Rojalistisk yra mötte kungafamiljen på statsbesök i Finland

HELSINGFORS.
I eftermiddag fortsätter statsbesöket.

Apparently there were about a thousand Finns welcoming the Swedish royals when they came to the harbour. After visiting the President's Castle (a direct translation so it doesn't really make any sense  ) the King visited the Hietaniemi graveyard and this evening they will have a dinner with Finland's president in the "castle".

Princess Victoria visited a photo exhibition of young Finnish and Swedish photographers. In those photos Josefine posted she is taking a photo which will be later used by actual newspapers. According to the Swedish royal court it is the first-ever photo that Victoria has taken for the press

On Wednesday the royals will visit Hamina and Porvoo and on Thursday Jyväskylä.

There's some sort of news video on this site of their visit to Helsinki, click on "Ruotsin kuningasperhe vierailee Suomessa".

Galamiddag
Cirka 160 personer hade bjudits in till middagen.

Kirjailijatalossa isäntänä on talossa asuva kirjailija Christer Kihlman.

Illalla kuningaspari tarjoaa juhlapäivällisen Helsingissä.

I'm a little late on this one!

From Hello!

A 63-gun salute welcomed Crown Princess Victoria and her parents, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, as the Swedish royals arrived at the port of Helsinki on Tuesday, kicking off an offical tour of Finland.

A morning reception, hosted by President Tarja Halonen and her husband, Dr Pentti Arajarvi, at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki was one of the first stops for the royal family, who plan to be in Finland until Thursday.

Later, Crown Princess Victoria, who wore a pink suit for the festivities, swapped the formal hat she wore to the reception for a pair of glasses as she visited an academic book store in the city. The 25-year-old future queen had a packed agenda for the first day of her tour, spending the early afternoon inaugurating a photography exhibition and in the evening attending a dinner in her family's honour, once again as guests of the first couple.

King Carl Gustaf, his wife and eldest daughter are scheduled to visit Hamina, Porvoo and Jyvaskyla in the coming days.

we got to see one new dress for victoria.

are there any finns here that can tell us what was reported about the state visit in the media.... or if they was there in person.....

Lena 08-28-2003 07:09 AM

Honestly this time I´vent noticed that it is an old dress until somebody on the glittering royals message board wrote it
It looks different on her now, it seems as if she has slimmed since then (Märtha Louises wedding?) a lot.

Mia 08-28-2003 08:06 AM

What more can we Finns add to the newspaper articles? I think that Crown Princess Victoria had the greatest success here in Finland.

I think that the Swedish royal family is doing marvellous job for the Swedish image. They are popular here in Finland too, though we Finns want to compete with the Swedes in sports and business.

I was at the Sanoma publishing house the 26th and saw a glimpse of the Crown Princess Victoria when she opened the photo exhibition. She looked great in her pale pink dress, which we've seen already at the wedding in Belgium (the papers actually wrote of this and added in a very positive way that 'she is not afraid to use her outfits several times').

She looked very fit, slimmer and prettier (if that's possible) than in the pictures. And, boy, does she have a warm smile. The crown princess was guided by the different photographers of the exhibition and she seemed to have a lot of comments and discussion with the artists. She looked genuinly interested.

Josefine 08-28-2003 08:10 AM

hi Mia thank you for your report

is daniel a topic in finland....

Mia 08-28-2003 08:45 AM

Not that much... I don't know was it already told on this board that the press tried to ask something of Daniel and Princess Victoria had smiled and said that she could have guessed that someone would bring that up.

They also asked when the engagement is announced and she had replied something like "I know of this just as much as you do". She is very enigmatic. Or clever enough not to talk of her private life.

Cissan 08-28-2003 09:40 AM

About the blue dress

I don't think that the blue dress is a new one. But I think that she has altered the back of it. I think that she wore it to some occasion in Denmark (Queen Margerete celebrated her 60:th birthday perhaps?). I remember it because the first day Madeleine wore a blue dress and Victoria a red one and the second day Victoria wore this dress and Madeleine a red one. Do you remeber this too? But I don't think that the back of the dress was so revealing then.

I found a link to a picture of Victoria in the dress. I'm pretty sure it's the same dress!

I don't know about it being altered, but Victoria definitely wore the same blue dress to Queen Margrethe's 60th birthday celebrations.

It must be the same dress! That was the first thing I thought when I saw the picture, before I saw your comments about it. I think that she had to alter it because of her now slimmed down body ( look at her bosom and compare it to the older picture!) and then she/ the dressmaker decided to make the dress a bit more interesting with that back.

I really like the way she wears the Baden Fringe tiara but the necklace is too elaborated for her- it looks better on her mum, V. needs the strict, sober lines ( or is that just my personal taste?) :)

Sorry Josefine, I don´t think that it is the same dress. The dress you just posted is green, not blue. take a look at the orderband (don´t know the name for it...) it is green and the dress is in the same colour, and I think I have seen this dress in pictures before, but they are very simular. maybe they got the idea to change the back on the blue dress from this one.

what years has there been state visit between sweden and finland

Boris 07-07-2007 02:29 PM

Josefine, during the King's reign there has been an amazing number of state visits to and from Finland which should set a record. State visits to Finland:
# 1 in 1974, The King only of course, as he was not yet married;
# 2 in 1996, The King & Queen & CP Victoria
# 3 in 2003, The King & Queen & CP Victoria.
There were also even more return state visits from Finland to Sweden: In 1975, 1982, 1994, and in 2000.
