Nice Pictures!
I love the car, the Royal Family used. Queen Margrethe and Princess Alexandra looked smart in their attires! Princess Alex looked serious during the whole affair.

I like the place wherein they are sitting. More beauty was added because of the clock.

Though Princess Alex was wearing the same attire as of the one she wore last may but I still love it for it is one of my most favorite attire of hers. Great attire also by Princess Mary.

Eeeks! Just a small correction: They're not actually divorced yet. And I'm hoping that just maybe they can work out their differences.

I Know. They have to do what's best for them, but I remember watching their wedding on tv, and I just hate the thought of them calling it quits (yes, they should stay together for me, lol :))

Thanks so much for the pics. If J & A could put up such a good show of unity (like today, and I congratulate them) , wish they could have put up such a show for the sake of their boys and stay married. The whole family looks so nice together.

Mary looks upset, though. Morning sickness??:)

I too hope that Alexandra and Joachim will reconcile.

pdas1201 10-05-2004 06:35 PM

I am a big fan of mary's fashion but I must say she didn't look well today. I didn't like her dress, the coat was nice (from the engagement). But the hat absolutely did not suit her. She looked dowdy with that brown monstrosity of a hat with that absurd bow on the side.
Princess Alexandra, on the other hand, looked as elegant as ever. With her beautiful blue dress and pearls. Joachim and her looked so good together, why are they divorcing????? I know, because they have problems, but they make such a perfect couple that I can't help wishing that they get back together again.
Anyways, thanks for the pics everyone. You guys are the BEST!

Reina 10-05-2004 06:53 PM

This must be a joke. I just don't see why they are going to get a divorce. I totally hope they can work somehting out. Alexandra belongs in her position. Just think-after the divorce she won't be at official meetings and stuff. So sad... :(

krone1 10-05-2004 07:24 PM

Hi
Yes I also think Mary looked quite bad in that outfit. Is that really the same jacket as the engagement???????

Alexandria 10-05-2004 08:06 PM

About Mary's outfit: The jacket is wonderful and the darker dress underneath it wasn't so bad. Although I wonder why she didn't wear that pretty light pink/beige dress she wore at the engagement press conference with the jacket; that was a much better dress than the dark one from today. The shoes (also from the engagement) were the second best part of her outfit aside from the jacket. The hat however, was horrendous. And what was with the bow or tie thing at the side?!

Benedikte looked really great however.

As for Alexandra and Joachim: From the few pictures I saw of the couple interacting during the opening, if I didn't know better I couldn't tell at all that they were divorcing. They seemed perfectly normal and natural together, talking and interacting. It is obviously not an acrimonious seperation.

And it is just me or did everyone seem incredibly bored with the opening of parliament? The Dutch royals didn't seem all that happy to be at their opening of parliament either.

Cissan 10-06-2004 03:08 AM

Oooh, I hope she's pregnant!!! :D That would be so exciting! But then I would feel a bit sorry for them. It's so wonderful to be newlyweds and not have a care in the world so if I was them I would wait before I started having children.

NJRedDevils 10-06-2004 03:33 AM

maybe she is feeling unwell, maybe a cold or morning sickness either way she looked lovely and J & A seem like they never seperated, i really hope they get back together and they fix there problems...

Cissan 10-06-2004 04:37 AM

I hope J & A will get back together as well. However, if there was the slightest chance that they might have solved their problems, I don't think the court would have announced the separation. I'm afraid they have reached the point of no return. When I see the pictures of them I see relief. They have announced their separation and the people didn't take it too bad. They still have a good relationship and are able to be good parents to their boys and that's wonderful! But I don't think that they will get back together.

Exactly. Moreover, I hope she gets comfortable in her role before having children. It can be quite daunting otherwise.

julial 10-06-2004 07:41 AM

Joachim smiling to Alex-why divorce? Are they good friends or something now? wow-they are amazingly civilized. Does Alex have a new love already or something?

Isabel 10-06-2004 09:23 AM

Alex and Joachim definitley get my vote for one the most civil couples in the process of a divorce. The only public individuals that I can think of that handled a divorce so well regardless of what the media said were Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew. I don't know if A&J are simply playing for the cameras-I guess that there could be a little of it, but they seem so happy and carefree, Alex especially. If they can handle themselves in front of the cameras so wonderfully, I have to wonder why they couldn't work things out behind closed doors. It is so strange, because there is clearly some camaraderie that remains.

Concerning Mary's attire....I did like the suit and its jacket and shoes, etc. The outfit is from her engagement and I liked it then and still do now. My only dislike would be for the hat. It was a nice a hat and did match the texture and color of the outfit. I do think, however, that it would have been suited someone else better. It simply didn't do Mary any justice.

Britters 10-06-2004 11:55 AM

I think my biggest problem with that hat was that it had to be worn with her hair tucked behind her ears and restrained and so it made her hair looks so...plain or normal...that and the large bow sprouting from the side...maybe with out the bow it would have looked MUCH better. I liked the rest of the outfit though.

Maybe Mary was just a little nervous because it was her first parliment opening and she was unsure of how to act or what to expect as it's slightly different from the apperances and duties she's been attending to since joining the family. It's a bit more serious and subdued, ya know? So maybe she isn't sick, just nervous...I know I would be! At any rate she definitely looked a bit off...

What wonderful pictures! I have a few pictures but I think they're only duplicates of what's here :)

I did notice that Mary's outfit looked vaguely familiar and now I know where I saw them :). I hope that in the near future she would try to dress in brighter colors. She's so pretty and brown just really doesn't do anything for her.

I agree, Alexandria, about Joachim and Alexandra. They don't seem like a couple divorcing. Sometimes their body language betrays them, however, as I have noticed sometimes when they stand together, they don't stand too close to each other. Anyway, I hope they reconcile. They seemed so happy :(

GrandDuchess 10-06-2004 05:22 PM

Thanks for all the great pictures everyone! I think Princess Alexandra looked really dashing in her light creation! Crown Princess Mary was elegant, but that hat should be removed... :D The bouquet she got made a really colourfull and great compliment to the jacket... Nice to see Princess Benedikte too out and about, good outfit for her too!

lucys 10-07-2004 08:11 PM

I'm surprised. Mary wore something not a one poster liked.

I think it's great when Royal women repeat clothing, but there are certain things that should never be worn twice. That beautiful coat was one of them. And then to make it worse. It wasn't even close to the lovely outfit she wore on her engagement day--to this day my favorite Mary outfit. Now she's gone and ruined the memory with that terrible hat and a dress too long for the coat. Such a shame.

Iain 10-13-2004 07:33 AM

Why did the Queen sit in the balcony. Doesn't she give a "speech from the throne" as is done in some other countries?

Hard to believe, but I have actually encountered a number of posters who liked the oufit (hat and all! - but we're understandably a bit pro-Mary at the CP Mary MB...lol).

But I think it would have been hard to look elegant when you've got gallstones (which is apparently as painful as when you're giving birth! omg how horrific). Though of course we only found out that she needed to be operated on on Monday. Which just goes to show that we shouldn't be so quick to judge. Sometimes, things aren't what they seem.....

But back to Joachim and Alex!!! I agree with Cissan - Joachim and Alexndra are both mature, and responsible people. They know that this separation will have huge consequences not only for them and for the DRF, but for their children as well. I don't think they made the decision rashly nor lightly. Its unbelievable how open Denmark is about things which I would have considered private - but if Alex's new house was bought about 18 (?) months ago (by a company set up or related to the queen or something), then I think the decision to separate was made a long long time ago.

I too can see the relief, especially in Joachim. Alexandra looks as elegant as always, but Joachim used to look a little bit aloof, but he doesn't look it as much in the recent pictures I've seen of him. I'm sure they're both still suffering, but at the same time, I think they've thought this through.

Its so lovely and quite a relief to see that they are very civilised about this! Lots of love to Felix (my favourite little prince!) and Nikolai!

MoonlightRhapsody 10-13-2004 07:12 PM

Mary looked fine and she had a great outfit on, however she just didn't look as vibrant in it as she was when she first wore it at the engagement announcement. It might be the gallstones that had her in pain and she was feeling under the weather. But I agree, that hat had to go, but the rest of the outfit was good.

Noelle9982 10-13-2004 07:27 PM

Hi everyone!
I'm brand new to this website although I've been viewing it without being a member for a while.
I just wanted to say that Mary is my absolute FAVORITE and I think she couldn't be more elegant and sophisticated. Imagine being thrust into the spotlight as she's been with millions of people just like us critiquing every move she makes. All of us have those days where we wake up miserable and want to crawl back under the covers but she doesn't have that luxury anymore. No one is going to like everything she wears or does or says but I think she's doing a pretty good job thus far.

Josefine 12-01-2004 03:37 PM

No Queen Margrethe do not give a speeche from the throne becaus she and the rest of the royal family may not express ther political opinion. Therefore the queen and the royal family can´t place ther vote when ther is a election to the Danish Parliament.

Thanks for that. In countries where the monarch does give a speech from throne it is the government who writes the speech so it is not their own opinion that they are giving.

I don´t think that it´s tru because she has given birth to both Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix and they are 3. and 4. in line to the crown,so in that way she will still be in the family. She migth not be married to Prince Joachim BUT her blood is running in the veins of Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix.

Princejohnny25 10-04-2005 05:29 PM

Her blood may be running through her kids vains but that is commoner blood and does not affect her at all.

I think what Sara meant that Alexandra officially is not a member of royal family anymore then she will not continue to join "official " royal tradition in parliament opening ceremony, but yes of course she still remains part of the family because of her children then she might still invited for a less formal event of the family:) .

I don't understand why somebody still bring up a commoner blood issue to nowaday royal... in present DRF it self I think only the queen and her siblings has "pure" royal blood. Frederick and Joachim don't considered as having the same kind of what their mother has since prince Henrik doesn't come from a royal family background (just aristocracy family).
Frederick’s wife also has a commoner background and then the future Cp or Cps will have 3/4 commoner blood. I don't think that is a big issue anymore.

Btw, I belief that nothing can break any blood relationship, then Alexandra will still remain their family, the same thing will be happened if Mary' and Frederick have to face a divorcing situation, Mary will remain a family specialy because of her child.

There's no such thing as commoner blood, or royal blood for that matter. We are all the same, after all, royalty all started out as "commoners."

Its so sad that Mary was not there, so the outfits of Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte also not really special, i think Queen Margrethe is down to earth and such a great person but her outfit at the Opening of The Parliarment this year was really normal nothing such special, Princess Benedikte's outift was alright, i like the colour but not the hat.

RachelD 10-03-2006 06:02 PM

O.k. now why did Mary bow to them? I know it's the Queen and her consort (Prince Henrick is consort or not?) but they are her in-laws and she's Crown Princess....I thought she was also going to bow to Princess Benedikte and Joachim! Thanks for the video Linda Hsu!

MoonlightRhapsody 10-03-2006 06:56 PM

I think that no matter if she's Crown Princess, the Queen and Prince Henrik outrank her and therefore by protocol, she has to curtsey. Although Mary's the most junior of the bunch, she still is more senior than Benedikte and Joachim now, I think. She doesn't curtsey to them, although before, while she and Fred were still engaged, she had to.

I agree, it isn't really the style or the material as it is the fit. The jackets are never buttoned at the bottom, thus showing his tie and the sleeve length and pant length and tapering is off.

To me, it seems as if they were making fun of her (of course, they are not, but it seems that way). Why do they have to laugh like that? It seems, even to them, so ridiculous to do that in this time and age. She looks odd. The whole thing looks odd. Just an opinion.

I'm not sure about the Opening of the Danish Parliament, but if anyone can explain does Queen Margrethe II actually gives out the Speech like Queen Elizabeth II, King Harald V, King Carl XVI Gustav or Queen Beatrix?Because it seems that Queen Margrethe sits together with her husband, sons, daughter-in-law and sister not on the throne to deliver the speech like others?

The danish Queen does not speak at the opening of parliament. As the official (not political) head of state she and her family are just present to show their approval of the Folketing (parliament). In Denmark the regent has no political power but it's still her who have to sign the laws before they are valid. She is a symbolic figure. That's the same with the opening of parliament - she has nothing to say but she has to be there to make the opening valid. That's why she sits on a balcony far from the political discussions on the floor...

I would seriously love to take him shopping and give him advice on wearing suits. Maybe he is a stubborn person and doesn't take advice very well.

Loving Mary's coat!! It's gorgeous
The Queen looks great as well :flowers: Hope she's recovering well from her surgery

A HELLO! magazine article:

MARY AND VICTORIA STYLISH AT PARLIAMENT OPENINGS
Two of Europe's most popular princesses were fulfilling one of their more formal duties on Tuesday as they attended the openings of parliament for their respective countries. And, true to form, Mary of Denmark and Victoria of Sweden added their own inimitable sense of style to the proceedings.

Madde, your pics are amazing, as always!

Or could it perhaps be because every tailor and fashion minded person would tell you that you are never suposed to do up the bottom button on your jacket when wearing a suit? :ermm: Just a thought....

well my opinion after I saw the video is that the Queen almoust ignore Princes Mary, she wanted to kiss her twice but it seams that she didn't want that to happen. Princess Mary is beautiful as always! Very stylish

Opening of Parliament - October 2nd, 2007

The Danish Opening of Parliament will occur on October 2nd :flowers:

HM the Queen, HRH the Prince Consort, HRH the Crown Prince, HRH the Crown Princess, HRH Prince Joachim and HRH Princess Benedikte are the usual participants of this events.

There is no calender entry on kongehuset.dk about the event, but from the Crown Prince Couple's website:
"Folketingets åbning
Tirsdag 2. oktober 2007 kl. 12:00
Kronprinsparret overværer Folketingets åbningsmøde i Folketingssalen, Christiansborg"

JessRulz 10-02-2007 06:02 AM

Mary is wearing a lightish colour, looks like a light brown maybe?
Benedikte is wearing a sort-of pillbox hat-ish type hat with the tulleish stuff on it

ladybelline 10-02-2007 06:04 AM

I saw a grey-ish outfit for Mary..but my connection is not a good quality!
And Benedikte's hat is definitely ...interesting!
Edit: you are right, JessRulz, it's light brown!

You're right, Mary's outfit is more grey-ish than brown-ish. See this picture from Polfoto

it must depend on the lights!!!

Yep, many parliamentary members I've seen look as if they're thinking, "one sheep; two sheep; three sheep; zzzzzz":biggrin:

ETA: Picture of Mary, Frederik, Joachim, Benedikte & Margrethe looking quite bored
Another picture of Mary & Frederik

(Polfoto)

UserDane 10-02-2007 06:54 AM

LOL - this type of pictures are taken every year on the opening of Parliament

...and no announcement of an engagement between Joachim and Marie Cavallier - as some of the Danish tabloids had speculated about. Even the commentator for DR1 said 'So, no engagement announcement'....

biboquinhas 10-02-2007 07:09 AM

It must be a quite boring act, I understand very well their faces!!!
I would be surprise with an announcement so early, Joaquim has left a broken marriage just a few years ago so I think he must wait for a new commitment and be sure that Marie is the one and they are not dating for so long!!!!

Good Heavens, I had not realised how much like her late mother Princess Benedikte is.

I was wondering, why doesn´t Prince Richard come along with his wife? She usually attends this event alone?

I think it is because this event is for the Danish Royal Family, Richard isn't officially apart of the DRF although he is married to Benedikte. A Danish member will probably be 100% sure in their answer though

I am not 100% sure why - but didn't prince Richard once say in an interview that he prefers to stay at home and look after his business instead? Prince Richard appears friendly and likeable - but not overly keen on all that 'royal business'

dazzling 10-02-2007 09:02 AM

Thanks for the pictures, All royals looked lovely today. Why is QM dressed in dark colors, id hope to see her in something abit more brighter, but beautiful suit. I loved Mary's outfit, if not mistaken, its recycled a few times. I loved her hat.
