British Royal Christmas 2: Sep 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Yes Charles is said to be at Windsor many Sunday-Mondays. The issue is the Court Circular heads most engagements that take place there under “Buckingham Palace”, presumably because the court has not moved fully to Windsor as it does to Balmoral etc.
That said, he had shown no interest as far as we can see in moving Christmas from Sandringham. I wonder how long he will stay for before leaving for Birkhall.
The CC does identify when an event takes place at Windsor even if listed under the heading of BP e.g. most investitures are under BP but have taken place at Windsor this year - especially those done by William and Anne.

I see no reason to try and move Christmas to Windsor. Camilla can have her family come and stay at Sandringham, so does not need to make the journey. Also, the Wales family can stay at home at Anmer, and have the Middletons visit, if they so choose. The rest can fit in.

Yes it was a discussion years ago before Charles became Ling, a number of us on these boards were guessing what Charles might do when King and a large number of us theorised he could move it to Windsor for various reasons. The reality is there is no need and that has been born out.

I do remember the discussion. In those days, Camilla left after lunch on Christmas day. William & Catherine were keen to head out to see the Middletons. Peter Philips probably wanted to see his daughters / ex-wife, who lived on the Gatcombe estate. Few of those things are relevant now.

I think it was when it appeared Charles visited Sandringham rarely, before he was given responsibility for some of the farming and estate there and indeed when Camilla went back south after christmas dinner. It would have made it easier for her but clearly they have sorted those issues a d its now irrelevant but its interesting how things change over time.

I don't think unmarried partners have been invited previously, apart from Meghan and that wasn't until she and Harry were officially engaged, so it looks as if this is something that Charles has changed.

This was certainly not the first time a member of the British royal family had a partner attend a royal event. In 1992 the then Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones and her future husband Daniel Chatto attended the wedding of Lady Helen Windsor and Timothy Taylor. Sarah and Daniel were only dating at the time yet Daniel still attended.

Yes, but Christmas at Sandringham is different!
I agree, I have always thought the strict rules for Christmas was to allow the family to be relaxed and enjoy the time away from the public gaze. Only family allowed, no boy/girl friends. No stories being sold further down the line to the media.

At the wedding a guest is usually invited with the "accompanying person"

Good to see him out walking to church. But is he using a stick for walking or is it just an umbrella in case it would rain?

Are we likely to ever see any of the York family attending Christmas with the royal family in future, or will the princesses opt to spend the day with their in laws instead?

The impression I had from the statement was that Bea and Eugenie has chosen to spend Christmas with in-laws for this year but not forever. The fact it was planned before the latest Andrew issues and thus that Andrew would have been going to Sandringham suggests IMO the plan was to alternate as Zara and Mike, the Chattos and Snowdons have all done- in laws some years, Sandringham with Andrew and the RF the next. Beatrice attending Sandringham even when her father didn’t defo suggests its still their go to plan when not celebrating with inlaws to me.

I can well see Andrew attending in the future and just not doing the church walk.

I really do believe the whole thing will change when William is King. I can see him having it at Anmer and just his own family being pictured going to church.

What makes you think that, he appears to enjoy the company of his cousins. As King he will have more responsibility to continue to entertain the family.

Things change in all families as time goes on. The next generation get married and have children, and there are too many people for everyone to get together for Christmas. The Kents and Gloucesters don't go to Sandringham for Christmas now, and the Snowdons and the Chattos will probably drop out at some point down the line. But I'd expect William to keep inviting the Tindalls, Phillipses etc.

Can anybody identify the guests who accompanied the King, Princess Royal and Sir Timothy to church this morning?

William may well change what they do. Personally I’ve always thought its odd they leave Sandringham which is close to beaches for their winter holidays and not summer but thats just my opinion. William may well have a huge change about and I certainly think Catherine’s family will become core to their Christmas. Likewise I think he is close to his cousins so they would be welcome in some way- alternate years etc but Middletons every year. Who knows, whatever we think is pure speculation. Personally with William I don’t think anything of off the table and it of course depends at what point he becomes King.
Its worth noting some years with the late Queen were much quieter and smaller than we see now- her, Philip, her children, James and Louise and Beatrice and Eugenie. Its only as the late Queen got older, had great grandchildren etc that the numbers at Christmas really grew and grew. It’s natural from time to time to have a change about- just as the late Queen did when it moved from Windsor back to Sandringham (despite the fact she always then travelled on to Sandringham for her break).

I would agree , I also wonder if the holiday will become less formal, although we do not know all that much about what goes on behind closed doors, I think we have been lead to believe that dinner was formal etc etc. , especially when Queen Elizabeth was alive. No young children at the table for Xmas lunch.

I think it suited George V to be there in the winter, because it's good for shooting. We'll see what happens about that.

Yes the use of Balmoral and Sandringham both makes sense for hunting and shooting purposes. But William may well change that.
