Celebrations for the Accession of Grand Duke Guillaume V: October 3 - 5, 2025

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I'm also seeing Henri's siblings Jean and Marie-Astrid.

Two observations:
It seems King Philippe appeared to have been suffering from a cold or had a cough. I noticed even in the morning videos his dear wife reaching in her Dior purse to hand him a cough drop/lozenge.
Does King Willem-Alexander not own a comparible military suit? King Philippe wore his but King W-A is just in a tux?
The Dutch King does not wear military uniforms as a general rule of thumb. He does wear a ceremonial uniform with no rank insignia for Veterans Day parade.

Exactly, the king of the Netherlands only wears a (ceremonial) military uniform for military occasions (described in this Staatsbesluit). As monarch he is no longer part of the military, and therefore doesn't wear the uniform at other times.

The celebrations of the abdication and accession are capped off today with a Te Deum church service, starting now at 11 a.m.

Watch the livestream here:

See the program for the service (in Luxembourgish only) here. The livestream is also available on this page.

About the event:

“In the presence of members of the Grand Ducal Family, members of the Government, members of Parliament, as well as representatives of the Council of State, the judiciary, the municipal council of Luxembourg City, and the diplomatic corps, a solemn Mass with Te Deum is celebrated under the presidency of the Archbishop of Luxembourg, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Luxembourg (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg).”

Recordings of Day 1 and Day 2’s events are online still.

Anyone who wants to congratulate Grand Duke Guillaume or Grand Duke Henri can do so at the online congratulatory book:

The page also includes information about donating to the new “‘Fondation du Grand-Duc Guillaume et de la Grande-Duchesse Stéphanie’ which aims to help the most vulnerable citizens” for those who wish to send a gift.

Anyone else find it odd that Gabriel and Noah haven’t been to any of the events?

Attendance seems to be limited to children and children-in-law of current and former monarchs. Grand Duke Henri’s nieces and nephews have not attended either, apparently.

I'm also seeing Henri's siblings Jean and Marie-Astrid.

Before the Grand Dukes’ arrival at Glacis, the livestreamer mentioned the event was waiting for Their Imperial and Royal Highnesses Archduke Carl Christian and Archduchess Marie-Astrid of Austria and His Serene Highness Prince Nikolaus and Her Royal Highness Princess Margaretha of Liechtenstein (I am going from memory, but I think that is how she referred to them).

ETA: However, Princes Félix and Louis are accompanied by their children at the Te Deum.

Gabriel, Noah and Felix's older children are at the Te Deum today

RTL Luxembourg have a live page where you can watch the live stream at the top from the beginning.

It seems the children of Henri's siblings are also present today at the church service.

I hope a translation of the remarks will be available at some point. If not, are there any members who could summarize?

Are Grand Duke Henri's siblings present? I have trouble seeing who is sitting in the last row of the "royal box".

Everyone (Henri's children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews) is present at the Te Deum today, Henri's siblings were present at the concert last night.

Alexandra and her husband are absent but that is likely due to her being so close to giving birth.

MT is sitting while the rest of the congregation are standing, how interesting.

Much better clothing choices today by everyone IMO and nice to see Stephanie in a hat for church.

Here are some photos and videos of today:

Looks like great celebrations. I wasn't able to watch but have seen some pictures now

Amazing turnout for this Te Deum. I spotted Imre and Kathleen Habsburg, as well as a large contingent of the Liechtenstein Princely family including Nikolaus and Margretha and their two daughters with their spouses.

I also saw quite a few of the de Lannoys including Stephanie's sister Gaelle, who is godmother to Prince Charles and a member of a lay religious order.

The music for the liturgy of the Mass was glorious...heavy on Mozart just like Guillaume and Stephanie's Nuptial Mass back in 2012.

Pope Leo XIV sent a beautiful prayer for Guillaume and imparted his Apostolic Blessing to the Grand Ducal family and to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

I expected it to be read at the conclusion of the Mass, and I was surprised when it wasn't.

The grand-ducal house has recaps and photo galleries of the three days of abdication and accession commemorations:

The three days of livestreams are available for replay:

About the Te Deum church service, according to the Wort liveblog posted by iceflower:

The archdiocese announced that 712 guests were invited to the Te Deum, including 240 people from the general public, choir members, about 35 clergy and 24 members of the administrative service.

The prayer for the grand-ducal family began: “Fir de Grand-Duc Guillaume, d’Grande-Duchesse Stéphanie, déi ganz Groußherzoglech Famill, wéi fir all déi […]”. It really seems that Guillaume is trying to minimize usage of his regnal number V as far as possible.

They are in the box opposite

Thanks. I wonder why Margaretha and husband were seated in the front row of that box along with Marie-Astrid and husband, while Jean and wife were with Guillaume and wife in the back row. I know that Jean and Margaretha are twins, but is Jean not the older twin and thus higher in the order of precedence?

Is it because Jean’s marriage was unapproved and therefore his wife is not a member of the Grand-Ducal House (even though Henri seems to have promoted her to Princess, that does not automatically make her a member of the Grand-Ducal House according to the house law), unlike (presumably) the husbands of Marie-Astrid and Margaretha?

Alexandra and her husband are absent but that is likely due to her being so close to giving birth.

Thanks. I wonder if any of them attended the first two days as private citizens amongst the crowd? Were there any members of the further extended family (descendants of Grand Duke Jean’s siblings and aunts)?

Will Prince Charles be Hereditary Grand Duke after the swearing-in of his father or will there be another ceremony?

Charles will automatically gain the titles of Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg and Hereditary Prince of Nassau at the moment his father is sworn in and (legally) becomes Grand Duke. See here for more information:

... Or not? My previous answer was based on what is stated by the law, but apparently something else has happened.

See here for further information and discussion:

Then again... Perhaps they are following the (new 2023 constitutional) law after all? Elaborated on this here: Titles, Styles and Names of the Grand Ducal Family

More photos of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess who participated this Sunday – along with their family – in the Te Deum Mass celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich.

This ceremony concludes the celebrations surrounding the change of throne.

Some pictures from the gala dinner on Maria Teresas Instagram:

Very nice behind the scenes pictures! Especially love the group pics of the five siblings and the Benelux ladies.

Maybe she figured that she's so short that nobody will notice if she's standing up or sitting down.

I liked this interview with Guillaume where he talks about his love for cooking. That is the first time I hear about a royal who likes to cook
King Carl Gustav is both an enthusiastic and a skilled cook. His sister, Princess Birgitta, has said that he's very good at making sauces and he has a pasta machine that he uses regularly.

One thing must be said. Whoever is responsible for selecting the right photos for the press is doing a great job. I assume it is the court's press department. They really cover all events and have selected the best moments. Very well done!

Point de Vue published information about the Gala menu. It included sea bass, lobster tartare and veal tournedos..mainly French cuisine with Italian wines.

It sounds incredibly scrumptious. I don't know how those people manage to dine on such rich haute cuisine and avoid indigestion.😋

Did any of Grand Duchess Stephanie's Lannoy nephews and nieces attend the Te Deum?

I saw Gaelle de Lannoy at the Te Deum. I am sure that there were at least a few others.

It’s strange that Prince Jean’s ex wife gets invited to these kinds of things but not Prince Louis’s

Gaelle de Lannoy is her sister. The only sibling who didn’t attend the festivities on Friday.

Right, I know that Gaelle is Stephanie's sister and godmother to Charles. She is a member of a lay religious order.

guess she only attended the Te Deum.

No, it really isn't if you understand the amount of bad will Tessy's split with Louis generated in the Grand Ducal family.
Particularly with Maria Teresa.😟

Gabriel recently has started university, I suppose somewhere in Great Britain, Noah is still at boarding school in GB, probably at the same school that Gabriel attended.
I'm pretty sure he's enrolled at a University in Italy. Tessy was there just a few weeks ago with Louis. He was supposed to do a gap year in Australia and/or New Zealand, and stated he planned to attend university in America.

Grand Duke Guillaume's nieces and nephews for the first two days were probably just hanging out back at Berg, alongside Princess Alexandra and Grand Duke Henri's nieces and nephews. Although, I suspect some of them were in the crowds and seated elsewhere for day 2 events.

Did anyone see Grand Duchess Maria Teresa's sister? Her nieces and nephews were sitting behind the de Nassau cousins.

Exactly! Tessy not being invited despite being Noah and Gabriel's Mom, is her doing and only her fault. Prince Jean's ex wife is always invited to weddings etc to this day.

It looks like all the cousins and their spouses showed up to support their cousins, how lovely!

I wonder if Felix and Claire supplied any wines from their reserve
