The Diamond Jubilee Luncheon and Dinner for the World's Monarchs: May 18, 2012

Absent Friends. The Bhutanese Royal family are`nt the only absentees. The Cambodian Royal family is not represented and given that several deposed Monarchs are in attendance, it`s surprising to learn that former King Guyanendra of Nepal is absent, the UK and Nepal are long standing allies...

    Scottish Independence And The Windsors

You are entitled to your opinion, though of course as an outsider you do not have a vote on the matter and therefor, i fail to see the relevance of your opinion.....

Duke and Duchess of Windsor (1894-1972) and (1895-1986)

Cosmo Lang was a tricky character, but that said, i`m not convinced by this story, any more than i am of the tale that the Duke (never King in my opinion) willingly gave up the Crown for "love." Windsor was an essentially weak man who could not, or indeed would not, sacrifice his own wants and...

    Scottish Independence And The Windsors

" Fluster and Bluster " ? I would`nt be too surprised if Mr Salmond had a pair of Westies with those names. I think it is the economic question which is undermining the whole case for independence. I would like to believe that people were drawing away from seperation from a sense of loyalty to...

    Scottish Independence And The Windsors

Yes that`s true, support for independence in Scotland is currently stuck at the 30% level, below that which has been recorded in other parts of the UK. The referendum is still scheduled for some time in 2014, but of course Salmond is a devious character, he may well realise that 30% cannot be...

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, Current Events Part 22: April 2012 - June 2013

I`m pleased to see the King back on duty so soon after such a serious accident, a fine riposte to his rat-bag critics who seemed more concerned with the welfare of a dead elephant, than the health and well being of their rightfull Sovereign.

The Queen and Canada: Residences, Governor General, etc...

Commemoration? This year marks the bicentennial of the outbreak of the war of 1812, an extremely important event in history, but regretably, largely forgotten now. There are no plans for any official commemorations here in the UK, but what of Canada? Surely such an important event in the...

Prince William's Suitability to be King

I think we can safely presume that William will be no different from any other Reigning Monarch, he will " do it " because he has an abiding sense that he was " born to it. "

Last Hours, Death, Transfer from France, Funeral and Interment

Princess Diana`s resting place was entirely the choice of the Spencer family. Earl Spencer in particular was adamant that his sister be buried in a quiet location, free from " grief tourists " Whatever we might think of Charles Spencer, surely this was a decision that he was entitled to make?

Support for the Monarchy in the UK 1: Ending Sep 2022

More over, i think people realise that the succession is`nt a beauty contest. If we accept the institution of Monarchy then we must also accept it`s natural progression: Elizabeth to Charles to William and onwards. Skipping a generation for reasons of " popularity " is simply not an option.

Support for the Monarchy in the UK 1: Ending Sep 2022

Thank you for that interesting link, EIIR. Usually, i would`nt touch the New Statesman with the proverbial barge pole, but this made very interesting reading. I think anyone who recalls the mass hysteria we witnessed, in the aftermath of Princess Diana`s death, will not be too surprised to learn...

    Royals Murdered

Princess Mafalda of Savoy ( 1902-44 ) Second daughter of King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy. On the surrender of Italy to the allies, in 1943, Mafalda, wife of Prince Phillip of Hesse, was arrested by the Gestapo and interned in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Mafalda died there, as a result of...

How / Why did you get interested in royalty?

I would`nt say that i consciously developed an interest in Royalty/monarchy, but having been born and lived all of my life under the reign of Queen Elizabeth, i was naturally curious about the institution she represented and studying history in school, i was amazed to learn that Scotland, from...
