Ok, let me clear things up. When Laura Bush wore the red dress to the Christmas party, it was a dress made by Oscar De La Renta. It's was a Ready-To-Wear dress. Oscar De La Renta is mainly worn by women who are over 45. Oscar does have youthful dresses. However, it's mainly targeted for women who in their 40s and upwards. It's not the designer's fault that three women wore the same dress. If it was couture (which means that there's only one design that was made), then the designer might be sued for making another version of the same dress.
Anyway, I think Charlotte is a really good dresser. I think that Karl Lagerfeld is an amazing, legendary desinger. I think it's Charlotte who really wants to dress older than her age. Karl creates a lot of youthful dresses for both his Chanel and Fendi lines. For example, here are Chanel dresses that Sienna Miller, Lindsay Lohan and Cameron Diaz wore last Thursday for a Chanel party in Los Angeles. All these Chanel dresses are fun and flirty.

I can totally picture Charlotte in one of those dresses.
On the other hand, Karl also creates dresses for the mature women (targeted for women over 35). But, it's Charlotte who decides that she wants to wear this particular design. Karl must have shown Charlotte tons of dresses to choose from. It wasn't like it was a particular dress that Karl had in mind. Charlotte probably wants to be taken seriously. I mean, she is taken seriously. But, she wants to prove that she's mature by dressing maturely.
Speaking of desigers, I think Versace isn't a good choice for Charlotte. Versace, Roberto Cavalli and all these other Milan-based designers aren't good for her becuase they're too flashy in a way. What I mean is that they don't suit everyone. These kind of dresses will no doubt look amazing on Charlotte. But, I don't think that she can pull it off. The Dolce and Gabbana dress that she wore to Camilla Al-Fayed's (The Egyptian daughter of Harrods' owner, Mohammed Al-Fayed) party looked good on here because it was simple and understated. If it was an over-the-top Dolce dress, she couldn't have pulled it off. I think classic designers like Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Valentino and all these other kind of classic designers look best on her. I also think that American designers can look good on her. Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Donna Karan and even Marc Jacobs can look good on her. Unlike Italian fashion houses, New York-based desingers create crisp, clean cluts that can look good on Charlotte.
Speaking of Karl Lagerfeld, he's good friends with Lindsay Lohan. I always imagine Lindsay asking him of Charlotte. Anyway, look at how he dresses Lindsay when she's with him. It's what Lindsay picks. As I said, it's them who choose the dress they want to wear. I think Charlotte wants to be like her mother.
Here are pictures of Lindsay with Karl:

Charlotte can look cute in Chanel too!
