British Royal Christmas 2: Sep 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.

I'm pleased to see both Beatrice and Eugenie there. They've been put in a difficult position, but there's no reason for them not to join the others. Also nice to see so many of the children there.

And snow has fallen in Jersey, which is a bit different because the Channel Islands are usually the warmest places in the British Isles!

Good to see that both Eugenie and Beatrice attending. Think i could also spot Earl Snowdown with his children
I think its odd that they would leave their parents to spend Christmas with their uncle. They have children too, surely any normal person would choose the day with parents/grandparents all together. Beatrice did it last year too. Obviously being seen with the wider royal family must be more important to them.

Completely agree Sophie.

Here are some more photos of today's Christmas Service:

I think everyone should do as they want on Christmas Day, so if Beatrice and Eugenie would rather be at Sandringham then so be it. I guess for years they did the Sandringham Christmas then had Christmas after with Sarah so in that sense its nothing new for them.

That said the point that they are still welcome in the RF is well made now and doesn’t require any further public imaging to underline IMO (if that is why they are attending)

I guess we don’t know how Beatrice and Eugenie feel about their parents, maybe they feel more comfortable at Sandringham than spending the day at Royal Lodge. Who knows.

Lovely to see everyone, I wonder if we’ll ever see Camilla’s family on Christmas Day at Sandringham or not.

Thank you to all who have posted the videos and photos. Did anyone happen to see Wolfie Mapelli-Mozzi this year?

I think it was a wise choice for the York princesses to join the wider British royal family for this public occasion. They can surely find the time to visit their parents privately for the holidays.

It is also consistent with their seeming effort over the past few months to put some public distance between themselves and their parents:

According to the Hello Magazine article, none of the three Mapelli Mozzi children were present.

Well I doubt they spent Christmas without them but as a co parenting unit, Wolfe is with them every other year, and the girls too young to attend church.

Savannah and Isla were also not there given the alternating Christmases. They seem to have been on a skiing holiday with Dad and aunt and uncle and cousins last week.

I agree, the point is definitely made about how both Beatrice and Eugenie are welcome as part of the RF. And of course we have no idea how/when/if they will see one or both of their parents. In my own family this is the year my daughter’s in-laws get Christmas Day so we celebrated yesterday on Christmas Eve. Next year it will be reversed. Celebrating on different days throughout the season is commonplace, I think, due to distances people may have to travel as well as some having their children every other year perhaps due to divorce.

This is so well said. The girls should spend Christmas as they want to. Sandringham Christmas is a long time tradition of theirs. It’s also an opportunity to spend time with their extended family.

I assume Charles siblings, their families, and cousins, etc all enjoy the opportunity to get together over the holidays since they continue to do so even after HLM’s death.

Regarding their parents- maybe they did Christmas earlier- or will do it later. Who knows. It’s not unusual though for family get togethers to be spread out as needed. And who knows how they feel about their parents anyway.

Anyway it’s nice to see them with the family.

Family traditions evolve, thus I too was surprised that they chose to be w/ the wider RF rather than their parents & of course now there are in laws in the mix. Particularly given the fact that their mother always made a big deal of how she’d wait nearby for them to finish at the ‘big house’ 🤷‍♀️.
I suppose there’s something to be said for wanting to allow their children time w/ their cousins, although their children are very young. Perhaps celebrating as they always have & being surrounded by the wider RF while braving public scrutiny was especially important/reassuring to them this tumultuous year.

The parents could be there. Just not invited so to speak...to church or whatever. We don't know.

It's funny how opinions on this have evolved. I remember when William and Catherine decided to spend Christmas with the Middletons, many people were having a meltdown, the monarchy was in danger and things like that. Now no one really cares about royal family members alternating between Christmases.

But none of them seem too. Peter does. He doesn't tend to come the years he doesn't have the girls. The rest are there year on year. Eugenie skipped last year amd receny that seems to be it. Zara didn't go for a number of years when she used to be in Oz...but in most recent times is always there.

Zara and Mike now tend to go to Oz for Magic Millions in January. They did alternate for a long time, until the late Queen’s final Christmas’ at Sandringham. I wonder if something has changed in terms of Mike’s family and hosting Christmas. For a long while I feel there was more alternating between certain groups of the wider family, eg David Linley and Sarah Chattos families only seemed to attend every other year now they seem to attend most.

David Linley is divorced so I guess this is what he always does for Christmas. Sarah seems to be there most years.

Zara never seems to spend Christmas with in-laws...but then neither do any of the others: Beatrice, Eugenie (maybe last year) or Peter. When married to Autumn they wer3 always there. I do think we need to remember they are there from 24th to 26th so do have plenty of time to see the rest of families too.

I think what we're saying is, during holidays like Christmas and Easter, families make arrangements based on what works for them. The idea the BRF is more important than any other family is outdated.

To be fair, Autumn's family lives in Canada, so it would make sense that they might not have travelled to see them over the Christmas break. Perhaps they saw them over the girls' summer holidays instead.

Well, it's hard to make everyone happy, there's always something to be criticized. Just few weeks ago it's "poor Yorks, they shouldn't be punished for their parents' mistakes" because they weren't at the Abbey for the Christmas Carol and some perceive it as snubbing, now it's the opposite.

Indeed, and the senior ladies who didn’t go plaid (Anne and Cams) both went festive red.
I don't think Zara went plaid either.

I don't think they still do. The girls will be at Cheltenham in a few days. They seem to split the holidays down the middle.
