - Copenhageners are difficult to understand I'm told.
For such a small country we have a surprising number of different dialects.
Say someone from Copenhagen, born and bred, will without hearing me talk, soon be able to spot that I'm from Jutland, simply by the phrases and the dialect that comes in, when I write in Danish.
When Mrs. Muhler speak in dialect, the pronunciation in particular is very different from mine, not to mention Southern Jutlandic, despite the fact that she grew up some 50 km north of where I was born.
Fortunately the Southern Jutlanders take pride in keeping their dialects alive.

Western Jutlandic dialects have a lot of grammar and words in common with English.

QMII who is very perceptive and also has a keen ear for dialects loves to point that out, because she is so often exposed to dialects on her summer cruises.

When my dad first met his future Danish wife the ones of her family me and my brother could understand the best were her North Jutlandic aunt and uncle (Liz og Tage). For some reason the dialect their Western Zeelandic nieces and nephews had troubles with understanding was very easy to understand for two kids from Southern Sweden.

He should go back to his old hairstyle which i liked more on him anyway.
 
QMII looks like she's really enjoying the event (despite having to hold her hat).

Frederik has really started to take on a handsome, distinguished look, especially in his uniform, as he has matured.

Christian looks like he's in the same ill-fitting suit he wore for his confirmation. It sits fine at the collar, but it's much too short through the body and arms. Very odd looking.

I saw a clip of Christian speaking to the press. I know that’s something he’s been doing off and on for a couple of years now, (and has always done well), but I’m always impressed at how calm and mature he seems. He’s smoother and more confident at that sort of semi-spontaneous conversation than his father. Actually, his entire demeanour the last couple of times we’ve seen him has reminded me a lot of Mary.
