Official Visit to the Dutch Caribbean: Sint Eustatius
Today, Wednesday February 8, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima and the Princess of Orange continued the official visit to the Dutch Caribbean in Sint Eustatius.
Upon the arrival in Oranjestad, the capital of Sint Eustatius, the Royal Couple and the Princess were welcomed by Alida Francis, the Government Commissioner. Then they started a walk through the historic center of Oranjestad during which was also discussed the slavery past and also toured the capital’s culturally sites. Later the King, the Queen and the Princess attended a meeting with young people to talk about their future on the island.
Following a lunch with several residents of Sint Eustatius, the Royal Couple and the Princess paid a visit to Zeelandia Beach to know more about the nature management on the island.
The following visit was at a community garden to be informed by the farmers on the food supply on the island.
In the afternoon the King, the Queen and the Princess attended a basketball demonstration at the Earl Merkman Sport Complex and in the evening took place an event in Fort Oranje to celebrate the cultural heritage of the island.
