A Girl for Prince Carl Philip & Princess Sofia: Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, February 7, 2025

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
It' s possible that they knew before ;)
I always suspected so. I am happy for them, even though they probably would have been just as thrilled with another healthy beautiful baby boy.

But Sofia is 40 now and may want to bring a close to her childbearing years.

It's of course an open question as to whether CP and Sofia were themselves surprised or already knew they were expecting a girl some time ago. Congrats to everyone including the new Duchess; name will be interesting.

Congratulations to the family! A princess is lovely and a nice balance to the number of boys and girls in the grand kids.

It rather have with the King’s decision from 2019 to do, to strip the ”H.R.H.” from Carl Philips and Madeleines children, to distinguish them from Victoria’s family who is the ”next royal family”
Perhaps but he has allowed other royal trappings.

Perhaps but he has allowed other royal trappings.
There was certainly a difference even with some royal trappings. No monogram. No live stream of his baptism. They certainly seem to be slowly showing divide. Not fair to strip all royal trappings when his brothers and cousins did. Little princess will likely be same. Private baptism aired later, still royal order and duchy but less pomp then before.

Is the name of the little one Sofia too?

Congratulations to the parents and big brothers.

Is it known who will broadcast the konselj?

This time, there's no press conference, but a short press release

There is still a council of state, no?
Yes, the Council of State is at 11.15 and according to the court's calendar, the King and the Crown Princess attend. No news so far that the Council of State will be broadcasted live at SVT's or TV4's channels. But we will of course see it at a news clip a little later.

Live, the Council starts at 11.15:

Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, Duchess of Västerbotten

But the King said at the Council: Inse Silvia Marie Lilian.

But when the king announced what her name would be, he called her Inse.

The king said the wrong name for the new princess – Ines became Inse and confused many.

Inse Silvia Marie Lilian

I may have spelled that incorrectly though.

Inse? A surprise indeed. But no surprise in Silvia, Marie and Lilian being included, both grannies and the darling late aunt have been honoured.

Edit: it's INES, not Inse. Lol

”Princess Inse Duchess of Västerbotten”

How lovely that the king gave his late father’s duchy to his little granddaughter.

For the Swedes or Scandinavians amongst us on the forums, is Inse a common name. I confess that I have never heard it before.

I've always liked the name Ines but never expected a Princess Ines to come out of the Swedish RF! Always hoped one of the Spanish royals would name their kids Inés.

How is Ines pronounced by a Swedish speaker?

Perhaps the Duchess’s name is another kungen/knugen moment? Hope not.

I’ve never heard the name Inse before. Similar ones, but not that.

Wasn't expecting Ines at all! Complete surprise. The middle names are the one I expected but Ines is super unexpected

Never heard Inse. In german we have the name Inge which is similar

The King definitely said ”Inse” - Not Ines

But The Royal Courts website states ”Ines”

I guess we shall wait for the Te Deum Service to see when the priests will pronounce the name…

It’s Ines! But the king definitely sounded like he said it as Inse

Now i’m really confused.

The King definitely said ”Inse”

The Royal Courts website states ”Ines”

Yes, he said "Inse" and the other names in wrong order, I posted the press' reactions to my previous post.

And again a correction: Now the court website says:
Ines Marie Lilian Silvia

What a mess!

Margareta Thorgren:
– The King is very sorry that he said the wrong name. The reason he said the wrong name is that the names were kept secret until just before the Council, even from the King.
