Crown Princess Mette-Marit's connection with Jeffrey Epstein

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Other European royals will definitely keep being diplomatic towards MM should they encounter each other, but the question is how many will actually continue to consider her a personal friend...
Agreed! I was thinking about the Swedish royals that have been so close to the Norwegian CP family. In my opinion Queen Silvia's and Princess Madeleine's dedication to the Childhood Foundation has seemed very genuine. I wonder how they feel about MM continuing the friendship with Epstein while knowing about his past.

I don't think MM will have any friends left from the royal circle after this.

I am honestly wondering: WHY?
I get Fergies connection to Epstein - cash and influence, to generate cash. But MM?
Unlike Fergie, she has no business, no need of cash, I reckon Haakon is not a pervert but a nice looking and devoted husband.
I don't get her angle to Epstein, any thoughts? And I wonder, how did she explain this to Haakon?

In my opinion, Mette gravitated towards Drama and Bad Boys.
That was the Crowd She was involved in AND with prior to meeting Haakon. Criminals.

Some People crave Risk in their *personal or professional* Life and Epstein had it in Spades. And we still don't know ALL the details.
Why DID Epstein referr to MM as a "Mess" ? And WHO and WHEN was the "Mystery Man" that made MM feel good about herself, that She wrote Epstein about.

She even wanted Epstein to meet Haakon. She was that confident in their potential meet up instead of keeping Epstein a secret. It’s about the thrill, familiarity & life Epstein brings especially knowing her lifestyle pre-royalty. She was even described in the emails as more chaotic iirc compared to other royals, found royal weddings boring & even wanted to recommend an inappropriate wallpaper for Marius when he was underage that objectifies women. Her connection to Epstein is not that bizarre once you really think about it. She’s been accused of participating in human trafficking in India as well.

100% - this has been the biggest thing to get my head around for me. Why would MM need to associate with Epstein? As you say Fergie was just desperate for cash and growing her "business" and would go anywhere for a free lunch as the saying goes. Andrew seemed to meet with through Maxwell and because Andrew say himself as a businessman and trade expert (he was neither and certainly no good at either of those things).
But why did MM stay close to Esptein? She was a Crown Princess with enough money and wealth to live a lifestyle of her choosing, she also lucked out in marrying into a RF where the expectations placed upon her seemed to be pretty close to zero. I mean heck the family went off travelling at one point and no one said anything. Haakon seems kind and good natured and was pretty good looking, Norway is respected for its NGO work so she had it all to play for. I just don't understand why she built up a friendship with Epstein? She appears in over 1000 emails and met him numerous times, how did she explain this to Haakon? Did she? Or did she lie about going to stay at this uber wealthy single man's Florida home? If she didn't lie what did Haakon think? I am not suggesting for one second men and women can not be friends or that something must always be going on, but likewise Haakon (so we are told) had little or nothing to do with Epstein so I think most partners would question their spouse going off to stay at the house of someone they haven't ever met?
I do think MM is attracted those people who skirt the edges of acceptability, Marius' father was hardly a saint when they dated. I think she likes the perceived danger or thrill it brings maybe?
I just find it very very odd. Whilst it doesn't make it right I understand Andrew and Fergie's links to Epstein. I just don't get MM's at all.

Epstein specialized in providing access to things that even the wealthy and privileged couldn't easily get, or legally get.

Personally, I wonder if Mette's "I don't do drugs!" comment in an email to Epstein was likely an inside joke that hints at what he possibly provided her. Yes, she could get drugs in Norway, but Epstein probably guaranteed a much more discreet option, with a higher class of drugs.

When were her health problems known.?
I am sure she was not at the Crown Princes Gathering because of her health.

royalty provides wealth, prestige, power, but also a strict hierarchy and protocol.

my feeling is that after MM experienced royal life, she missed something: kicks, thrills and excitement, and i bet Epstein and his circle provided that in spades

(btw, with regards to the wallpaper, it is possible what is meant is a wallpaper for phone, tablet or laptop...not that she should have involved herself in that, her son wouldn't be the first teen with a sexy wallpaper, but teens can find that stuff themselves very well...maybe she wanted to be 'cool and exciting' mom)

I don’t see Haakon as a completely good guy, not with how he’s had a hand in raising Marius since he was a young child & helped let him become the way he is. His past PR statements about Marius’s trial & lack of sympathy for his victims make him look worse.

Marina Lacerda was abused by Epstein for three years. She doesn't define herself as a victim, but as a survivor.
NRK invited her to "Debatten" this evening. She came to Norway so that the whole world can hear the voices of the victims. She wants the rich and powerful in the Epstein files to take responsibility for their actions.
Lacerda wants answers. Why did the Crown Princess talk to a convicted rapist, even after Googling him?
– There was nothing else in Epstein's world that made him look bad, other than the fact that he liked children. So I feel like she should have known right then and there that she shouldn't be messaging him. She has children of her own. I think it's pretty disgusting that she would even talk to someone like that.
The fact that Mette-Marit was a mother during the period she had contact with Epstein is shocking to Lacerda. Her teenage daughter and her generation are one of the main reasons why Lacerda chose to speak publicly about the abuse she was subjected to. She is provoked by the fact that Mette-Marit has still not commented on the matter in detail: An apology would have been nice. That she admits the truth and says sorry.
NRK submitted Lacerda's statements to the Palace. They refer to Mette-Marit's statement in 2019. And the Palace points out that Mette-Marit said a week ago through the Palace that she wanted to explain more fully about her relationship with Epstein when she is able to.

Marina Lacerda, who was abused by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for several years, was interviewed today on an NRK program. After viewing the interview, the Royal Household released a statement on behalf of Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
After the Crown Princess learned of this interview and the statements made tonight, she wishes to say the following:
"I am deeply shaken by the stories of Epstein's many victims and they have my full support. It is important that their voices are heard. As a woman and a mother, I support them.
Jeffrey Epstein is responsible for his actions. I must take responsibility for not having checked Epstein's background more thoroughly and for not having understood quickly enough what kind of person he was. I deeply regret this, and this is a responsibility I must bear".
The Crown Princess broke off contact in 2014. She wants to talk about what happened and explain herself in more detail.

I honestly thought there was a small chance that Mette wasn't making a full statement because something very explosive was in the works- a divorce announcement. But I don't think that's at all what is happening. She can't come up with a good excuse because there is no excuse. So it's just going to be this steady drip of "but I'll explain in the future", and first it will be because of her son's trial, but then it will be about her health.

How many more statements can we look forward to? This time she forgot to say that she wants to give her explanation at a later time…

“As a woman and a mother I support them” does ring somewhat hollow given not only her son’s behavior but also her own response towards other mothers who raised the treatment of their daughters by her son to her to no avail.

Sorry, but this is something MM should have said long time ago...
She did in 2019.
She told in a statement to DN that:
“I never would have associated with Mr. Epstein if I had been aware of the seriousness of the crimes he committed. I should have investigated his past more thoroughly, and I am sorry that I didn't” [...]
“Through years of work with questions regarding international health issues, I have witnessed first hand the kind of damage sexual assault does to women and children. We all have a responsibility to fight sexual assault, and to support the victims. I wish to express my deepest sympathy and solidarity to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein”

And this statement turned out to be a lie too, shocker

NRK has added a helpful note to the statement - pointing out the second part of the statement is the same as was released on Jan 30th.

I am deeply shaken by the stories of the many victims of Epstein, and they have my full support. It is important that their voices are heard. Both as a woman and a mother, I support them .

Jeffrey Epstein is responsible for his actions. I must take responsibility for not checking Epstein's background more thoroughly and for not understanding quickly enough what kind of person he was. I deeply regret that, and this is a responsibility I must take.
This part of the statement is identical to the one that the Palace sent to the press on January 30 of this year.

NRK also has a helpful timeline of all the statements MM has released.

When she says that she "must take responsibility" for this and that - what does it mean? I guess one way to take responsibility is to step back from her official role. Drop her title and funds from the state. But to be honest, I think the whole talking about "taking responsibility" is just words to make it sound like she is taking these things seriously. Nothing will happen.

Also, it annoys me to no end that she can get away with "I will explain later". Imagine if any of the rest of us would misbehave at our jobs and give our bosses that excuse...

She really has a hell of lot of explaining to do and will probably put it all down to poor judgement and boredom with her royal duties!

In the statement it is said: I must take responsibility for not having checked Epstein's background more thoroughly and for not having understood quickly enough what kind of person he was.

That makes me question where her staff was. And why was she the one doing all the checking? Any person of any interest has a staff that will do background-checks into people they meet simply to avoid being seen with someone with a questionable background.
And as Crown Princess she could have turned to the Norwegian police, intelligence service etc and asking them to do a background check into Epstein.

The fact that this did not happen makes me believe that she wasn't open to het staff/ the royal court/ her in-laws about her connections to Epstein so no one in her entourage knew about the need to do a background check.

It is that or the royal court are a bunch of naive amateurs who believe that the world is full of milk and honey and inhabited by unicorns.

Her staff can only check what she tells them. The only people who would have known about Epstein as a matter of course without MM telling them is the police who protect her (and even then it seems like they weren't told that much) but as for her "office staff", advisors etc they can only act on what she tells them and if she told them about Epstein. Given Haakon only met Epstein once (I think) it seems IMO unlikely she told her staff she was emailing Epstein, certainly not the extent of their communication.
I read somewhere that when she stopped her association with Epstein it was said it was because the Royal Court thought she was being used and she bounced his messages to staff then (or something along those lines).

She comes across as quite a bully (even officially, the 'others have to adapt to me' statement) so maybe staff was intimidated and let her do what she wanted, instead of risking a meltdown.
We can see from how she handled Marius that MM is obviously quite stubborn and will have it her way.

I find it very difficult to understand how her Protection Officers didn’t wave a red flag. Didn’t they accompany her to Epstein’s house.

The whole thing just stinks!

Here's what the head protection for government officials said at the press conference they had because of the situation with Mette-Marit:

"Bodyguards are not personal or professional advisors to government officials. They are not tasked with seeking out or monitoring potential threat actors.

Through threat assessments, PST still has a responsibility to identify individuals who may pose a threat and provides decision-making support to the police districts.

PST also provides recommendations on security measures when traveling, although they do not have the authority to decide whether the trip should be carried out."

Ultimately, I don't think protection officers can stop royals from doing anything. Royals remain in a much higher position of power vs their bodyguards.

I don’t give MM any benefit of the doubt. She knew exactly what she was doing & who she conversed with. These statements are PR nonsense, she’s shown her true colors through a number of controversies so far.
