Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth Begin a Working Visit to Egypt
Today, Tuesday March 14, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde, along with her daughter, Princess Elisabeth, started a three-day working visit to Egypt.
The working visit was organized to mark the 100th anniversary of the visit that Queen Elisabeth, the Princess’ great-great-grandmother, made with her son Prince Leopold, the later King Leopold III.
On their first day in Egypt the Queen and the Princess paid a visit to the Baron Empain’s palace, an Indian-inspired building, to open officially a temporary exhibition titled “1923–2023: Queen Elisabeth of Belgium in Egypt”. This exhibition, which will be on display at the palace for a month, is a tribute for Queen Elisabeth’s love for archaeology and Egypt.
