King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will pay a state visit to France from October 14 - 16, 2024.
They will visit the cities of Paris, Chantilly and Lille.

Superb post remembering the Belgian State Visits to France throughout the years! Particularly wonderful are the images from King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth's visit in 1910!

Nice to know the time of the official start

To be honnest most of the French don't care ...

It has to be noted that the Welcome ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe is the highest honnor given to a visiting head of State. Most ceremonies are held at the Invalides nowadays and only KIng Charles III and President Biden were welcomed here until today during the Macron's administration.

Here are a few more photos from the Arrival and Welcome Ceremony (more will be added )

It is a little strange to see pictures of a State dinner where the mutual friendship between France and Belgium is to be praised, while the French football team is loudly booed before the Belgium-France football match.

Some boos in a stadium don't mean two nations hate eachother. Football fans have a long memory, that's all ...

Yes, of course. I'm merely amused by the coincidence of the two events, and I can't help thinking of Prince Gabriel, a great football fan who is attending the dinner with great French supporters :)

Does’t Mathilde’s sister Elisabeth live in Paris? I thought her children were born there but I may be remembering it wrong.

A great way for the young soldier to exercise his patience...😁 😁 😁

Amazing!

She lives in Paris (or used to), her husband Alfonso works at BNP Paribas.

Great to see Gabriel join the state dinner.
Do we know why he was standing by the entrance in the distance while the King and Queen arrived?

At first I thought, well, Elisabeth's debut in a State Gala is yet to come so perhaps they want to keep it low profile....but then the Prince is heavily featured on the Palace's IG....so, yeah, Idk!

Such a weird dress code. The women in gowns and the men in business suits. This is tragic.
This is a dress code established at least since the 1980's after the end of the white tie banquets. Black tie does come back from time to time. Interesting to note that the Macrons reintroduced long gowns for ladies, cocktail dresses being mandatory during the Hollande's presidency.

But why the different treatment between monarchies? I would expect this dress code republic to republic. But when Charles and Camilla visited, it was a black tie dinner. Why do Philippe and Mathilde only get business suits?

It's very much a common agreement between the two sides. The Grand Duke of Luxembourg get a business suit/long dresses as well. For Charles III the dinner was held at Versailles, hence the upgrade of the dress code.
Very much like for the late Queen, the British always get an upgrade ...

Thanks! A pity they did not attend the banquet.

As for the dress code: the Dutch monarchs were downgraded to business suits and cocktail dresses IIRC, so this is an improvement. I imagine this must have been the wish of the presidency and not of the court. But it is nice the French presidency has the courtesey to upgrade the dress code for the British monarch.

How amazing that Gabriel participated in a SV banquet before Elisabeth.

Quite a surprise indeed that Gabriel joined his parents on an outgoing state visit. Let's hope it's never needed but it must be good to know for both Elisabeth and her parents that Gabriel can take over if it would ever come to that.

A few extra photos from last nights Reception at the Elysée Palace in Paris.

What the King of the Belgians is doing during a 3 days State Visit is more important than what his Consort is wearing. Very happy to see our Prince Gabriel .

3 Day State Visits are very rare of the late!

What was the reaction in Belgium? Is the Prince popular?

I was thinking exactly the same. Can't wait for the return event at the Pompidou, and the little journey to Chantilly.
