A truly wonderful and interesting retrospective; some of the photos make me feel a little nostalgic.
Especially the Wales family over the years and more so the one that released in 2023 before Catherine revealed she had cancer a few months later.

Here are some more photos of the family's arrival today:

So it's back to Buckingham Palace, not in Windsor anymore. Has the work there finished?

For once I do not have to inquire if Arthur Chatto attended. Arthur did not attend. His brother Samuel and their parents attended.

Call me a stuck-in-the-mud traditionalist, but I do so much miss the old royal family Christmases - Christmas at Windsor Castle and then Sandringham for the New Year.

HLM used to invite the whole royal family to Windsor Castle and when I was doing my last-minute Christmas shopping in Windsor on Christmas Eve you could often see various royals in their cars arriving [for those who havec not visited Windsor, the castle really is right in the town] - Princess Anne and Mark P, The Kents, the Gloucesters, Princess Margaret and the QM who [used to stay at the Castle even though Royal Lodge was very close by], the Ogilvys......

The newspapers always used to contain comments in their diary sections [not just the tabloids] purporting to be made by certain of the Royals about their castle accommodation, with Princess Michael of Kent [the 'royal bad girl' of those days] alleging she had been allocated the smallest suite of rooms etc etc. It was all part of 'royal-watching' fun. On Christmas Day we all used to go to Divine Service at St George's Chapel and see all the Royals close up.

In the end, this lovely tradition was discontinued and the Christmas Lunch is the substitute. The reason given at the time was that the royal family was now just too big, but those Windsor residents who considered that they 'possessed inside information' rather doubted this explanation, pointed out that Windsor Castle had a huge number of rooms and suites and the more likely explanation was that HLM had just grown fed up with all the carping and had decided to call a halt to the whole thing, moving Christmas from Windsor and inviting close family members to shooting etc at Sandringham..

I wonder how many cars were left behind at BP. Because there's photo of Charlotte in front seat and another in rear seat with her brothers, there's one of Eugenie next to her husband but another of her in front seat with Beatrice, then Sophie next to Louise in rear seat and another with Sophie in front while Louise in rear seat.

I had also read that the extended family of Gloucesters and Kent's felt it was time to enjoy Christmas with their respective families as their children had grown and now we're starting families of their own.
Also there did appear to be some discontent from the married in members who never had the opportunity to enjoy Christmas day with parents. Mark Phillips' mother had commented at one time that she never saw her son and grandchildren on Christmas day because they always had to be with the BRF. HLM appeared to relax that rule in the 2010's and now it seems that there's some more flexibility.

I thought that Christmas was moved from Windsor to Sandringham after the fire? And then it continued like that.

1988 was the last one at Windsor as there was major renovation and electrical work going on which subsequently led to the 1992 fire.
A royal Christmas at Sandringham, Norfolk.
Queen and Prince Philip to skip Christmas in Sandringham for first time in 33 years

I'm glad to see Nanny Maria is still with the Wales family. It's hard to believe that she's been with them since 2014.
It was lovely to see Maria accompany them to the Palace for the gathering.
William and Kate's most trusted aide: Nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo is given the honour of joining the royal family at the King's Christmas lunch

No, the works are still ongoing, but certain parts of BP are ready.

Pictures were taken when various guests arrived and left, hence the different seating arrangements in the cars. For example, I think the Wales' all arrived together, but William & Charlotte left together. Beatrice & Eugenie arrived together, but Eugenie left with her nanny and sons etc.

Yes. I gather that people arrived and left with different people (and different car), which was why I wonder about the car being left at BP.

According to this royal photographer, the Wales arrived together but Catherine left with George.

Is there a list of those who attended the pre-Christmas dinner at Buckingham Palace anywhere?

Is there a list of those who attended the pre-Christmas dinner at Buckingham Palace anywhere?
There isn’t. It’s a private event so not mentioned in the Court Circular even for the King and Queen. We only get an idea of who attends because we see their photos when they arrive or depart. That relies on people knowing who the family members are and so lesser known cousins will fly under the radar.

Some people have been waiting out all night - it's not raining, but it's cold! - to see members of the Royal Family going to and from Sandringham Church this morning. I shall be watching on TV :) .
