A Girl for Prince Carl Philip & Princess Sofia: Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, February 7, 2025

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The King also said a different order of names.

What he said: Inse Silvia Marie Lilian.
What the website says: Ines Marie Lilian Silvia.

Middle names (Silvia Marie Lilian) were to be expected but Princess Ines was unexpected. But this is very lovely name and Ines is quite common in Nordic countries. Quite popular in Estonia also.
Of the younger generation, Ariane of the Neatherlands also has "Inés" as her middle name.

There is a little girl who attends our holiday club at church who is named Ines. Her family pronounce it “Innis”.

My aunts second name is Ines but spelled as Inez.

It’s not a very unusual name here in Sweden… Inse would have been much more unusual…

Margareta Thorgren:
– The King is very sorry that he said the wrong name. The reason he said the wrong name is that the names were kept secret until just before the Council, even from the King.
For real? The King as a grandfather, never mind as the Monarch, isn't told the name before the Council?

It sounds like the parents hadn’t even decided the names until this morning… I blame this on Carl Philip and Sofia for putting His Majesty in this situation…

Not even Victoria who sat beside her father reacted, so she must have thought it was right…

Very unusual for being the royal family… But it’s what it is… Now it’s over and the King will be famous for just another gaffe that people will laugh over for years to come :(

In Finland Daisy Duck is called "Iines Ankka", so the name has a little weird connection here.

Yes, the blame goes to Carl Philip and Sofia. Didn't they say/pronounce the name to the King? He has dyslexia, so it is no wonder he said Inse.

Te Deum:
Carl Philip came to Te Deum with his sons. Victoria and Daniel + Madeleine and Chris don't have their children with them.

I'd never have guessed Ines , I thought we might see Alice after the queens late mother!

It’s interesting that of the King’s 9 grandchildren it’s only Prince Oscar who has a ”traditional Bernadotte name” as spoken name…. The others recived unusual spoken names and more traditional middle names…

Not what i would have guessed in 2011..,

The king has dyslexia just like his children. I am always amazed at how that mostly seems to slip everyone's (especially when it comes to the media) memory when the behaviour of HM is assessed. We are all on different places on the broad spectrum of neurodiversity and regardless of where we stand, we all need some understanding. I'm sure the king feels awful making such a mistake but such is life!

I do wonder how the names were presented in the official papers given to the king. Maybe they were printed as he read them, who knows. To me the name is pretty ordinary and less princessy than might be expected but then, she will be a normal citizen although a member of the royal family. I guess I was still hoping for something longer and less nicknamey, maybe Sibylla, Desiree, Helene... Some nod towards recently passed aunt Birgitta might have been nice. The king's grandmother had some nice names (Margaret Victoria Charlotte Augusta Norah) and choosing one of them would have been lovely, maybe a nod towards auntie Victoria...? Crown Princess Margaretha's mother did have the name Agnes among her names so there's one link to the name Ines.

I’m sure most people is aware that he has dyslexia.

The problem here rather sounds like he wasn’t even informed of the names until shortly before the council started and may even have got the wrong information on his paper… He probably just did what he thought was right

But the King said at the Council: Inse Silvia Marie Lilian.

But when the king announced what her name would be, he called her Inse.

The king said the wrong name for the new princess – Ines became Inse and confused many.

The King's dyslexia probably played tricks on him

Just to clarify, people here seem to be very aware but based on the discussions I've had with people who do not follow the royals that much, most seem completely unaware that he has dyslexia or even if they are aware, most don't make the connection between dyslexia and his occasional awkwardness. I have great sympathy towards HM and I feel he is often misunderstood. The documentary released a couple of years ago shed some light on how difficult it must have been for his father and for him.

I do believe something was off with the names on the official release that was handed to him. Let's not forget Carl Philip also has dyslexia, maybe they were still trying to figure out the order of the names and there was probably very little time to get the names on paper and to the council so there are several steps where it might have gone wrong.

Oh and I never even thought of it... Ines being mostly a Spanish and Portuguese version of the name, maybe that's because of Silvia.

Some words from Västerbotten County:

I love the fact that little Ines has 4 names!

Carl Philip and Sofia have had a lot of time to think about the names and get the names in right order to the paper which was given to the King. And Carl Philip has dyslexia too, so he should have taken care that the King would get the names right.
It is a pity, that this will be again one more video and thing which will be used to joke about the King.

Carl Philip arrived to Te Deum with his sons. Princess Christina and Patrick Sommerlath are there too.

Never expected Ines - but I like it. The other names of course need no explanation: beautiful nods to beloved family members.

Ines is unexpected but a beautiful one.

Johan T Lindwall from Svensk Damtidning claims Ines is a family name from Sofia's side of the family. I've gone through her family tree and I cannot find any Ines or even Agnes.

Since Sibylla is a name of a fast food chain in Sweden, I don't think it ever was an option despite it being a family name.
Well there's always Sybilla which was the name of several ancestral mothers in Carl Philip's family...

Didn't have Ines on my bingo card. Too bad that Victoria, CP, and Madeleine didn't select Sybilla as at least one of the four names given to their children.
