I totally agree that she is more substance than fluff. She is by far my favorite princess, and for that reason. But what makes a princess a princess, and not just another substantial, multi-lingual, well-intentioned person doing charity work, is her presence, and clothes are important to some degree. They are not everything, but they are important, at least to me. They are what makes it fun to look at the pictures, I guess.

ricarda 04-26-2006 04:54 AM

I guess all that intensive holidaying with Martin must be exhausting.
No wonder she looks tired.
11 working days in 3 and a half month!

I wonder now that she is not a member of The Royal Family anymore if she is not getting as many request to attend functions,as she once did.Thats why she has so much time for holidays.

i guess the princess is never right  !! if she does too much work like overseas trip then she would be accused of abandoning her sons, and if she does less work then she would be accused of being lazy.

I'm still glad we can see Alexandra from time to time, and i don't think she's being lazy. We still see her having around the same amount of engagements as do Joachim or Frederik, maybe more.

However, as her sons grows older, i would like to see her getting more involve in the causes she belief in, like children & unicef. Perhaps taking a part-time work on it, and making more Unicef Visits all around the world.
We all know she has that charm of making everyone smiles & feel comfortable... ;)

Yes, that is indeed a possibility. However, I don't know if tht is the case, especially as she still retains the patronages she had before the divorce, and non of the other members of the DRF are appearing for those charities. I can't imagine those charities turning around and saying "oh, we desperately need to get our message out there, and even though you're still popular, we won't ask you because you're now divorced".

Maybe its just her downtime right now. Would love to see her resume the same hectic pace though (local appearances preferred, that way she can't be accused of leaving the boys behind).

I have never seen Alexandra being accused of abandoning her sons or being lazy.
Quite on the contrary, unlike "lazy" Joachim and Frederik
(who according to Ekstrabladet both had more official engagements than Alexandra)
she has the reputation of being the "busiest" member of the DRF.
Hectic pace. All substance, no fluff.

And I think this reputation is undeserved.:D

Quote:

Please, don't generalize.;)
I met her and Joachim once and she did not make me smile.
My impression was: That woman loves being a princess but does not care at all for the man at her side.
And this was in 1998!

I also don't think she made Joachim feel comfortable.
But then perhaps he did not make her feel comfortable too.

I have just read that special page about Princess Alexandra of Denmark at the hello magazine website. And I would say that I agree with it..

She deserves all the good things in her life right now!

Eliza 05-02-2006 04:31 AM

I too hve just read the special report in Hello Magazine on Pss Alexandra....and totally agree with it! The pictures are lovely and she's a wonderful asset to the Danish Royal Family. She's held herself well during the divorce and after.

Did Extrabladet mention about in what period of the official engagement they refer to?
Could you post the links please....
----

Does anybody know (from credibility source of course) how many official engagements Alexandra have done during her princess life up until now?, and how many Joachim and Frederick (and other DRF members) have done in the same period?
Then I will agree or disagree about she deserved to get reputation as the busiest member of DRF;).

April 26, 2006: Princess Alexandra attended the finals of 'The Public-Speaking Competition for Schools' at the residence of the ambassador of Australia at Her Highness the patron of The English-Speaking Union. (Translated by Lasse Pedersen)

I must say the red really suits her. She looks refreshing in that dress. I am pretty sure this is the first time she has worn this suit.

bigheadshirmp 05-04-2006 02:36 AM

she looks gorgeous in red!!!! and finally something that's colorful!!!

crisiñaki 05-04-2006 04:12 AM

I really like Alexandra, she didn't do the Fergie thing and left the country and her charities and responsabilities behind; she chose to continue serving the RF and the people of Denmark and I admire her for that:)

blyton 05-04-2006 06:01 AM

Princess Alexandra looks really nice in the red outfit! I wish we saw a bit for of her.

I was referring to the article that was posted by Larzen in the "Danish Royal Family Current Events" thread.
https://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...-a-9448-4.html

They counted from the beginning of 2006 to Easter/mid-April.

I do not know how many functions she attended since she became princess.
But I am watching the DRF's calendar since it is online.
And my impression is: she does her bit, but it's not as much as to justify adjectives like "busiest" or "hardworking".
And she is definitely not the busiest member of the family.
Her activities were/are just better covered by the press than those of the other members.

grevinnan 05-04-2006 08:58 AM

P. Alexandra is a real asset for the royal house.

acutally...if you are familiar with Princess Alexandra's activities, you should know that she's usually busy during the summer months and during the Winter times
During the winter months, she will travel to certain places around the world with UNICEF and the Girls Radio Choir (that's every single year), and she also might travel to China to promote Danish industry.

In 2003, she traveled to Thialand with UNICEF (february)

In 2004, she travelled to Washintong, D.C., to meet Laura Bush (January)
- also in New York for UNICEF (January)
- March in Bosnia for UNICEF
- July in China with the DR radio girls choir
- November in Bangladesh and India for UNICEF

In 2005, she 's in New York for UNICEF in january
- March in Russia
- April went to Shanghai China to promote Danish Industry and somthing about HCAnderson
- August in London with the DR radio girl's choir
- Oct- Nov went to Sri Lanka with UNICEF
- November in Russia with the DR radio girl's choir
- November in South Aftrica
- November in China

and these are just something about Princess Alexandra travelling around the world with different organizations that's she's a patron of. Don't forget that she's a partron of 21 (or 24 can't remember) organizations in Denmark!

paulette 05-05-2006 03:17 AM

I think the words "sincere and dedicated" are the adjectives that best describes the well-loved Princess Alexandra of Denmark.

There are some people who might agree or disagree to opinions that she is the busiest member of the Danish Royal Family. Of course, we could not really attest that for sure she is the busiest because each member of the family has different tasks depending on their role and capacity as a royal. Moreover, the more roles you have then the more tasks you have. Usually, the royal calendar shows to us that the schedule of Princess Alex are focused in her capacity as a patron / member of some groups and organizations. She couldn't be as busy as other royals because her tasks are usually limited to what she is called to do and perform.

In Princess Alex's case, she is not only a patron of more than two dozen charities but she is also a mother to two sons, a working royal, a citizen of Denmark and most of all a member of the royal family. And for sure, all of us would agree that she is one unique, dedicated and sincere person.

I don't speak Danish, but the first sentence seems to be saying that Alexandra has 'many talents, one is shopping'.
Must be a slow news day in DK..

Hi Zarat,
It's a gossip article and it is indeed about Alexandra's shopping habits. According to BT (a tabloid newspaper) the recently published accounts for 2005 shows that Alexandra spent DKK 5,000 per day on pure consumption; that this appears from the VAT accounts since royal are allowed a refund on the value added tax on all their purchases (we pay 25% VAT on everything we buy) and from these receipts which the royal have to produce to get the refund it appears that there are no expenses for her expensive villa in Hellerup or her car. But - according to BT - she loves expensive clothes, travels to exotic destinations - also with her 27 year old* boyfriend Martin Jørgensen - and that she has spent a lot of money on purchases of designer furniture and other luxury items for her new palatial villa just north of Copenhagen.

(* I just love the way the age difference has to be mentioned each and every time! Had it been the other way around, it would of course just be romantic - perhaps even natural??  - such hypocrisy)

zarat 05-19-2006 03:12 AM

Thank you very much UserDane for this info!

I really admire Princess Alexandra, she's my favorite royal and that's why I wanted to understand what the article was talking about.
Hm, even if she is a bit wasteful I will be still marvelled at her feeling for fashion. The royals are people who should be a bit beyond us (but it does mean that they are better) and make us dream -thats' my opinion.

UserDane, I love the way you pointed out BT's emphasis on their ages! It's true, every article makes a point of saying their ages. And in case the reader hasn't gotten the point, they sometimes make the calculation for the reader, along the lines of "Alexandra and her 14-years- younger boyfriend..."

She still needs to keep a good home for her 2 sons - who are after all Princes of Denmark - what do people expect her to do shop for furniture at Ikea?

Also , expensive clothes and visits to exotic locations -those descriptions can also be used to describe mary and Frederick.

Zonk 06-01-2006 06:32 PM

If she truly spent all that money on shopping, she must be hiding them. She recycles a lot (which is a good thing). The tabloid press is something aren't they!

RachelD 06-01-2006 06:43 PM

Hi everyone,

I don't think it's a bad idea to recycle clothes...especially clothes that are that nice and expensive. And if your clothes become you so well, why wouldn't you want to wear them for a long time? :)

paulette 06-03-2006 02:15 AM

We could not really rely on gossip magazines and tabloids to give us the real figure that could prove that Princess Alexandra's shopping habits are way too much already. I think what they are stating are rubbish.

I think it is quite impossible for her to spend a little amount of money when to think she has two sons who are growing every minute of the day. And most of all, she has a very important work to do which is related to her position as part of the royal family.

The Crown Princely couple even spends a big amount of money on various reasons when in fact they still have one son. How much more with Princess Alex who has Nikolai and Felix?

alola 06-03-2006 06:42 PM

I dont agree to the B.T
She recycles, her clothes, a lot
I like her I think she is very elegant

Don't you think that Joachim also pays for Nikolai and Felix? I wouldn't be surprised at all if Joachim took on half of the financial responsibility when it come to raising his sons. It would be expecting too much (and giving too much credit) to think that Alexandra pays for all of her sons' needs.

However, I too don't think that Alexandra spent most of her money on clothes, coz as we can see, she recycles. She has just moved into a new house, so I think she spent most of the money on furnitures and on travel.

But who knows what she spent it on. Its all conjecture for us. Like the Australian newspapers - they just divided Mary and Frederik's personal expenses by the 365 (days in a year) and claimed that that amount was what Mary spent on herself!!! And some simple people believed the newspaper claiming this! Absolutely crappy reporting.

This is a really lovely picture!
A butterfly on Alexandra's shoulder seems to have made her laugh.

Besides that, too much beige.
It seems the Danish princesses prefer to wear very dark colours when it's cold
and very bland colours when it's summerly.

Thanks for the pictures of Alex in the "Rainforest"! She looks like she's having a great time and her outfit (with exception of the hat) is fantastic.

Well acording to som newspapers like: seoghør,kigind,tv2 and bt Martin has been moving his things from Princess Alexandras house last friday,BUT i don´t know if it tru...I have my doubts about seoghør and kigind as a reliable media her in Denmark.

If they don´t live together then that is that....If they do live together well then that is that :o

Young men (or women) found on the re-bound seldom remain for long.

galuhcandrakirana 06-14-2006 10:16 AM

Well, if it is true that they've broke up....then may be this is the answer (for me) of why Alex looked sad in some of her event pictures.

Adry 06-14-2006 10:25 AM

Alexandra is a good woman, if everything ended wuth Martin..Im pretty sure she will find a better man for her...she deserves it :)

I think Princess Alexandra can do better anyway, maybe another European prince? Actually, the manager of the rain forest is a very nice looking man and they look good together. I wonder if he is available?

Yeuch... her eyes are gorgeous. Why must women always cut themselves up? Take her for what she is - a very beautiful, well preserved lady, for her age.

Lasse Pedersen 06-14-2006 01:54 PM

According to TV2, whose source is the Danish tabloid Kig Ind, Mr. Martin Jørgensen, Princess Alexandra's gentleman friend, has moved out of Her Highness' house on Svanemøllevej. It is thus believed that the relationship has definitively ended. How much (or probably little) the tabloid actually knows for sure, I do not know.

Is it definitely confirmed that he lived in her house to begin with? Part of me wondered if it was even true. Maybe he just visited. I'm not a prude, but she has children and they live with her. She had no way of knowing how long the relationship would last. She has a private life now, but letting him live in her house just doesn't seem consistent with the Princess Alexandra we see on her official rounds.

qui mal y pense 06-14-2006 03:46 PM

It is great to see Alexandra in something other than a suit! Those new outfits are so up to date and fun. It is also great to see her doing official functions.

I vote for the guy at the Odense zoo who showed her around! Was that flirting or what? Check out the body language, too. ;)

Anyway, here's what I really think: Alexandra doesn't have to have a man waiting for her to be happy, now does she? As long as she has a ton of interesting projects to work on, her boys, as well as a loyal network of discreet friends, she'll be just fine.
That said, good for her if she can find a new man who is good to her.

Yes, he is good looking. There seem to be a lot of good-looking men in Denmark.

There is an information in Hola! That Alexandra and Princes Joachim attend together to the Circus and rumors about their getting together again!!!!!!!

I love her skirts at the Randers Rainforest event and the Odense Zoo! But I don't think the formal hats go well with the informal knit tops. But I do like the overall looks: they make her look younger I think, as well as being stylish and pretty, and show off her great figure!

galuhcandrakirana 06-20-2006 06:06 AM

Love Alexandra’s suntan skin https://img64.imageshack.us/my.php?image=45oj.jpg , https://img66.imageshack.us/my.php?image=51sl.jpg , https://img55.imageshack.us/my.php?image=009718765cx.jpg it looks a very healthy skin colour I think her suntan is just perfect (Oh well, may be its because I'm not fond with a pale skin colour or too much suntan colour).

Lakshmi 06-20-2006 06:16 AM

What's up with P Alexandra and Martin? Is their relatioship over? I heard that they lived together. Was it ever true?

galuhcandrakirana 06-23-2006 12:20 PM

I’ve noticed that Alexandra has more wrinkles than before, I didn’t find it much in her early post divorce and just like many posters I had noticed that Alex looks brighter and younger in that time (take a look back on this thread https://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f33/princess-alexandra-current-events-part-7-a-8431-2.html) , but it seems turned differently…in recent events I found her look tired, sometime with a bit sad face (I hope it just me) even though she still shows her big smile to people . That wrinkles make me wonder if she has faced some other big problems in her life:( (I’ve read a book which says that wrinkle can be caused by depressed situation). One of her recent picture https://img503.imageshack.us/my.php?image=009718758ro.jpg (very visible specially on her neck part), compare to early post divorced picture

The lady is over 40. Wrinkles happen; they add character. She has a beautiful slim figure.

royaltywatcher 06-24-2006 11:04 PM

My sister told me once that people age in a step function, in other words, they look the same for five years or so, and then all at once, they look five years older. I think Princess Alexandra just aged a step, and she seems to be in the sun more lately, and there has to be an incredible amount of stress in getting divorced, losing the royal part of her title, and being replaced in her role as the interesting young woman in the royal family by Princess Mary. The whole thing is really just awful. If getting a divorce is one of the greatest stresses you can experience, imagine doing it in front of everyone.

Yes I think its the hardest part for her is, also about new rumours that she broke up with her boyfriend, again it become public media topic:rolleyes: :o. I'm not sure about she feels stress because of being replace by a new figure of family member since she knew that her brother inlaw would have wife and as a future queen she'll have more role than her. Hope she will find a better life in future, she is a bright and tallented woman/princess she deserve to have it.

paulette 07-01-2006 02:48 AM

I was really thrilled to learn that the princess and I were born on the same month. But mine is a day earlier than hers. And of course, she is older than me. [ =) ]

I wish her good health as the years will pass by. And most of all, happiness and success in everything she does. She is such a dedicated and beautiful person.

I think she could celebrate but in a private way..probably with her sons..remember that since she got divorce from Prince Joachim, her birthay is not celebrated anymore and the danish flag is not hoist that day either.

royaltywatcher 07-05-2006 11:38 PM

42 already? Wow, I remember 40 but it seems like she skipped 41. Time goes by so fast.

royaltywatcher 07-17-2006 11:40 PM

Where is Princess Alexandra? It's been a month or so. It seems she is gradually withdrawing from royal duties, and I suppose that we all knew it would happen, but I really miss seeing her.

norwegianne 07-18-2006 03:05 AM

It's holiday month in Denmark, at the moment - so there aren't many public engagements at all.

elle 07-18-2006 11:05 PM

wondering when will we be able to see princess alexandra again. . . kinda missed her :o

paulette 07-22-2006 05:52 AM

same with me too. I will be very happy to see new pictures of her.
I think she is enjoying the summer season now with her kids somewhere outside denmark or in denmark now.

blyton 07-22-2006 10:39 AM

I wonder what she is doing and where she is,we hav'nt heard any news for a while.

New Article

Found the following article on Se og Hor magazine today. It is about Princess Alexandra and her boyfriend Martin Jorgensen. Can someone please translate?

Men ...
For der er et stort og meget betydningsfuldt men!
Prinsessen kommer til at
betale en høj pris, hvis hun gifter sig. Hun mister en mængde rettigheder, der kun er kongehusets medlemmer forundt.

Here is a quick translation of the article:

Martin Jørgensen: Has propsed to Alex.
Princess Alexandra has said yes, but with strings attached. It costs her much, if the two of them decides to marry. Therefore he most likely must live with the dream of becoming her lawful husband.

The love between Princess Alexandra and Martin Jørgensen is strong. And Martin is so much in love and is sure to have found the woman in his life, that he has proposed to the Princess. According to Se og Hørs sources (my comment: not to reliable I guess) the 28-year-old Maritn is supposed to have some time ago – if not necessarily on his knee – asked Alexandra if she wanted to marry him. And Alex is supposed to have accepted. But... because it is a big and important but!
The Princess will pay a high price if she marries. She looses many rights that only are given to the members of the royal house. Read the whole story about the proposal in Se og Hør.

thanks for the translation, KikkiB!

What I wonder though about the content of the article, is the accuracy of it: one would assume that Martin is aware that if Alexandra remarries, she would lose her ample state income, if I at the time read the stories regarding her divorce settlement correctly.

in the case of her re-marriage, she'd lose, I believe, either that new title of hers OR/And that very cushy income for showing up to various events. Anyone know more about this?

This is why I think it's doubtful Alex will re-marry any time soon. I like her a lot and she's one of my favorite royals, but I also do detect a woman who doesn't want to downgrade when it comes to disposable income, which equals life style (who would?). that's why I think she'd not remarry, unless her fiance would be independently wealthy. And Martin isn't. Also, didn't reports have him move out of Alex's house and break up with her?

MoonlightRhapsody 07-27-2006 12:22 AM

From what I can remember, for sure her title of 'Her Highness' will be downgraded to 'Her Excellency' after remarriage to anyone else. However, I don't think she'll lose her state-supported income; I think the terms is she's on the civil list for the rest of her life. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
