Name: Christian II

Birth: July 1, 1481

Child of: King Hans and Christina of Saxony

Reign: 1513-1523 (Denmark/Norway), 1520-1521 (Sweden)

Marriage: 1515 to Isabella of Habsburg

Children: Hans, Maximilian, Filip, Dorothea & Christine (ancestor of Queen Louise who married Frederik 8.)

Death: January 25, 1559.

Throne passed to: Frederik I (his uncle)

Notes:
As he was serving as the viceroy to Norway, he met a woman who would become his mistress, Dyveke, in Bergen.

Remembered as Christian the Tyrant in Sweden, because of his involvement in the Stockholm bloodbath.

The only Danish king to have survived his successors.

Due to an uprising in the nobility he was dethroned and imprisoned.

Child of: Philip I and Joanna of Castile

Death: 19 January 1526 - 24 years old.

Notes: Was offered to stay in Denmark when her husband was deposed, but went with him into exile.
 
Oh, I didn't realize that Isabella was the daughter of Juana La Loca. Does anyone know whether that brought any mental instability into the DRF?

Considering that none of their children inherited the throne, it would be difficult :ermm: I think that by the time their descendants would have come to the throne (Christian X) any mental instability inherited from Juana La Loca, might have been pretty diluted genetically. :flowers:
 
Can anyone give me more info on Isabella? Any history would be useful and much appreciated.

"Isabella of Austria (also known as Isabella or Elisabeth of Burgundy, of Habsburg, or of Castile) (18 July1501–19 January1526), Archduchess of Austria, Infanta of Castile and Princess of Burgundy by birth and Queen of Denmark, Sweden and Norway by her marriage to King Christian II, was the daughter of Philip I and Joanna of Castile and the sister of Emperor Charles V. She was born at Brussels.
On 11 July 1514 Isabella was married by proxy to King Christian II of Denmark with Emperor Maximilian, her grandfather, standing in for the king. A year later, the Archbishop of Norway was sent to escort her to Copenhagen. The marriage was ratified on 12 August1515.
Isabella was crowned Queen of Denmark and given the name Elisabeth, but the relationship between her family and king Christian was quite cool during the first year of the marriage. The King's Dutch mistress, Dyveke Sigbritsdatter, had been with him since 1507, and he was not about to give her up for a teenaged girl.
This angered the Emperor, and caused some diplomatic strife between him and King Christian, but the matter was resolved when Dyveke died in 1517, and Isabella's relationship with her husband improved vastly over the next few years.
She bore him three children, Hans, Christina and Dorothea, and when king Christian was deposed in 1523 by disloyal noblemen supporting his aging uncle Duke Frederick, the new king wanted to be on good terms with her family. He wrote her a personal letter in her native German, offering her a dowager queen's pension and permitting her to stay in Denmark under his protection while king Christian fled to the Netherlands.
But Isabella wrote back to duke Frederick in Latin, stating that "ubi rex meus, ibi regna mea", that is "where my king is, there is my kingdom". She then left Denmark with her husband and their children. The young queen died at Ghent at just twenty-four years of age.
Note: Isabella's first daughter was the Christina, Duchess of Milan made famous in Holbein's portrait, painted when Henry VIII of England was looking for his fourth wife. Her younger daughter, Dorothea, married Frederik II, Elector of Palatine.
It is said that the daughter of Denmark's Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary, Princess Isabella, is named after her."
 
Thank You very much for the info. Would you, by chance, happen to know what crest &/or coat of arms she would have used? Possibly her father's? but which one...he had 3 or 4 that I have been able to find, but I have not been able to find info on the arms women would have used...

how did Dyveke died? it sounds very convinience her death
 
My guess would be her cause of death remains unknown.
 
funny that wikipedia says that Christine was the eldest daughter. She wasnt she was the youngest and Dorothea was the oldest,
Btw Christines decendant were the emperors of Austria.

Where would i find a family tree showing the Queen of Denmarks descent from Christian II ?
 
I spy a Habsburg lower lip looming there on Isabella. Unmistakable!
 
On November 1, 1521 the representatives of the Swedish nation swore fealty to King Christian II as hereditary king of Sweden. The law of the land distinctly provided that Sweden was an elective monarchy.
 
King Christian II and Queen Isabella were the parents of twins Philip Ferdinand and Maximilian. It was nice to see that the twins had the names of Habsburg relatives.
 
Queen Margrethe II cited Isabella of Habsburg in her speech during the recent Belgian state visit dinner as Isabella, one of sisters of the Holy Roman Emperor (and King of Spain) Charles V / I, was born in Brussels (then part of the Burgundian Netherlands).

The 3 surviving children of Christian II and Isabella of Austria were taken by their Hapsburg relations and raised in the Low Countries by their grandaunt Margaret of Austria and after her death their maternal aunt Mary of Hungary. All 3 were raised Roman Catholic.
