The groom was born a member of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine and he gained the title of Erzherzog von Österreich. Paul Georg (*1964) is the 7th child of Otto, Archduke von Österreich, and of his wife Regina (née Princess von Sachsen-Meiningen). Eilika (*1972) is the eldest daughter of Duke Johann von Oldenburg and of his wife Ilka (née Countess zu Ortenburg).

Besides the various branches of the Habsburg family, the wedding was also attended by representatives of foreign royal houses, such as Prince Felipe and Simoneta Gómez-Acebo from Spain, Prince Albert of Monaco, Gloria von Thurn und Taxis and the Dukes of Bragança.
