Crown Princess Mette-Marit's connection with Jeffrey Epstein

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
There are several newspaper articles that explain where Epstein's wealth came from. He apparently had a talent for making himself popular with the super-rich, which gave him the opportunity to work for these people and earn a lot of money himself. More infos can be found in this report.

Yes, I've read that too, but it doesn't really add up. And he also seemed to have known absolutely everybody and their auntie, and then some. Fascinating guy, I have to say.

Absolutely!

I also wonder how Epstein found the time for all this? All these important men. When did Epstein find time to do his business? I have seen some speculation in the weekend papers that Epstein was a Russian spy... if true, then that could explain where he got his money from....
Hm, interesting! I've also gotten the impression that he actually didn't work in finance at all, it was a perfect facade, the money came from elsewhere.

The first contact between MM and JE was allegedly in 2011 and the last in 2014. She could have checked his background before accepting any invitations! She didn’t! And yet, the contact was discontinued at a point in 2014; did someone warn her?
I’ve lost track of the timeline, and I have a couple of questions:
A. What year did the Epstein scandal break the international news? 2016 or 2018 ( because of the involvement of Andrew MW?)
B. especially to the American members: How much was JE in the US news before the big scandal broke?
Epstein was all over the news from 2008 onwards and he was entered on the Sex Offenders Register in 2013.
Unless MM was living with an enclosed silent order of nuns in a remote convent during this period then perhaps she would have missed him all over the news.
She even googled him and should have had alarms bells ringing over his invitations but now admits to having "poor judgement".

What I find atrocious is that she never mentioned his victims in her statement.

Is there more email to be released does any one know, concerning the princess ? hopefully not , I really hope it doesn't come to light who the man was that made her feel good again.

Rådet for psykisk helse (Council for Mental Health):
Crown Princess Mette-Marit is a high patron of the Council for Mental Health. The organization is now putting the collaboration with the Crown Princess on hold until further notice.
Secretary General Tove Gundersen points out that the Crown Princess is in a demanding situation and needs to gather herself.
– We think it is reasonable that she should receive this in this critical and serious situation. There will not be and are no planned activities and collaborations with the Crown Princess in 2026, says Gundersen.
She calls for more knowledge and insight into the relationship with convicted sex offender Epstein.
– We all strongly distance ourselves from cases of human trafficking, violence and sexual assault.

That’s a very mental health approach of dumping your patron (but somewhat patronizing as well): she is in a difficult situation and needs to gather herself.

I remember the NYT report on him in 2008. By 2010 w/Prince Andrew, everywhere.

The point for releasing the files is JUSTICE FOR THE VICTIMS. The victims, of whom there are MANY, are demanding transparency. Names of the men who abused them. It is too bad that many rich and powerful people received favors, helicopter rides and donations from Epstein. Having any association with Epstein is embarrassing. MM is embarrassed. It is the VICTIMS whose lives were ruined. The government heavily resisted releasing the files at all because so many important people were mentioned. Right now, our own Commerce Secretary has come under attack because his statements of not having any contact with Epstein after the first conviction were shown to be lies with emails from his wife arranging their family's visit to the island 5 years later.

Only 30% of the files have been released. It has been done in a very sloppy manner. Believe it or not, nude photos of the victims were also released by accident. Much was redacted that didn't have to be. It will all be released. Remember the girls, some as young as 14, who were groomed and then abused. It is for them. People keep worrying about the old men and this foolish princess.

The Norwegian Police Security Service PST will provide information about the service's bodyguard assignments following the revelations surrounding Mette-Marit's visit to Jeffrey Epstein.
The PST chief will meet the press today at 17.00. PST Chief Beate Gangås and Director of the Department for the Protection of Government Officials Hanne Finanger will brief on the service's bodyguard missions for Norwegian government officials and members of the royal family, says communications advisor Eirik Veum to NTB.
The background to the press briefing is a question Gangås received last week about whether PST has experienced that Mette-Marit's contact with Jeffrey Epstein has posed a security threat to the royal house - and whether the bodyguards should intervene against other unwanted incidents.

Hopefully for the embattled Crown Princess nothing to damming will emerge from this investigation!

The Court has sent a letter to MM's charities, apologizing on her behalf, reiterating that she didn't understand what kind of person Epstein was and that the aforementioned Google search did not change that. The charities mean a lot for MM and she'd like to explain in more detail but is unable to do so now.

As I see it, that's the first experience of the Norwegian court battling something that doesn't seem to be blowing away. It remains to be seen what MM's defense would be. Personally, I think it's good that they're finally showing that they acknowledge the problem. But the unable to explain right now part leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. There are actual victims but again, it's down to MM's fine sensitivities.

I suppose she can't complain of her "boring" life now. I hope she really tries to mend bridges in time and not some day in the far future, hoping that it will have been all forgotten and she won't ever have to. I can't see this as winning strategy. And I'm not even discussing the morality of it.

I suspect they're going to wait until Marius' trial is over and hope the Epstein clamour dies by then, so a faint "explanation", again explaining nothing, will suffice.

This afternoon, the head of the Federal Police, Beate Gangås, and the director of the Department for the Protection of Government Officials, Hanne Finanger, met with the press.
At this press conference, they explained the functions of the bodyguard service for Norwegian government officials and members of the royal family. (..)

Secrecy, evasive explanations and calculated moves threaten trust in the entire monarchy, says royal expert Tove Taalesen, who has worked at the Palace and written several books about the royal family. She is crystal clear about why she no longer trusts Mette-Marit. According to Taalesen, Mette-Marit has all the answers.
– She has spoken falsely about her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. She was confronted in 2019. Now seven years have passed. Still, she asks for more time. What will she spend that time on. She knows what she has written, who she has had contact with and to what extent. This has not come as a surprise to her. What is new is that this has become public.
Taalesen is touched by Haakon's emotional statement last Friday, but believes it was also carefully planned.
– He is obviously affected, and that is human. But this is also crisis management. He does not answer questions, he delivers a ready-made message. It is calculated.

MM googling Epstein and now claiming she didn't understand what kind of person he was is indeed a tall tale in my opinion.

Indeed. I wouldn't want to be the court's PR team at this time. I wonder what they can come up with to explain this and try to get some grace for MM from the public and the press - in my opinion, not a whole lot.

Who do they think they are fooling?? She understood exactly what was going on, only sorry that she was caught and called out.

I am glad the police and security officials gave this press conference. Speaking generally, it does not sit right with me when royal watchers argue "Royal Z couldn't have done X – they have bodyguards watching them all the time" or ask "How could their bodyguards have been so irresponsible as to let Royal Z do X"?

I have never worked as a protective officer, but my understanding (correct me if I'm mistaken) is that they are the employee, not the boss, and they do not have the authority to regulate their principal's conduct.

If anyone needs to be held responsible for a royal's conduct, other than the royal themself, it ought to be the head of state (the King) and/or the head of government (the Prime Minister), not a relatively low-ranking bodyguard.

Here is the letter Mette-Marit sent to her organizations (in Norwegian of course)

"The Crown Princess wishes to emphasize again that she was not aware of the extent and nature of the criminal offences for which Epstein had been convicted and had served time," the letter from Friday states.
"The aforementioned Google search does not change this," it is pointed out."

I read the actual letter, not the transcript.

It's not even a personal letter using MM's own words.

It's a bloody official letter written by her secretary with MM mentioned in third person, it can't get more official. MM didn't even bother to sign the letter.
In fact it says clearly in the letter that the letter is electronically approved and as such does not carry a signature.
Which means MM at best read through the letter and then approved it with her electronic ID.

A letter like that doesn't score high on the sincerity-scale.

Se og Hør transcribed the full letter:

Translated:

Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess has asked me to send this letter after what has recently come to light in the Epstein case.

The patronages mean a great deal to the Crown Princess. She is proud to be able to support the important work you do. The Crown Princess understands that many - including you - have reacted strongly to what has come to light.

The Crown Princess, in 2019, told of her contact and meetings with Epstein. It was a simple account of a relationship that lay some way back in time. She now sees the need for a more comprehensive account and wants to contribute to this to the best of her ability. She cannot do that now. The Crown Princess is in a very demanding situation, with several major challenges at the same time. She hopes for understanding that she needs time to collect herself.

If she had known during this time what is now known about Epstein, she would never have had contact with him. The Crown Princess wishes to emphasize again that she was unaware of the extent and nature of the criminal offenses Epstein had been convicted of and served time for. The mentioned Google search does not change this.

She wishes to take this opportunity to express her thanks both for the consideration and for the honesty in messages in recent days.

Best regards,
Gry Høeg Ulverud
Head of the royal secretariat

Transcript:

Hennes Kongelige Høyhet Kronprinsessen har bedt meg om å sende dette brevet etter det som har kommet fram den siste tiden i Epstein-saken.

Beskytterskapene betyr svært mye for Kronprinsessen.

Sjef Det kongelige sekretariat

Hmm, sounds like they are simply trying to fend off all MM's charities and patronages piling on and announcing they are dropping her all at once. I think they'll try to, at the very least, limit the exodus of charities to a slow trickle rather than a huge rush all at once.
The fact the letter is not even from MM personally says a lot.

Those horrible statements just show MM’s priorities. Most people going through hard times still have to prioritize work. And she has a whole country to answer to and somehow that can wait.
I can only imagine how hard Marius’ trial is on her mental state, but she doesn’t work now, is not on his defense team, so surely has some time to „explain herself”.
Not to mention that Epstein had been dead for over 6 years. That’s a lot of time to reflect on their friendship and conclude what she knew and what she missed (assuming she really didn’t know). The Crown Princess had years to „gather herself” so the explanation shouldn’t take long to prepare.

Amazed they actually wrote this:

'If she had known during this time what is now known about Epstein, she would never have had contact with him. The Crown Princess wishes to emphasize again that she was unaware of the extent and nature of the criminal offenses Epstein had been convicted of and served time for. The mentioned Google search does not change this.'

What do they even mean by 'The mentioned Google search does not change this'? It changes everything. His convictions were in the public arena and surely the google search brought that up.

The 'if she had known card' doesn't work, I am afraid.
