Princess Máxima, Current Events 5 (September 2007 - March 2008)

She looked indeed very well - but a visit to the beauty salon to touch up those roots wouldn't hurt?

Criticism on Máxima's Remarks about the Dutch Identity: September 2007

Indeed, I can't understand why people who are trained in political talk, journalism, academic writing and so on, could really make such a big fuss taking her words out of context. Certainly saying that "dé" Nederlander bestaat niet" is different from saying "de Nederlander bestaat niet"...

    Willem-Alexander & Máxima's Official Visit to Slovenia: October 2-4, 2007

I think the old-pink outfit was very nice and it looked good on her. The curled hair-do also very nice. Only thing, why not put the jacket on, maybe she found it was too tight right before leaving? All in all, I think it's been the best she's looked during this trip...

    Willem-Alexander & Máxima's Official Visit to Slovenia: October 2-4, 2007

Hey, careful what you wish for!!! That parrot-green/yellow outfit she's wearing today is hideous!!!!!!! Something that Laurentien would wear.

The Family of Queen Máxima - The Zorreguietas

Very posh indeed! All those Blacquiers, Lariviére, and even Amalita, Gino ... :smile:Was it a costume ball or sth. like that?

    Willem-Alexander & Máxima's Official Visit to Slovenia: October 2-4, 2007

I really don't like the grey outfit, it's dull! And it's also true that her hair looks rather messy ... Pity! As to the evening dress, can't say much from the pictures, she's sitting in all of them! :ermm:

    Willem-Alexander & Máxima's Official Visit to Slovenia: October 2-4, 2007

Thanks Lucien for the link - Maxima looks really elegant today, nice colour and as usual, bright smile

Criticism on Máxima's Remarks about the Dutch Identity: September 2007

Well, the fact that there are so many different opinions about the truth in Maxima's words (basically, that there is no such thing as ONE type of "Nederlander" but MANY) proves that those words are true  Multi-culturalism is plain evident, whether some people like it and applaud it or not...

    Máxima's Voice, Accent and Languages

Regarding her accent when speaking English, even if it's not completely free of her Argentinean melody and also tinted by her Dutch, in general, it's the English that you're normally taught in British schools around the world. She attended Northlands School in Buenos Aires and that's where she...

The Family of Queen Máxima - The Zorreguietas

No, Regina - the man's name comes first! That's what they're head of the family for ;) So it would be Zorreguieta Cerrutti  But that depends on whether the parents register the child with both their surnames, it's not automatic, as I think it's in Spain?

The Family of Queen Máxima - The Zorreguietas

Vanesa, as the saying goes: Peruvians descend from the Incas, Mexicans rom the Mayas - we Argentineans descend from the boats  I mean as a follow-up to your remark about the mixing of surnames with different backgrounds. ;)

Criticism on Máxima's Remarks about the Dutch Identity: September 2007

I've just read her speech, and I agree that it's a very good one, what else could she say being yet another "ingeburgerd" Dutch citizen. I didn't kwow that they had that mushroom in front of their house indicating the coordinates, distances, direction of the places where she's lived? That's...

    Máxima in the Argentinian Media

That is silly, just trying to fill pages with something saucy, I believe. :ermm:

    Máxima in the Argentinian Media

I agree with you Verde Esmeralda, I too find it a very strange remark to make on the part of Caras. Now, it never occurred to the people at Caras to think that this was a PRIVATE party, and that Máxima's father is an important part of the family? They can't think that this is the first time that...

Photo Shoot for Alexia's Second Birthday: June 26, 2007

Yes, "gorda" means "fat one" literally, but we (argentinian people) use it as a pet name, it's just like saying "sweety"

Photo Shoot for Alexia's Second Birthday: June 26, 2007

In the video you can hear Máxima speaking Spanish to Alexia, she says "soplá, soplá" (blow, blow), "bieeeeen, gorda!" (well done, sweety) and other things....

Princess Máxima, Current Events 4 (April - September 2007)

Maybe she's lived in Holland for too long? Lost her Latin grace and taste for clothes? :ermm: Went shopping with Laurentien???

Lovely pictures - Grace was really very, very beautiful!

    Godparents for Princess Ariane

Yes, Henri, the point I was trying to make was that the fact that Maxima's siblings are Catholics does not prevent them from becoming godparents to the princesses.

    Godparents for Princess Ariane

I concur with your choice Henri, except for the prominent royal - my guess is that it'll be Mette-Marit instead of Martha Louise.... Let's see what happens ;-)

    Godparents for Princess Ariane

The princesses are not Catholic, they're brought up in the protestant faith as far as I know. BUt then again, Máxima's brothers and sister are most surely Catholics and Martin and Juan have been godparents to the other two princesses, right?

    It's a Girl - Ariane Wilhelmina Máxima Ines: April 10, 2007

I totally agree with you and with some other people who believe that the new names for the royal babies reflect in a way the modern times. for starters, crown princes are now marrying commoners so why not use common names as well? Besides, the old and traditional names are also there, they...

    It's a Girl - Ariane Wilhelmina Máxima Ines: April 10, 2007

Yes, you are right indeed.... it's like the AR in "are" sort of ... though shorter because the stress falls on the second syllable... And the Prince didn't pronouce the last 'e' so forget about the "ay" part. Anyway, I suggest you check out the NOS Journaal site, you'll see the video of the...

    It's a Girl - Ariane Wilhelmina Máxima Ines: April 10, 2007

Yes, it is indeed a nice name and unusual in these parts - in Argentina "Ariana" is not uncommon - I have a niece with that name... :ermm: And I agree that it's a good idea to choose a "new" or "fresh" name as first name!
