Commonwealth Visits to Mark Diamond Jubilee Year

Buckingham Palace today released details of next year’s Commonwealth visits, which shall be taking place in conjunction with HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh will not be undertaking any overseas trips, instead focusing on the United Kingdom region. They will visit Wales, Scotland, the Midlands and East Anglia, the four corners of England as well as London. These visits will take place beginning in March and ending in July, whilst the Queen and Prince Philip are also performing their regular engagements.

To ensure that the British Commonwealth realms do not miss out on the opportunity to mark the jubilee, various members of the Royal Family will be paying visits to different nations on behalf of the Queen. Dates for the visits will be announced next year.

TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Malaysia, Singapore, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu. HRH Prince Harry will visit Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas. HRH The Duke of York will visit India. TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex will tour the Caribbean – Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Gibraltar, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago. HRH The Princess Royal will visit Mozambique and Zambia, while HRH The Duke of Gloucester will visit the British Virgin Islands and Malta, and HRH The Duke of Kent will visit the Falkland Islands and Uganda.

The main celebrations of the jubilee will be taking place between June 2nd and 5th, referred to as ‘Central Weekend’. Events during ‘Central Weekend’ will include the Epsom Derby, the Big Jubilee Lunch, the Thames River Jubilee Pagent, a concert and a service of thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
