"This will be exciting. The book is now being printed," said publisher Torleiv Grue at Gyldendal-owned Kolon.

The novel will be the main choice of one of Norway's major book clubs, guaranteeing it a high profile and many readers.

The publishers said the book, which weighs in at 320 pages and will cost about NOK 300, has much of its action set in Las Vegas and Africa.

Behn's first work, "Trist som faen" (Sad as Hell) had a first print run of 1,800 but ended up selling 80,000 copies and bringing the small press success.

Polfoto 10-09-2003 Ari Behn met his readers in Bergen - promoting his new book "back yard" (Bakgard) Over 100 people were gathered in the bookshop at the shoppingcenter Galleriet in Bergen when Ari Behn turned up to read from his coming book "Back yard" yesterday afternoon. The book is to be released in October 2003. Behn describes "Back yard" as a travel novel, where a 20-year-old man travels around the world - on the journey of his life. The main character, Andreas Aakerlied, lives by the slogan: "To travel is to dream with your eyes open".

Ari as an author

Does Ari come from a prominent family? I've read from TRF that he is an author but is he a successful?

I suppose that depends on which criteria you use to define successfulness as an author :flowers: He manages to get it published anyhow.

A list of Ari's books with a short summary:

Trist som faen, 1999. 15 short stories about young people who're trying to find their place in a complicated world.

Fra hjerte til hjerte, 2003. Märtha Louise and Ari telling the story of their pilgrimage to Trondheim before their wedding.

Bakgård, 2003. A novel about Andreas Aakerlied, 20 year old, going to journey through Sahara to meet his girlfriend in Burkina Faso.

Entusiasme og raseri, 2006. Novel about Kryx, who is meeting Vera Sara, with the same character faults as himself. A novel about success, and disaster - Norway & Las Vegas.

So, is there any specific information about Ari's family?

Probably there is some in Norwegian, but I don't understand.

Fra hjerte til hjerte: book by Ari Behn on the royal wedding

i now found out that ari behn, with the collaboration of martha louise, wrote a book about their wedding called Fra hjerte til hjerte. has anyone read this book? i am curious as to what it says. from my knowledge, there are no other books written by one of the protagonists of a royal wedding, so i am sure it would be an interesting read for some of us. unfortunately the book is only in norwegian, so not that accessible to non-norwegian speakers...

Should translate that book into other languages. I wanted to read. It's not for sale outside of Norway?

And from Martha Louise:

"Dear Ari.
Today we have celebrated you. You would have been 50 years old today. We should have brought muffins on the bed while singing the birthday song in the morning.
Later we would have toasted you, made speeches for you, laughed and danced as we talked about serious things, philosophical things, funny things and everything in between. We can't do that. Nevertheless, we gave you muffins on the grave and sang the birthday song so loudly for you that you must have heard it far past the Pearl Gate. Just wanted to say that we are thinking of you and that you would have been very proud of our children, as you were when you hugged them as only you could. ❤️"

Hate to say it but , Princess Ragnhild was totally correct in her assessment of MM , I'm not saying that about Ari Behn , because his eventual mental health problems could not have been known at the time of his marriage to ML .

It was not mental health problems which made Ari Behn a controversial spouse in the eyes of the public, but that similarly to Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby, he reportedly had a history of involvement with the party drug scene and associations with people viewed as disreputable. His documentary in which he appeared to be using cocaine with sex workers and his political comments about the Afghanistan war were also major points of controversy, judging from news articles dating from the time of the engagement.

I've always wondered what people mean by the term "party drug scene". Although I myself don't approve of the use of drugs the way MM & AB has been described to use drugs in their youths isn't particularly out of the ordinary in the nightlife of any European city.
Was it healthy? - No.
Is it worth pointing fingers at? - I don't think so.
Did the media make chickens out of feathers? - I'd say so, yes.

I can't speak to that, but the Norwegian news articles dating from the early 2000s which I've read over the years do give me the consistent impression that their use of illegal drugs in the context of a seemingly hedonistic lifestyle ("house party" seems to be the most common phrase in English translations to describe their scene/friend group) was the most criticized part of their background for the general public. (Foreign news articles from the time, in contrast, tended to focus on the fact that Mette-Marit was a single mother, but this appeared to be less of an issue (though still an issue) from Norwegian reports.)

I'd say it depends more on the official policy against drug use in this part of the world. The use of drugs is still a controversial issue in the Nordic countries where the often tough stance of the authorities has long had a large support among the countries' populations. This seems to be changing during the last decade and today drug use isn't more controversial than having a drink for many people.

What does that really mean? The money you have to pay for "having a drink" in Norway... Booze costs huge sums! Drinking is strongly discouraged by the state there!

But I always had the suspicion, that the Norwegians and the folks in Sweden brew their alcoholic beverages all by themselves. So the official prices are only for the tourists...

There's nothing controversial about drinking alcohol and there never has amongst the general population. That the state has a monopoly of sale and that alcohol is highly taxed is to encourage a more prudent intake of alcohol in countries where not so long ago drinking was the number one threat against public health. Also, no the home brewing of alcohol is not at all common anymore although it very much used to be up until the 1990s. At least not in Sweden.

I've always liked Ari Behn. He always seemed like a nice man to me. I was saddened by his death.

Marianne Behn opens up about her life almost five years after losing her son. She also talks about why the family was not invited to Princess Märtha and Durek's wedding.

I never liked Ari as a person and i still don’t… But he did not deserve to die the way he did! He deserved to get the help he so desperately needed and to live to see his daughters grow old!

Having lost a parent myself much too early, i know something about the permanent hole in your heart that it gives you for the rest of your life…

And to his defense, he was better than the ”thing” M-L currently lives with
