Queen Máxima in New York and Washington For Inclusive Finance
In her role as special advocate of the United Nations Secretary General for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA), Queen Máxima was in New York and Washington on January 11-12 to attend several meetings and to mark her 15th year as UNSGSA special advocate.
On Thursday January 11, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the Queen met with António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, and Amina Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General. The meeting was focused on the upcoming activities in the fields of financial inclusion and financial health.
Then Queen Maxima was reunited with Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss about the priorities of the UNDP.
In Washington, on Friday January 12, at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headquarters, the Queen was reunited with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of IMF. Topics of the meeting were collaboration on financial inclusion, financial health across the globe, promoting financial inclusion and the important role of IMF.
Queen Maxima also met with Ajay Banga, World Bank President, and some members of the Reference Group, “leading international organizations in financial inclusion to share expertise and suggest strategic opportunities she can advance through advocacy and partnerships”.
