I imagine (and I have no knowledge I really am just guessing) that the Queen would have helped her mother out rather than see her give up one of her residences.

Remember Royal Lodge was her house...

I think she was from a generation that placed great importance on keeping up appearances. To be fair her debts were paid off by the Queen weren't they? Personally I don't think the Queen Mother...
