Great pictures! They should have added a formal one of the Queen as well, like they did after the accession 5 years ago. My favourite is the one of the King with P. Elisabeth...mais ça va sans dire!

After all, she is the queen by right of her husband only. It's not a consitutional position she has.
Nice family pictures, though. The young Duchess looks very good.

The new portraits are wonderful. Perfect down to the last detail!

I can imagine that other shots of that photo session (maybe also a formal one of Queen Mathilde as Marchesina suggested) will be used for later occasions as it's been done so before.

I am not one who likes to make comparisons, but I lile these pictures than those released by the Dutch court in the same occasion. Those looked really like a photoshoot for some kind of reality show...

On another note, it's amazing to see how much Elisabeth looks like her grandmother Queen Paola.

The post on the royal family's Facebook account describes the anniversary pictures as simply "new photos". In contrast to the Spanish monarchy, King Philippe's siblings and extended family did not lose their membership of the Royal Family when he acceded to the throne. :flowers: It is true, however, that Philippe has focused the monarchy on himself and his wife and children, which is shown by not including any other members of the Royal Family in the new photos.

Love the photos! Elisabeth is beautiful.

These photos were a nice surprise! They're lovely - I think my favourite is the one of Philippe and Elisabeth though I also really like the one of Philippe and Mathilde together. Elisabeth looks like a future queen already, and I'm sure she'll be a great asset to the BRF.
I can't believe it's been five years already since Philippe ascended the throne.

Yes, she is quite the teen beauty now! Excellent photos with her father. I am always so touched by how naturally affectionate the four children are with one another...holding hands without being prompted, nuzzling and leaning on one another.

They are spontaneous yet poised, dignified and respectful but also very much children still. I have no idea how Philippe and Mathilde managed it given all the well publicized dysfunction in the BRF, but they have raised(seemingly) a perfect family.

I agree. It is odd that there is no official picture of the King and the Queen together wearing orders.

I love the picture of Elisabeth and her father. He looks so dignified as King and you can see the love and pride he has for his eldest daughter there, Elisabeth is quite the young woman now, very poised and elegant, every inch the future queen of her country.

I think it is due to the fact that the late Baudouin and Fabiola have been better parents for Philippe than his own, setting a wonderful example for him to raise his children. But also Mathilde's family is to be taken into consideration...

These are genuinely nice portraits!
A nice mix of being formal and relaxed of the same time.

A happy family , a never seen in Belgium since 1935.
Even Gabriel is smiling.
Great Picture of the King , Head of State..

I went to a Visit and a Cocktail at the Royal Palace At the Entrance 2 new Paintings of the Queen left and the King right. We were all disapointed about the Queen's Painting. It is absolutely not our Queen ! (an idealisation of her ).
Each Room at the Palace has its name and pictures of their Events . A film about Prince Albert's Wedding, King Baudouin's Wedding.and his Funerals 5 years ago. The highlight are King's Philippe's paintings of King Baudouin We were wondering if it was a photo or a King 's remembrance of his uncle with his dog.
Royal Palace is open for free until 2th of September except on Monday but last entrance at 15.45!

It would be better for Belgium if folk were charged for seeing inside the royal palace. The British are getting millions from people visiting the state rooms at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and that money would not go amiss.

Heavens above! I had to look up Armenia on Google Maps! I had not known where it is although the Kardashians have been there! That's a strange place for the Belgian RF to go! The weather looks fantastic however. Wow! Philippe and Mathilde like to travel.

My first thought was " how on earth could anyone go voluntarily on a holiday to Armenia?!" Then I read that there are some places you can go for a pilgrimage. Knowing Ph. and Math. being devout catholics it might be for religious reasons...?

It looks like a fantastic trip. King Philippe clearly wants holidays with content. Floating around in Saint-Tropez seems not his habitat.

Your comment is really insulting. Armenia is one of most beautiful countries in the world with rich culture and very interesting history. All Caucasus region is very beautiful and are worth a visit.

I have to admit that my first thought was "why Armenia?" too, not because I think it isn't a nice place for travel or it's a boring country, just because I think Armenia (and the Caucasus region) isn't a popular vacation choice for the royals, I get the impression that they usually enjoy their holidays in South and Central Europe.

That video reminds me that King Philippe is an outdoor and sporty person too, I always forget that:D.

If you want to feel insulted, so be it. Fact is I never heard anyone going to Armenia who wasn´t born there. Still the landscape might well be pictoresque and beautiful.

The BRF do seem to pick more unusual places, away from the usual tourist hotspots for continental Europe but I like that about them.

How do you know that Philippe and Mathilde are devout Catholics? They attend public ceremonies in the Catholic Church because that is the church the RF has been historically associated with, but they don't seem to be religious zealots like Baudouin and Fabiola for example.
