Message from the King and Queen on the completion of the 6-month military service of Crown Prince Christian and his companions.
Today, the Crown Prince and his companions are completing their military service. Everyone should be proud of having completed military service – it commands respect.

On Family Day in March, at Antvorskov Barracks, we had the pleasure of meeting several of the recruits and their families.

We congratulate them all on completing their military service.

The Royal Couple

A lovely message from the Royal Couple to mark not only his completion of boot camp but also his fellow recruits. What an accomplishment for all!
Something earned!

And nice pic of Mary with the female recruits. A powerful photo. Mary can say she too has done some training.
Great photo! Queen Mary has done years of education and training in the Home Guard. Good for her.

Crown Prince Christian will continue his education in the Armed Forces today:

On 11 August 2025, the Crown Prince will return to Antvorskov Barracks in Slagelse, where His Royal Highness will continue his military training at the Lieutenant's Training Course. The training lasts one year plus a subsequent period of practical service as a platoon leader.

And his starting today was marked on the official calendar.
Glad he was able to arrive on the first day as one more recruit.

but from the press release there will be an opportunity for the press on August 14
"The Crown Prince's first day at the Lieutenant's Training cannot be covered by the press, but the Danish Armed Forces invites the press to a short session on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the barracks. Here, it will be possible for photographers to cover the mustering before today's shooting exercise. In addition, representatives from the Danish Armed Forces will be on hand to answer general questions regarding the training."

Let us hope Christian enjoys getting up at dawn. Because as NCO and group leader he will be required to be dressed and ready when his recruits are woken up and he will be in bed later than his recruits as well. Often attending platoon meetings late in the evening. And tending to his uniform and equipment will usually also be after the recruits have been tucked in for the night.

The announced meeting with the press at the barracks in Slagelse took place this morning, August 14:

Has it been reported, or seen on a name tag, what name he uses in the military?

Just Christian. Says on his name tag.

The training Christian is on will end in 10-11 months with him graduating as lieutenant. After that he will return to his regiment to take command of a platoon of conscripts. He will as such be a part of the mobilization force.
Or, which is likely, he will go to the military academy for more advanced training aimed at those who wish to become career officers. There he will graduate as first lieutenant. And now he is a professional soldier.

Another video of CP Christian

Some great videos and photos from press day. While it is nice to ger the photos/videos, it is good that he is then allowed to just get to his training like all the others. His every move does not need to be documented and posted.

Now the European heirs and heiresses of a similar age, Christian, Elisabeth, Leonor (and Amalia will probably start soon; I will leave that to the Dutch thread), have all started or completed their military training. It feels surreal, as if it were only yesterday that we were watching their parents’ weddings and celebrating their births.

Nevermind reading the "article" but some very nice photos of Christian in uniform. He carries the uniform well.

especially this one. Would love to know more about the badge on his arm. Im guessing the "logo" for the group. Sorry my military speak is limited : )

what I love is that he is just like every other member of the unit. No special treatment. No additional badges or anything just because he's the heir.

Here is an article stating that he will not get any special treatment. The only exception for him is if/when he has to be regent. I assume that means that if he has to leave the base for something related to his being regent. Otherwise, he is just like every other member of the unti.

That's the badge of the battalion he belongs to as far as I can tell. His regimental (Guards Hussars) badge is on his beret, correctly placed above his left eye.

And yes, when he is Regent, matters of state comes first. And as he is also acting commander-in-chief, they can't really keep him there. After all he will temporarily outrank everybody else-

Thank you. The first two links I clicked on did not clearly display the name tag, but I see it now in the Getty Images gallery abovethread.

So, Crown Prince Christian is following the military naming example of his fellow Glücksburg, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway. I still suspect that the reason the Glücksborgs of Denmark and the Glücksburgs of Norway are the lone holdouts amongst the reigning families of Europe when it comes to using the dynasty name as a surname is some sense of loyalty to the former royal family of Greece, who have been insisting for decades that they are not really named Glücksburg.

Yes, the beret is pulled down to the right, so the only place the badge can be placed and seen is to the left and in order to look neat, the badge is located above the left eye. - Neat and orderly as befits the army.
It's not like, for example the navy, where they often tend to dress like brigands.

Great photos! He even got a visit from King Frederik. Is it me, or has Christian gotten even taller?

Lovely caption to the photos written by the Crown Prince -
Today a boy's dream came true.
I had the opportunity to get on one of the last training flights in an F-16 aircraft - and wow, it was crazy.
Soon the new F-35s will take over and I am very thankful that I made it.
I already had great respect for the pilots who fly our fighter jets, and after today, it has only gotten bigger.
It was a huge experience - and lovely that my dad stopped by Skrydstrup after today's flight.

Loved seeing the video.

Indeed, among the very last flights in a F-16 - two-seat trainer. No more pilots to be trained in flying F-16s.
In Denmark that is.
Some of our F-16s went to Ukraine. But the remaining, except for a couple destined for museums, will go to South America. That was part of a defense-deal by the Biden administration. The reason being that China was courting various South American countries, including offering weapons. So USA stepped in and various allies, including DK, were basically ordered to hand over their F-16s once the F-35s were operational and in DK that's around New Year.

I don’t think so. They never used the name Glücksburg as a surname as far as I know. It seems to align with the tradition that royals do not have a regular surname like commoners or nobility.

I saw some videos on YouTube of Danish pilots being trained in Texas. I imagine that they will be assigned to F-35 squadrons after they graduate.

The pictures of Christian are just wonderful.
Loved that we got a mini interview from him and a message direct from him.
The photo of him and Frederik is lovely.

Love that he has been doing his training step by step and that he get a glimpse.
He just looks like he fits in.

They will. We permanently have six F-35s in USA for training pilots and mechanics.

Crown Prince Christian will serve with the Royal Life Guards from August 2026 on, it was announced today, January 23:

HRH The Crown Prince will serve in the Royal Life Guards Share

Following the completion of His Royal Highness The Crown Prince's lieutenant's training in June 2026, the Crown Prince will serve in the Royal Life Guards.

The Crown Prince's service in the Royal Life Guards will be as a platoon leader for conscripted privates on call-up duty in August 2026 at the Guards Barracks in Høvelte.

Facts about HRH The Crown Prince's military training

February 2025: HRH The Crown Prince began his military service in the Guards Hussar Regiment.

August 2025: HRH The Crown Prince started his lieutenant's training.

June 2026: HRH The Crown Prince will continue his service as a platoon leader in the Royal Life Guards.

Yes, as the final part of his education to become an officer he will lead a platoon of conscripts. - In many ways it will actually be the professional senior platoon NCO who will train Christian in the practical details of leading a platoon. Upon completion he will be promoted from lieutenant to first lieutenant and that means and audience with his dad upon graduation.
As a platoon leader he will lead his platoon in the field on exercises. He will be the administrative leader. He will evaluate the conscripts under his command. He will plan training and exercises. He will ultimately be responsible for his platoon being up to standard. - I'm sure Christian will be allocated a very experienced sergeant and if his dad hasn't already drilled it into his head, he will learn: Do listen to your sergeant!

But, some of you will ask, Christian is a Guards Hussar. What's he doing in the Royal Lifeguard?!? That's standard for fledgling lieutenants. In order to avoid nepotism within a regiment they are mostly put in charge of a platoon in another regiment and also to throw them out in the deep end.

But what if Christian messes up and his platoon is turned into an under-performing circus? Two things he could be allowed to try again later if there are good reasons for it. Otherwise it's goodbye military career.

So, how long would this stage as platoon leader be? 6 months? A year? At some point, I assume, he will also be expected to start university studies...

As this is a part of his education, it will last for a little longer than the bootcamp for the conscripts, which AFAIK is now three months.
Later on he may, like his father, be a platoon commander for professional troops, if he stays in the military, which I believe is likely.
I believe Christian will stay on long enough to become a captain. Then he will leave only to return later and attend the first part of staff officers school finishing as major.
