From tomorrow, October 15 to 17, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are visiting Korea, accompanied by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson, and a business delegation representing 15 Swedish companies.
Sweden and South Korea share a close, dynamic and long relationship. 75 years ago, Sweden sent a field hospital to Busan to support the Republic of Korea. And every day since July 1953 Swedish officers have been present at the border to North Korea to support peace on the Korean peninsula.
Today, around 130 Swedish companies are operating in Korea creating roughly 13,000 jobs, with well-known brands such as H&M, Arket, Volvo, Spotify, Fjällräven, IKEA and more!

Victoria and Daniel visited the demilitarized zone where soldiers are constantly on high alert. Since the end of the Korean War, the Swedish Armed Forces, in the framework of the Neutral Nations Supervision Commission (NNSC), have had personnel in the border region between North and South Korea. Since 1995 the Swedes in the NNSC have only worked on the South Korean side.
On the way to the border position, Victoria could see an enormous North Korean flag at the top of a 160-meter-long flagpole in Kijŏng-dong.
There were signs on the North Korean side during the visit. A large sign directed at South Korea announced "We will defend our revolution". Another sign praised the country's Juche ideology and philosophy of being self-sufficient, with the words "Independence". Another sign urged hope with the words "Love the future!"

Andreas Carlson, the Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, published at his Instagram stories this photo of him with Victoria, Daniel and the Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard.

Victoria's speech at the dinner, she said among other things:
As open, trade-dependent countries, Sweden and the Republic of Korea share the conviction that an open global economy is vital. During this visit, we have seen great potential to further strengthen collaboration between our industries - particularly in the green transition, research and innovation and in emerging strategic technologies. We need each other to find new solutions to common challenges, and we rely on each other to remain competitive.
