Some Crown Prince family news will be a week late from now on. Why? Because Sankei moved its Imperial Weekly publish date/time from Saturday 6am to Friday 6am. Unfortunately, the CP household's regular press conference is on Friday.

At the disability center, the students demonstrated "Boccia." [Sankei Imperial Weekly #550]

CP Naruhito will visit France September 7-15 for the 160th anniversary of French-Japanese relations. The IHA says CP Masako was invited as well but she will not accompany him due to medical treatment and domestic public service schedule in the autumn.

CP Naruhito will arrive in Lyon on the 7th, have lunch with the mayor on the 8th, and fly to Paris on the 10th. On the 13th, he will attend Japonismes 2018 festival and a lighting ceremony of the Eiffel Tower.

Agenda also includes wineries, research facilities, Grenoble, kabuki performance, Versailles, Japanese schools, museums, facilities for disabled people, Itō Jakuchū exhibition, and meeting Japanese residents.

Masako not going was expected although I had slim hopes...

ETA: Crown prince to visit France in Sept. to mark diplomatic ties - The Mainichi
[...] Initial plans by the Imperial Household Agency for Crown Princess Masako to accompany her husband at the invitation of France were shelved due to a scheduling conflict.

[...] While the crown prince visited France when he was studying at Britain's Oxford University, it will be his first official visit to the country. [...]

Japan's Crown Prince to visit France in September - News - NHK WORLD - English
The Imperial Household Agency says Crown Princess Masako will stay at home, as the long trip and other domestic events planned in September may be a burden on her health.
I wonder what are the September events the IHA have planned for Masako? Can't be the garden party, that's usually in October or November.

Maybe Princesses Tsuguko and Ayako were hidden...
Imagine needing to show up just because your relative is going on a business trip.

Hehehe. It's Japan. They love ceremony. It's not required although I think the family try to attend if possible. I appreciate these send offs because they provide another opportunity to see the extended members.

To be fair, he's not just a random relative, he's the very soon-to-be emperor, which I suspect has something to do with the heightened level of ceremony. Usually these send-offs from Togu Palace seem to be Princess Masako and possibly Princess Aiko, so this send-off appears to be pulling out the stops.

And, on a side note, does anyone else think that Prince Akishino is not looking very well? I hope the stress of assuming the role of Crown Prince, and the preparations and changes attached to that are not proving too burdensome.

Prince Akishino seems fine to me. Perhaps it's the lighting or photo quality?

Send-offs seem to be regular procedures for the Emperor and Crown Prince. Admittedly, I haven't seen any for other Imperial houses. Media tends to focus on Masako and cuts off or misses everyone else.
