Born 11 March 1961 as the 3rd son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and his 3rd wife Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi

Sheikh Mohammed graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1979.
He became Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in November 2004 on the death of his father;
he was appointed Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces in January 2005.
Later that month, he was promoted to the rank of General.
Since December 2004 he has been Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
He also serves as a Special Advisor to the President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, his older brother and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
He sits on the Abu Dhabi Executive Council which is responsible for the development and planning of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
He is Head of the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development.
Crown Prince Mohammed is next in line to become President of the United Arab Emirates after his brother HH Sheikh Khalifa.
