Coin Worth £3.2m Bearing Queen Elizabeth’s Portrait Stolen

The security team of Berlin’s Bode Museum is in for some sleepless nights, as a Canadian coin worth £3.2m was stolen from an exhibition in the early hours of Monday morning. Featuring a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side, the solid gold coin has a face value of $CAD1million. Royal Mint Reveals Coin To Mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday

Today the Royal Mint revealed the coin they have minted to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday. The £5 commemorative coin features a garland of nine roses (one for each of the Queen’s decades) surrounding the royal cypher ‘EIIR’ and the number 90. The Royal Mint today released the new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that will begin featuring on British coins. Engraver Jody Clark, who works at the Royal Mint, saw his design selected from the final selection of anonymous submissions.
