British State Visit to the Holy See: October 22 - 23, 2025

According to Sky News, the King was given a chair, and the Pope was given a framed photo of the King and Queen!
Hope is not one of the chairs Trump and Zelensky sat on during the previous Pope's funerals, with the American Pope telling king Charles "please get that out of here" :giggle:

Framed photos seem to be a UK royals gift tradition, not sure if it started with QEII. I recall the late queen's visit to the Vatican and she went in a full royal spectacular attire with a tiara and jewels worth a 17th chapel if needed. She wore all black and her mantilla head cover was transparent enough to be held in place by the tiara. I wish Camilla would have done the same, too.

But then there was a very different dresscode with Prince Philip in Uniform and Orders and medals. This was also the Case for other royals making official Visits to the Vatican. But unfortunately this dresscode has long gone. I actually think the dresscode today was bit more formal than under Pope Francis

You are talking about a bygone era, even QEII didn't wear a tiara for her last papal meetings. She even didn't wear black for the last one !

Yes, this feels like a bit inbetween the very formal gown and tiara with mantilla QEII wore on her first visit vs the purple day coat and hat she wore for her visit to Pope Francis. Much more like the outfit QE2 wore to visit Pope John Paul II in 2000.
