Today's date: May 1, 1920 at 14 died Crown Princess Margareta, or Daisy as she was called in the family, at the Royal Palace. She was 38 years old and was expecting her sixth child. She had been ill several times during the winter. On April 30, she had a high fever and suffered a general blood poisoning and heart failure. When Prime Minister Hjalmar Branting had finished his May Day speech, he hurried to the castle. There was organized a so-called blind cabinet meeting without the ruler's presence. All the ministers were deeply stirred and Branting said: "Now the sunbeam in the Royal Palace has gone." Few objects reminiscent of Margaret are saved in the Royal Armoury. Like her English rank crown. She was the daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Queen Victoria of Great Britain was her grandmother. Rank crown - which is showed - she wore when her uncle Edward VII's coronation in 1902.

It is at the same Event where they are pictured with Crown's Princess Parents and sister.

About crown princess Margareta's golf clubs, which she had used in the Swedish Championships in 1914 at the Råsunda Golf Course. Prince Daniel took the first shot with Margareta's club at the centenary celebrations for Råsunda Golf Course at Golfängarna in Sundbyberg on 1st September 2012. Margareta had bought the golf clubs in May 1905 from Lillywhites at Piccadilly in London before she moved to Sweden.

And died so young while pregnant with her sixth child, that's the tragedy of it!
 
Princess Margaret looks a lot like her uncle more than her father
 
Margaret and her sister Patsy were regarded as beauties in their day, perhaps inevitably, and they were expected, especially by their uncle King Edward VII who was very fond of both of them, to make splendid matches.

Margaret had the rather pouch-like cheeks and roundish face of her paternal family, I think. However, although her mother Louise of Prussia had a different shaped face, if you look at their eyes, nose and mouth mother and daughter were quite alike. Thank goodness Louise had passed on by the time Margaret died.

I've always been sad that her biography 'Darling Daisy' hasn't been translated from the Swedish. I'd love to know more about Margaret's life. I think she's forgotten, sadly, outside Sweden.

She looks like her uncle affie. Her sister is the image of their mother and brother their father

Håkan Groth, a swedish born antique dealer and expert, author and photographer at his Instagram, a photo of crown princess Margareta:
"A photo from Atelier Florman in Stockholm of Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden (1882-1920) in the official Swedish court dress signed and dated by her in 1906. She was a daughter of the Duke of Connaught, Queen Victoria’s youngest son who in 1905 married the future King Gustaf VI Adolf. She never became queen as she died of blood poisoning in 1920. Margaret, who is wearing the Connaught tiara is the grandmother of King Carl XVI Gustaf."

Malmö City Archive published yesterday in their Instagram a photo of crown princess Margareta
"Today, we greet Margareta on her name day; here represented by crown princess Margareta. She arrives in Malmö on June 1, 1908. As the Duchess of Skåne, it was considered appropriate that just she participated in the city's Roskilde Festival on the 250th anniversary of peace in Roskilde. But why is she wearing black dress? King Oskar II had died in December 1907, so probably it's the reason."

In the fall of 2020, the exhibition will open about the dynamic and popular Crown Princess Margareta who has come to change the image of the royal house into our day.
A hundred years have passed since our present king's grandmother passed away quickly. Who was she, this for her time so modern but for many unknown member of the royal family?
The exhibition which opens in the fall of 2020 celebrates her joy of life and her deeds for Sweden.
On site in the part of the Royal Palace that was once her apartment, will be displayed for the first time, material from the archives and unique objects from the royal collections belonging to the Crown Princess.
The exhibition will be displayed October 1, 2020 - March 7, 2021 at the Royal Palace.
Crown Princess Margareta (1882–1920), called Daisy by family and friends, embraced her new life in Sweden and her arrival meant that the view of royal people changed. She wanted to make a difference for people in her new home country and was actively involved in many of the greatest social issues of her time.
From her upbringing as a granddaughter to British Queen Victoria, she carried with her solid interests in art, sports and garden, and which shaped her identity as a popular Crown Princess in Sweden.

At Sofiero Palace, from 9th April to 20th September

In the Footsteps of Crown Princess Margareta
This year marks one hundred years since the death of Crown Princess Margareta. During the early 1900s the Crown Princess spent her summers at the Palace and she is one of the most important figures in the history of Sofiero. Her passion for gardening, together with her artistic talents and ambitious nature created the groundwork for the palace gardens at Sofiero. Margareta and Crown Prince Gustav Adolf received Sofiero as a wedding gift in 1905. Margareta worked tirelessly to help bring Sofiero back to life and began by creating the beautiful and impressive gardens that we see today.
2020 is the year that we will honour the memory of Crown Princess Margareta and all of her efforts. In a special tribute, we have organised guided tours, a memorial exhibition in the Rhododendron house and different signage in the park highlighting her gardening legacy.

Princess Margaret of Great Britain and Ireland was born in January 1882 at Bagshot Park in Surrey, England. She was the daughter of the Duke couple of Connaught. Her grandmother was Queen Victoria of Great Britain.⠀⠀⠀⠀
Princess Margareta married Prince Gustaf (VI) Adolf in 1905. The couple had five children, of whom the eldest, hereditary prince Gustaf Adolf, became the father of King Carl XVI Gustaf and daughter, Ingrid, became Danish queen and mother of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
During the winter of 1919-1920, when the thirty-seven-year-old Crown Princess was expecting her sixth child, she had been ill several times, which diminished her powers. Crown Princess Margareta died at the Royal Palace on May 1, 1920.

I think her descendants who look most like CP Margareta are Princess Birgitta, Queen Anne-Marie, and Princess Josephine. JMHO

She was on her eight month of pregnancy, according to this article about princess Christina and her book about her grandmother.

Few items reminiscent of Margareta have been saved in the Royal Armoury. One such, however, is her crown. She was the daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, and Queen Victoria of Great Britain was her grandmother. The crown - which is on display in the museum's new base exhibition - she wore at the coronation of Edvard VII in 1902.
The burial took place on Ascension Day. The photographs are signed by Theodor Modin, reportage photographer, working as a freelancer in Stockholm's daily press. He became known for appearing on dramatic occasions on his motorcycle. The flower-covered coffin was drawn by The Royal Stables' horses, the Royal Palace in the background. When the people looked at the funeral procession, the atmosphere was unforgettable and gripping, the Stockholms-Tidningen reported.
In the Stockholms-Tidningen, the Royal House and Gustaf Adolf also thanked the tribute with the following words: “Since I cannot personally reach each individual, I now bring the warmest thanks from myself and my children to you all, who have in one way or another shown your participation and thus relieved the grief. Last but not least, I express my deep gratitude for the tribute that has been so touchingly devoted to the memory of the best wife and mother”.

Crown Princess Margareta is buried at Haga, but has a Coat of Arms at a special place in the Riddarholm church, the so-called Haga wall. Crown Princess Margaret's Coat of Arms is unique in that it is not a seraphim shield. She was never delivered the Order of the Seraphim before she died. Instead of the Order of the Seraphim's chain around her Coat of Arms, there is a heraldic wreath of her favorite flower Daisy, in Swedish margueriter.

It seems the Order of the Seraphim was only given to female mb mers of the The Royal Family since 1908 when Queen Victoria and Queen Sofia got it. Queen Louise got it after her husband became King and then in 1952 it was given to princess Siblylla, Pricness Ingeborg and the sisters of the present King.
