Delphine Boël, daughter of King Albert II

I do not disagree with you in principle, but I would hardly call her a "young girl". I believe she is fifty years old now. In fact, I think that principle is what matters here, not sentiment. Should the king be an absolute monarch in modern Belgium, above the law? The court said "no".

Delphine Boël, daughter of King Albert II

I never realized how beautiful Queen Paola was when she was young until I started to look at photos of her because of this development in the lawsuit brought by Delphine Boel.

    Catherine Middleton's Wedding Dress

I agree with both of you. I said in the musings thread that I might not like Catherine's choice of gown, but that I was sure it would be elegant and in good taste. I am delighted to say that not only did it have the aforementioned attributes, but that I was personally very taken with it as well...

    Catherine Middleton's Wedding Dress

I could not agree with you more! I loved everything about the way Catherine looked! I loved it that her hair was down so that she looked like herself instead of some unreal, unusual version of herself! Her natural beauty shone through today!!! I loved the veil, which I first saw after she...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

Indeed. That is why I find it fascinating that while determining who will reign one set of criteria is used and when determining precedence in other areas (presumably as in who sits where at the table) another set of criteria is used! rawsilk

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

Interesting. Because Lady Louise Windsor is above even the The Princess Royal, let alone Zara Phillips, in the Line of Succession. rawsilk

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

One doesn't have to live in the days of Mary Tudor and Elizabeth I in order to appreciate the climate change that comes with the change of régime! It must be harrowing to be one of the members of the royal family whose fortunes go up and down based on who is sovereign at the moment. And I don't...

Catherine Middleton Wedding Dress Suggestions and Musings

That may be so. The chances are good that I will not like it. I rarely like the dresses that Kate chooses. On the other hand, no matter what she wears, she will look elegant and in excellent taste as she always does. rawsilk

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

That doesn't make sense to me. If Edward had wanted to be a royal duke, he could have been made one when he married. He is obviously perfectly content to wait and receive his father's title when it is bequeathed to him. Perhaps he does not even wish to receive it upon his father's death, but has...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

I think there is some confusion here over where one is in the line of succession-i.e. whether the line of succession should follow the male line or not-and whether one is "royal". Some people want the line of succession to ensure that a female child born to Prince William and Catherine would...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

Well, technically speaking, Elizabeth II did not create "the Duke of York", of course! The title had been around for centuries. She simply granted it to Andrew. rawsilk

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

That never occurred to me. I don't know why he would need a title. However, if she wished to honor him for his accomplishments as a man of business, I would think she might knight him. Usually if a man is successful in business or entertainment or whatever, he is knighted. (For example...

Catherine Middleton's Wedding Tiara: Suggestions and Musings

If I were Kate and my parents had the money to buy me a tiara, I would be asking them if I could design one for my wedding day! That, far more than my gown, would hold my interest. The gown would be worn only once. The tiara I could wear many times and could be passed down for many...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

I understand that you think it is an "optimistic move", but I do not think that the Queen will see it that way. (The more that I see of Sister Morphine's postings, the more I agree with her.) I doubt that the Queen would consider it, "optimism" suddenly to overturn a centuries long tradition...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

I do not know why anyone has an obsession with Catherine becoming a "princess in her own right". I never understood why Diana, who had the second highest title in England as Princess of Wales, had to be called, "Princess Diana", either. I doubt very much that Queen Elizabeth, who is extremely...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

You misinterpreted my posting. I am aware that after their marriage, if William has not been made a royal duke, that Catherine will be, "Princess William of Wales". What I said was that if Prince Charles becomes King, that it is unlikely that Catherine will ever style herself as, "The Princess...

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Possible Titles

I don't believe I have ever heard a Royal Duchess referred to as "The Princess (her husband's name)". Once Charles is King and she is the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Rothsay, I would assume that she would use those titles. (That is assuming that William was not already made a Royal...

Charles & Camilla: How has your opinion changed since the wedding?

If this is the history it seems remarkable, indeed, that the monarchy allowed European Union laws to interfere with longstanding British laws on their own traditions. Do you know in what way the EU laws were "incorporated" into British law so as to affect The Royal Marriage Act? Was it simply...

Charles & Camilla: How has your opinion changed since the wedding?

Are you quite sure about this? I believe that members of the Royal Family still have to ask the permission of the Queen before marrying. Does it matter whether this is actually law or custom? Could the Queen have prevented a marriage by law prior to the European Convention of Human Rights?

Greetings from Virginia in the United States

Thank you for the welcome, Elspeth. I am not sure whether I will have anything of substance to contribute in the British forum unless I research something! Your members are all more knowledgeable than I am! I have, recently, been doing some research on tiaras and have learned a bit about many...

Greetings from Virginia in the United States

Hello, everyone! I attempted to make my first posting in this forum using another browser and was unable to type anything, so I am trying again using Internet Explorer. As the title of my thread says, I live in the state of Virginia in the United States. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip...
